The White Knight
While I don't disagree with the sentiment, which you've expressed ad nauseum, unfairness and immorality are matters of opinion - they can't be facts. And please stop using capitals, it's the discussion forum equivalent of shouting. If you don't like what I Post, how I Post and my style of Posting for emphasis - then DON'T READ IT. I don't have a problem with that. SIMPLES really

spin king
Yes - right. Hang tha Sport - go for the MONEY. People drifting away from Speedway in droves, a lot because of credibility problems. So yes let's make money from the Play Offs and s*d the Sport for the rest of the year. Unless, of course, EVERY Team from National, Premier and Elite Leagues gets a cut of the 'Play Off' money. None of this though, invalidates the argument that the Play Off System is UNFAIR and IMMORAL. It does not matter from which angle that you look at it - THAT is a FACT!!! So lets get rid of the one thing that appears to making the sport money, is that wise. Most people I have spoken to agree the Play Off's are a good thing, they keep excitement in the sport till the end of the season, and the Promoters seem to feel that they make money, and there is no doubt that they cause excitement as teams fight it out to qualify for them. I personally think back to 2011 the last time the Premier League was decided with no Play Off, the season was over by the end of August, and at Sheffield crowds did start to fall towards the end of that season. The one thing that speedway clubs need to do is make money so would it not be madness to take away the one thing that is guaranteed to make them money. Speedway does not run on fresh air. Speedway does not run on fresh air. how can it be guaranteed to make money if they don't run all the fixtures?? ...if they have them they must do them correctly.... Imagine being a worky fan last year, you battle all year round to get to the play offs.... You have a slight chance of reaching the final, only to be denied the opportunity ... What a waste of time and effort!! Gutting and totally unfair IMO.If they are going to have these bright ideas, surely they need to ensure its doable?? Can't have them for money making purposes then scrap them??.... How much would worky made in a 2 legged final??.... We will have playoffs, we'll make money, but we'll scrap them because we can't fit them in....where's the logic in that??. Maybe underline the words you wish to emphasise? Meanwhile... Rather than keep on telling us that you are dead-set against the play-offs/Tac rides etc., etc., have you approached George/Darryl/Alan and discussed it with them? I am sure they would tell you why these rules/regs are in place and the chances of them being scrapped.
skthecat
I like the play-offs. The reasons in my opinion why speedway has "lost its mojo" as a spectator sport are as follows: 1) Weather, or how it can readily effect our sport. To many rain offs in general, and certainly meetings rained off far to early in some cases, and to late in other cases! Fans dont want to make wasted trips. 2) Team/Rider continuity. Riders not riding for their UK team because of other speedway commitments, fair enough if its world cup/gp and qualifying for it, but not domestic stuff, I know why they do, but prospective and new fans just cannot grasp the scenario.... 3) The guest system, that baffles and puts off new/potential fans alike, smacks of disloyalty to these people.. and takes the professional tag of the sport and puts it in doubt.... 4) Spectator facilties, lots of stadiums not conducive to attracting new fans... Theres other things, but I don't think the play offs are bad for the sport..
Lord Antebellum
After last night's TV, who cannot like the play-offs? Riders showing more commitment than in "ordinary" matches, bigger-than-usual crowds at both tracks, intense racing -- these two meetings had it all.

"more commitment" If THAT is true - then they are robbing the Public of their hard earned Cash at what you call "ordinary matches". So with THAT argument we should not bother going to the "ordinary matches" and just go along for the 'Play Offs'. I always thought Sportsmen were supposed to do their very best at all times. Well - you learn something new every day.

Well - you learn something new every day. You are wrong then. No point in raising your game, taking risks, when you are beating them easy. No fan of any sport believes that their team/sportsman is flat out every appearance. Do you really think Holder versus Schramm, Federer versus a qualifier, is going to play their best game/ride their fastest as opposed to how the play/ride against Tai or Djokovic. A professional sportsman cannot play/ride his best game all the time. That is not cheating the public.

Sure sometimes they are off Form but, I expect them to at the very least be try their best. You pay good money to get in to a Speedway Meeting - are you saying that Riders should not give of their best? If that is what you are saying - then I disagree with you totally. Fromafar
And the soutions are???............................ Have a good think about the sport before you say same again at the Promoters Annual meeting.I Personaly think whoever finishes Top are the champions. perhaps they could alter the league points won to a more radical system to keep interest .Just a suggestion say 10pts fo 10 pt win 9 for 9pt win ect.or something similar to keep interest in every fixture surely something can be thought out.Tin Hat On.I understand Why they want play offs mainly because a lot of teams are out of contention early season if just abog standard points scoring system.
