BTFC LION
I hope altering the start time because of the football was worth it. Unfortunately my other half didn't make it because the traffic was horrendous so he had to turn back and miss the speedway tonight for the first time this season. Would be interesting to know if any Lions fans on here went to the football match in view of the promotion's keeness to make sure they could attend both matches? I didnt go to the footy, but there were many at the meeting tonight who were wearing city shirts, so I guess there were a good amount who went to both. Have to say the crowd did look good tonight, just a shame the team could not perform and encourage them back for the next meeting.
Shadders
I'm always impressed by the friendly welcome from the staff at Leicester Speedway. Even one of the stewards remembered me from last year as we were leaving the stadium. Looks like new people running the food wagon behind the home straight stand, Turkish guys I'm guessing. Very efficient and polite. Nice jacket spud with beans , a welcome change from the usual greasy stuff you find at most tracks.

Glad you enjoyed your visit Shadders and a good result for you as well.
wandersome
Crowd looked pretty good tonight. Unfortunately they had to put up with a fairly inept gating display from the Lions on a track that absolutely needed gating on. They also had to put up with inexorable delays brought on by the sun, watering, grading, riders having two rides in a row, crashes and probably a couple of reasons i cant remember. Couldn't hang about for the final heat as i was already over half an hour late in meeting a friend down the pub but for the first time ever it didn't bother me as i'd watched one pass in fourteen heats and i'd ran out of speedway conversation having moaned the life out of the delays by heat 7. And as much as i like talking about how Kevin Doolan and James Sargeant nearly overtook someone nearly is not a pass is it.. Â To sum up the issues we had a 15 minute sun off. We had a rider sent out to check sun wasn't a problem about 5 minutes after the sun had completely disappeared from the track. Then after he returned with his verdict we had a 10 minute break while the the track staff returned to their positions. It's just wrong. That is not the correct order for these things to happen!. I'm not mentioning the tractors then going out about 2 heats later.. sorry, i just did. Â I noticed someone on the leicester facebook site a couple of weeks ago having a go at someone for moaning about the entertainment at BP as it was old news in a smug 'that shows the detractors were wrong after all' way. Hey, someone should tell him it's back on the agenda. Hopeless night out. Â Well done to Rye House though. Nelson looked great and i'd say Aspgren was the best reserve to ride BP since Morris i'd guess. Sad that it didn't happen as a Lion. lionstigersnotbearsohmy
Whilst I was somewhat underwhelmed by the racing, well done to the Rockets and also James Sarjeant. There is so much to admire about Leicester but please sort the track out so that the riders can race. I know people are bored with the track debate but something needs to happen. Surely for the good of Leicester Speedway?

The saving grace of Leicester speedway are the gate staff and stadium staff. They are the best.  Was third promoter Dave Darcy at the stadium tonight. When i walked past the stand he wasn't in his usual position. Was Flagrag right last week about the fall out?
robert72
I must say nothing has changed since my last visit,Yes the staff are nice up there but i go for the racing, tonight was shocking again, sun break after a few races, the delays,i honestly think DH will never listen to the fans about the track and the sooner he clears off the better for the future of the sport in leicester. Â Been to Leicester 3 times in there first season but have stopped going. My main gripe about any track is that I want to see proper racing and some passing. The riders must feel the same. Â harsh comments about the current promoter because without him there would be no Leicester speedway but he must adapt
robert72
I don't think it's harsh about the promotor,he is happy to take people's money but not given them what they want and that's a racing track to watch speedway RACING. So many people are walking away from BP and not returning,I decided to give it another go and wished I hadn't done. 3 years on now since it reopened and still the same talking point, the track. So mr darcy has gone, who next?
Leicester Lion
Volty matched my views in his earlier post. Heat 15 was another win from the gate, this time by Doolan and Karlsson, who inexplicably pulled wheelies and celebrated as if they had won us the match. Clearly the fans care more about the team's performance than the riders do. Â So, another three points dropped at home, and our playoff hopes have followed the sun over the horizon and out of sight. It's going to be a miserable end to the season at BP, both on the track and income-wise. Â The promotion have learned nothing since the survey of last season. We still have ridiculous delays. We were promised that the changes to the track would improve the racing considerably, but they have not. The fall out from Hemsley's 'Hitler rant' continues to affect team morale. I fear for the future at BP.

justathought
Yep I fear for the future of the lions hope I am wrong but it's got to change  Never fear. There is a master plan in place. We are heading for the Elite League next season where Sky will give us loads of money.
Lord Skid
What a shame to see such a good setup ruined by the track, the riders hate it, the crowd hates it, just alter it before it's too late, to almost overtake is about as good as it gets, can't believe the crowd was as good as it was, as the entertainment was terrible.

Well it is true that the "track debate" is an old one, but unfortunately, still relivent. However, I dont seem to recall any reasonable suggestions on what needs to be done, only people saying something needs to be done. So what are the REAL possibilities open to the promoters - and please dont suggest starting again as clearly that would not be realistic. Big Al
I'm a bit puzzled about what goes on, when it comes to riders who are unfit being included in teams. Who decides, and how? I think that Edberg on Saturday was a fiasco, from all accounts. Surely, somebody ought to have known he was unfit - not just unfit but to the extent that he seemingly couldn't complete a lap - not just once but three times. Similarly with Nieminen, it has been clear for some weeks (even after having his brace fitted) that he's only capable of contributing a handful of points per match, so why have Leicester persisted in naming him in the team. I know all about the pitfalls of R/R and guests, but it has all seemed rather amateurish, and taking those 2 matches against Rye, Leicester could and perhaps should have had 5 points from them (and maybe 6), but actually achieved 1. It was interesting to see how Rye handled OIly Allen's situation: he gave it a go on Saturday, but both club and rider obviously came to the conclusion that he wasn't yet capable enpough, and promptly replaced him with Grajczonek at Leicester - whom i wouldn't be surprised was on standby in case Allen wasn't up to it. Look at the outcome. Contrast this with Leicester's approach with Nieminen. Would anyone from Leicester Speedway care to respond to this question, please? wandersome
. Â So what are the REAL possibilities open to the promoters - and please dont suggest starting again as clearly that would not be realistic. Â I don't think you've been on BSF because we've also done the the reasonable suggestions of what needs to be done. We've been making reasonable suggestions since april 2011 if i remember rightly, much to the annoyance of the 'Hitler youth' and some friends oop north. Most suggestions involve shortening the straights by a decent amount and the apexs as well but by a smaller amount (whichi would guess would also allow the track to be prepared differently). General consenus is the cost of this is between 3k for altering one end (which would do the same job) and 6k-7k for both (or if you listen to David Hemsley, 1 million including the resiting of the stands!). Finances would not appear to have been a problem as offers have been made to the promotion previously to cover this cost (not the mil mind) though i think we've moved on too far for some since this was mentioned. Instransigence unfortunately appears to be the main stumbling block. Â The other option would be buying Nick Morris though i'm not sure that would be cheaper and it also doesn't have the long term benefits! Â Mick. Lord Skid
Only way to cure the problem is to shorten the straights, not sure if it's feasible to do the pit bend one winter, then the other bend the following winter to spread the cost, the shape of the bends are great, if the straights are shorter.
