A ORLOV
Spoke to a couple of people last night and the parking on the centre green will happen. I have contacted a colleague who has a camper van, which when we go to other motor events we sit on the roof and get a very good view. This camper van has many advantages, gives a good view, has cooking facilities for bacon rolls and tea, fridge for beer and its own loo. Ben91
I dont get that. Do all people want to live in a house in the middle of nowhere then? I'd much rather be next door to some form of entertainent or a railway line for travel etc. I wonder if it would be possible to find a house with a pub, speedway track and train station within 100 metres? Because the thing would be worth nothing as nobody else wants to live there, I'd love it! Rye House has the pub and station next door, head 500 metres up the road and there's a couple of houses outside the sewage works, absolutely stinks but will probably make them even cheaper! Given the state of the bogs up there people will be queuing across the track to use yours!

Guest
The generally accepted 1st speedway meeting in the Uk at high beech had fans on the centre green!! But that was in the days before 'elf and safety came along.
Vince
Apparently Tim wanted to have the pits on the centre green when he built Newport but wasn't allowed, whether that was disallowed by the council or SCB I don't know.
speedwaysliders
I know a few people who are buying up open top double decker buses as i type this, they think the fans will love to watch the speedway from the upper deck on the centre green and have also got permission to sell alcohol.Forward thinking by some at last. Gemini
I'm still not sure if this is all an early April Fool's joke but I can think of nothing worse than watching speedway from the centre green and having to twist round every lap to follow the racing. I could perhaps last two heats then I'd be feeling rather sick.
John Leslie
I can think of nothing worse than watching speedway from the centre green and having to twist round every lap to follow the racing. My bus will have a built in turntable under each seat. Surprised no one else thought of it. I'm still not sure if this is all an early April Fool's joke Why? What is there to be unsure about? If I knew how to link this to the plans it would show you the access route across the track and the parking places on the centre green. Hel'n'Back
Hope it's an early April fools story!! Health and Safety would have a field day! Plus you wouldn't get to see the whole track unless parked in the middle and then you would feel very dizzy......very dizzy..... very dizzy............. The White Knight
Watching Speedway from the Centre Green is GREAT as a novelty - I would certainly not want to watch a whole Meeting from there. I did enough of that working on the Track at Sunderland. To be honest I don't understand how this can be practicable.
The Doctor...
Gemini let me assure you this is not an early April fool story. If I knew how to link this to the plans it would show you the access route across the track and the parking places on the centre green. Quite simple. Hit the little link icon, past in the link, job done. Until i see something remotely resembling confirmation, like many others, i can only think this is a wind up. Without dragging myself into it further, one bit apart from the many many obvious things, sticks out to me. How the hell does a normal supporter actually see the meeting with vehicles on the centre green ? You'd need the terracing to start about 30 ft above the level of the track to ensure that people could actually see the whole track without someones clapped out old Escort obscuring their view.

In the US Nascar fans have massive camper vans and motor homes with deckchairs on top of them to watch the racing from the infield Lots of food, beer and not sure what causes it but vehicles rocking during the racing. Admittedly like most things in America their infields are bigger than ours but yes it does block the view of the other side of the track for fans seated lower in the stands. greyhoundp
To be honest guys, most of this is irelevant if you dont get the Track built before The Houses, you wont even have a center green. I can see it now, Year 1 Stadium demolished to prepare the land for Houses, and new Stadium. Year 2 houses being built and land for Stadium lying idle. Year 3 Houses completed, land for Stadium lying idle. Then some years down the line when the salary monies and pension funds need topping up, in goes a planning application to be built on the disused eyesore site that WAS to have housed the NEW Stadium. That is the scenario you need to head off, any planning application needs to have the proviso added that "The Stadium is rebuilt before the Houses" or i guarantee you there wont be a Stadium.
A ORLOV
The current stadium is in a different place to the present stadium and will not be demolished until the new one is built and there will be minimal if no disruption to the racing. Also there is plenty of land to build hundreds of houses between the road system and the stadium. The story and picture about the stadium and parking was in the local paper on about July 18th and was not on the papers website. Anyone in Swindon could look at the records in the local paper office or library and confirm the story. I just wish someone could pull the story and picture across to this thread. The Doctor, hit the link icon, paste in the link etc, what is all that, I have enough problems turning the bl##dy computer on. I have just contacted the local paper and they hope to get back to me with a link to the story and picture.
