Craig Cook Declines Test Meetings Gb V Aus

Recommended Posts

I find it hard to believe that he would lose money even at normal PL rates.

With a lower than expected score of say 9 he would get £500.

Perhaps he doesnt trust himself not to cop another fine!!

England are not riding in the forthcoming meetings though, GB are. You may care to check out Mr Tully's place of birth and where he grew up!

Jesus Christ most people refer to it as England even Scotty Nicholls referrred to it as England in the SWC.

Get over it. Scotland is just a county in England the same as Wales.

They sold themselves to England centurues ago.

Even the Germans called it England in WW2.

And if it was good enough for them it's good enough for me

If it was a "real" test series i'd agree with the criticism, but given that neither side is anywhere near a full international team i can understand him not wanting to lose money in an international "b" series.

He chose to ply his trade in the PL instead of the Polish and Swedish leagues. As such he should be grateful for the opportunity to ride in PL level test matches. If he think's he's too good for such things, then let him find out his own level full time in the EL, the Polish Ekstraliga and Swedish Elitserien.

Can't afford it? Rubbish. The riders expenses for the meetings will more than be covered by the money on offer - especially someone expected to score well. Sometimes you have to see the bigger picture and take the hit of earning a little less in expectation of future rewards.

If there's anything we can do to help...just ask! :t:

Tell you what Martin, to avoid you having to change your user name, I'll vote no ;) There again if we go independent Glasgow have a chance of finishing second in the Scottish PL lol

i don't see how riding on tracks they ride on anyway against riders they ride against already in the leagues will help them.

what they need to do is take a team on tour to another country and get experience on tracks that way

only problem would be cost

Spoken like a true Team GB manager!

My son (Adam Ellis ) represented GB in the U21's in both Italy and Poland this year. Did he even stand half a chance of breaking even, let alone making any money ???

No chance. But in our mind its international experience and should be grabbed with both hands, and if you don't like travelling then you're in the wrong sport.

With the GB test being held in the UK it does look as if cook could be shooting himself in the foot as far as future selection may go. Time will tell I suppose

Spot on, experience and pride should be the reasons riders want to ride. Good luck to Adam tomorrow at Berwick, if he can make some starts he could do really well.

Cookie clearly hasn't got what it takes, mentally, to progress from where he is.

Don't expect much more from him over the years because of this.

I can understand why you and many others would think that BigEd but I think Cookie has already shown he can learn from his mistakes - remember he couldn't ride Shielfield until the last year? Also I think we are aware that he had major problems away from speedway a couple of years ago but he got himself sorted out to become the top PL rider.

I never commented before on Ippogate but from all reports both riders deserved a fine but Cook lost it in the discussion with the ref - he acknowleged this the next day and indeed apologised for his actions and the fact that he let down his team mates and fans. At the same time Mr Barker was spouting off to the Sun that "it wasn't me, it was a big boy that done it"

Perhaps when Cookie said he couldn't afford to be in this GB challenge he meant it not from a financial viewpoint but that it was too soon to get involved with Barker again?

There's another one, possibly three Edin v Ippo clashes this year and hopefully both riders will have cleared the air before the first one, after Scunny last Friday and Edinburgh this Friday, we have seen how dangerous this sport can be without riders going on track bearing a grudge. Hopefully by the time they next meet, they will have had enough time to reflect and concentrate only on their racing.

Top Class post I think Cookie will figure again in a GB race jacket he is just letting the Media hype settle down and then he can get back in the groove winning races hopefully for his country He deserves to be picked

Good post DavyH.

I'm not aware of what has gone on in previous years. Re. the Barker incident, I wouldn't be at all surprised that Barker did one heck of a lot of provoking.

They both consistently do things that show a lack of focus and a lack of full professionalism.

When you start to get to the top level it is all about that incredibly sharp, relentless focus on performance.

Neither are ingrained in their though process.

Take the Poles walking the track last night at Shielfield. They were the only riders who were continually discussing lines and the track the whole way round.

They were studying every detail and visualising how they were going to ride various lines.

The others were just chatting and giving the track the odd kick.

To go to the next level, that is what it takes.

It's all in the head.

so either you or cook are telling fibbs??

Cook tweeted it was about making coin not spending it???... And he has done 60 meetings and don't need practice.

You are using barker as an excuse for him not riding.. What has his article in the sun got to do with this??( he's not even riding at Workington).... just down the road from home??....

Shooting himself in the foot if you ask me, and you and the other monarch spin merchants are loading the gun for him. :)

It's his prerogative if he doesn't want to ride, end of story, but I'm sure he doesn't need people like yourself contradicting what he's said why he's not.
