The White Knight
Big Arthur will be 69 this year born 22.09.1944 TWK Thanks very much for that MP2. He was good to watch was Arthur - he had some classics with Jack Millen too.
Paul
Have a look in the SS this week to read some straight talking about team GB. Indeed I have but it's not exactly really controversial is it? The Speedway Star aren't going to be in a claims court for printing that! topaz325
Still a strong message that has been sent out to all who read it..............
BWitcher
'Big' Arthur Browning was another true Character of those days - he is STILL riding a Motorcycle nowadays I believe. He must be some age now. Surely you mean he was a thug?

BWitcher
Arthur Browning a thug? You misunderstand.. the point is, as I think SCB made earlier.. riders from yesteryear involved in incidents/punchups/scandals are described as 'characters' and we hear how great they were.. Riders now, as soon as they're involved in anything are castigated and branded a scourge of the sport.. That's fine if folks opinions are the same for both, but you see some alarming inconsistencies at times.

The riders then had a laugh about it after the meeting ( well almost!!!!!!).

Should be a real laugh

I don't think that Jack Millen and Frank Auffret EVER joked or had a laugh after the Meeting MP2. :)

Backless
I don't think that Jack Millen and Frank Auffret EVER joked or had a laugh after the Meeting MP2. :) And based on your original comments about Auffret still harbouring hatred for Millen 30 years after the latter's death, perhaps the appropriate action wouldn't have been exclusion from a meeting, more like sumsission to a psychiatic ward. Still what a character, eh?
ch958
I doubt he actually hated him - prob disliked. I've harboured dislikes for people from years back - perhaps had Millen lived they may have had a laugh about things by now and perhaps if i ran into my betes noire i would do likewise. you could have a meeting involving the most controversial riders of our times tomorrow at any track in the country the crowd still wouldn't approach even a BL2 match in the 70s
DiamondsRock
It's ironic WK that you get very worked up when you feel artificial means are used to enhance the sport, yet back in the day when the sport was often promoted more along the lines of WWE you loved it. Please don't insult the memory of these Riders by saying it was a 'put up job' - believe me - IT WAS NOT!!!! "It's still real to me dammit"
Blazeaway
Speedway riders needing a police escort out of a stadium are descibed as characters? Yet if a footballer needed the same TWK and the rest would crucify them. Reminds me of the Michael Lee thread, it seems if you've ever ridden a 500cc bike with no brakes you are innocent. Even when proved guilty. It's a strange old world..

Backless
Okay, disliked a 30 year old corpse, not hated. Only mildly psychotic in that case. Still, what a card! What a character! If only the sport had more like him nowadays!

What a character! If only the sport had more like him nowadays! End of discussion with you. It is impossible to have a sensible debate with you Backless. This is a shame because I am sure, if you put your mind to it, you could Post less sarcastic and cynical Posts. Remove all of that and a lot of your Posts are very interesting. Sad. Edited July 29, 2013 by The White Knight
