Where Will A League Next Fail?

League racing has been tried and has failed in the USA, Australia, Rhodesia, New Zealand, Holland and South Africa.

Any guesses where it might next happen? And why?

The size and the distances involved in the USA , NZ , Aus & SA have a lot to do with the fact that league racing never caught on .Also speedway in all of those countries is very much a minority sport even more so than it is in this country

Not strictly correct in regard to the USA. Their league was not nationwide but centred on tracks in California. It wasn't an East-to-West coast competition. And the Australian league was centred only on tracks in New South Wales so, again, not real travelling problems.

And while the issue hasn't yet been raised, why did league racing fail in Holland? Certainly not distance in that lovely country?

The debate is though - where MIGHT league racing next fail?

Shortage of land for building and environmental pressures would probably be key factors there. Today speedway and grasstrack is largely the preserve of the north-east part of the country.

What a strange thing to want to debate?

Where would you like to see it fail?

Sorry, I disagree - obviously. That's not the question I asked or indicated I wanted to see happen. There's no where that I would like to see a league fail. It's just that it has happened elsewhere in the world. It does mean that I want to speedway fail, far from it. But league racing is not necessarily the be-al-and-end-all of the sport. For instance without any league structure nowadays and only rare team matches it appears to be thriving in the USA (at least in the traditional hot spot area of California).

Bit of a bizarre question but I'll have a go;

Angola

Belgium

Colombia

Ethiopia

France

Galapagos

Haiti

Ireland

Java

Kenya

Libya

Mauritius

Nepal

Outer Mongolia

Paraguay

Qatar

Romania

Swaziland

Tibet

Uruguay

Venezuela

Windward Isles

X...got me there.

Yugoslavia?

Zimbabwe.

Couldn't think of a D other than Denmark.

Or did you mean where individual meetings already take place?

No. I did say where league racing has been tried and failed. However, in regard to your response somebody had to post a silly answer and this time you win the prize for it.
