Nobody 'loses' the title till they have won it, Ian. Playoffs are exciting, and in line with what other sports are also doing because of the interest that they create.

Cost Newcastle the Title last Season Dave - I agree they are exciting - but - the 'Play Off' Champions were most definitely NOT the League Champions. A Champions Cup at the end of the Season would be just as exciting and the Team that won that Competition would be the Premier League Champions Cup Winner. A League Championship is won over a whole Season - to say anything else is illogical.

Because other Sports do it does not mean that we have to demean OUR Sport by doing the same thing.

Double Points, Play Offs - no the wonder folk are deserting Speedway in their droves.

Correction Newcastle cost themselves the title last year by Picking Somerset in their group and not Edinburgh.

Yes it IS a Con Lioness. League Championships are won/decided over a whole Season and not in a tuppence halfpenny Play Off Competition. To say - they knew the Rules before the Season started is correct - BUT crucially - it doesn't make it RIGHT does it?

The Play Offs is all about money - NOT the Sport. The money could be made in a really good Cup Competition. Sport is about CREDIBILITY as much as anything else - Speedway is losing it's credibility rapidly as is evidenced by the drastically falling Crowds.

You are probably right - but that is NOT my point.

People who have read my Posts on this Forum KNOW that I have consistently railed against the Play Off System since long before Newcastle lost last year. I have been consistent in my opposition to:- Play Offs, Double Points and the GPs., and other things too. You may not agree with me, that is your privilege, but please believe me when I say that I passionately want Speedway to do well - I can't see that happening as long as unfairness exists in the way the Sport is run and the way the Results are massaged/contrived.

I hope I have explained my position and that you appreciate that it is not bitterness because Newcastle lost the Play Offs that I am against the System, I would be against it whoever Won/Lost - it just isn't RIGHT.

no its not.

I know you like to be pedantically correct and a con is defined as

"persuade (someone) to do or believe something by lying to them:"

There is no lying - it is NOT a con. Its a set up that you dont like but we know before the season starts its happening so its not a con

Exactly - last season typifies why the play offs are so great, the League title went down to the very last race of the season.

Hmm... as there seems to be a push to cut costs in Speedway, how about reducing the expenses by removing the 24 leagu... qualifying meetings, and instead just hand the title over in a knockout tournament over the summer months. Less likelihood of a rain off, some teams will only need to stage 1 meeting a season - so very low costs, and as other teams are knocked out, more riders will become available - so no problem in finding guest's if they're required.

Seems like a good idea if you ask me, and it's roughly on par with the current setup anyway - so no changes for the Dinosaurs to worry about.

Precisely. Everyone knows the rules from day one. And the play-offs are more exiciting, contrast Glasgow's stroll to the title in 2011 with the 2012 Premier League title which Scunthorpe won on the final lap of the final race.

TWK, I know you're old school. Under the old two points for a win and one point for a draw, the 2012 table would have been: Somerset 31, Scunthorpe 31,Workington 30, Leicester 30, Newcastle 29.

All the best

Rob

Nonsense, other sports only do it because Sky tell them to. The biggest sport in the world does not use play offs to decide domestic lge champions, because its a farce.

would'nt agree with that,,, IMO, Newcastle cost themselves the title by 'not' replacing Steve Worrall', out with a broken leg, !!!

its not like Somerset won it anyway,,,
