Now then, let's just get this straight - then I promise my hormones won't play up any more.

New Cross rode four challenge matches in 1959 as a non-league team. All the riders used guested and belonged to other teams. Peter Craven rode in three of the four matches for New Cross and in the other one for Belle Vue, his actual team. Incidentally, Bjorn Knutsson also rode for New Cross that year, maybe he should be in your fantasy team, NXR?

I shall now go away and lie down in a darkened room and return when the speedway season starts....

Can I have a fantasy world final?

1. Barry Briggs

2. Peter Craven

3. Ove Fundin

4. Erik Gundersen

5. Vic Huxley

6. Bjorn Knutsson

7. Ivan Mauger

8. Jack Milne

9. Ronnie Moore

10. Hans Nielsen

11. Ole Olsen

12. Jack Parker

13. Bruce Penhall

14. Tony Rickardsson

15. Bluey Wilkinson

16. Jack Young

I'll go for Jan O Pedersen and Anders Michanek (1974 final form) at reserve.

Mentions to Peter Collins, Vic Duggan (dominant over a couple of years after the war but I don't think enough evidence to put him in for me???) and Jason Crump (just to see if he could still come second in this lot?!?).

Anybody disagree???

Anybody disagree???

Yeah. On 1974 final form Anders Michanek would have probably beaten the lot of 'em.

How about Egon Muller on 1983 form? That would upset the applecart.

Vic Duggan (dominant over a couple of years after the war but I don't think enough evidence to put him in for me???)

Anybody disagree???

Yes. Duggan would make the tractor ride let alone the final!

I cant believe so many "All Time Greatest Teams" not featuring the Greatest Speedway Rider ? I'm a Birmingham fan and I have to admit that Bruce Penhall is by far the best rider ever! Pure Class! and also I noticed a Poole side without Sam Ermolenko? C'mon, there's speedway and then there's SPEEDWAY!!!

Tommy Price ..... Bengt Jansson

Think I would almost agree with those two teams iris. though I would probably put in Bjorn Knutsson instead of Soren Sjosten. And remember old style Test teams were 8 a side, so I would add Split Waterman for England and Gote Nordin for Sweden.

And how about Australia v. USA:

Australia

1. Vic Duggan

2. Vic Huxley

3. Bluey Wilkinson

4. Jack Young

5. Jason Crump

6. Billy Sanders

7. Max Grosskreutz

8. Lionel Van Praag

(Could have Leigh Adams and Ryan Sullivan at 7 and 8?)

U.S.A.

1. Bruce Penhall

2. Jack Milne

3. Cordy Milne

4. Greg Hancock

5. Billy Hamill

6. Wilbur Lamoreaux

7. Sam Ermolenko

8. Sprouts Elder

I was trying to come up with 5 venues for the Tests,Norbold.Any ideas?

And i must admit i forgot all about Knutsson .It`s also interesting that you name Split Waterman as i was considering Eric Langton,Norman Parker,Brian Critcher and Ron How for the England team but had forgotten about him, temporary.Just as well your writing the books and not me!

I would have thought a place in the USA side had to go to Scott Autrey .Personal opinion i know but through riding ability alone i think he was riding against far better opposition than say Billy Hamill and if it wasn`t for his determination to battle it out against the speedway authorities we might not have even heard of Penhall,Ermolenko etc.Lied to when told he could enter the World Championship in`73 and then basically ignored by the U.S authorities because he stayed here. Was it Mauger or Briggo that had to battle for his inclusion in the U.S side when the World Troupe visited.Superb rider .And no Aub Lawson?
