Hahaha, they really want to top up there salaries and pension pots before they retire, 450 Houses, and a Care home next to a "Speedway stadium" they must be looking to retire to this home when they have retired

To be honest guys, most of this is irelevant if you dont get the Track built before The Houses, you wont even have a center green. I can see it now, Year 1 Stadium demolished to prepare the land for Houses, and new Stadium. Year 2 houses being built and land for Stadium lying idle. Year 3 Houses completed, land for Stadium lying idle. Then some years down the line when the salary monies and pension funds need topping up, in goes a planning application to be built on the disused eyesore site that WAS to have housed the NEW Stadium.

That is the scenario you need to head off, any planning application needs to have the proviso added that "The Stadium is rebuilt before the Houses" or i guarantee you there wont be a Stadium.

Bang on the money ..trouble we got is that most of the Swindon think they are going to get a new stadium when in fact it's likely to be the end of the road . Are rather stay as we are .

It's not as good as the Benji Compton one where Dave Dowling just stands there eating his burger and defying death

No but Benji's didn't go across the Centre green, whereas in this case it did which is right where the cars would be !!

The first double decker fans bus on the centre green would have stopped the bike dead, with their new tank guard that goes round the bottom of the bus.Safety first ,these promoters are the best!!

Never heard such a ridiculous story in all my life!!! Only last year we held a round of the national youth championships at Leicester....... The young Kelsey Dugard lost control and ended up ploughing straight across the centre green from a starting point of turn 4 diagonally across the centre to turn 2 whilst under power!!! Nearly taking a start marshall, medic and raker with him!!! Cars parked on centre green?? Utter piffel! !!!

Courtesy Swindon Advertiser 22/08/2013:

A MOVE to change the plans for the development of the Abbey Statium has met widespread opposition.

Permission was given earlier this year to rebuild the stadium near Blunsdon, home of the Swindon Robins speedway team, and build 450 homes, commercial space and a care home.

However the developers, Landvest Houses and Gaming International, asked if the business space could be replaced with a further 66 houses due to the economic downturn.

They say demand for business space has fallen to such an extent that they do not believe they could fill the space.

However, there has been a host of opposition to the proposals from local residents, as well as Wiltshire Police.

The main source of contention is the increase in traffic flow, parking issues during race meetings at the stadium and the lack of provision for public services

.

Lisa Rogers, who lives near the stadium, has written to the council to express her concern at the alterations.

She said: “I do not believe due consideration has been given to the extra traffic flow this will cause.

“There is already congestion at peak times along Lady Lane to the A419 junction and the addition of more vehicles will only increase the use of Salzgitter Drive as a rat run for those vehicles trying to avoid congestion at Lady Lane and Oakhurst Way.”

Lisa also has concerns about the shortage of school places in north Swindon and fears parents will have to send their children further afield, causing problems elsewhere.

One of the main advantages of the new proposal was that it would give more control over parking at race meetings to the stadium owners.

There would be parking in the centre of the venue as well as on a specially built track.

Wiltshire Police have said that parking is a big issue with the proposal and may lead to problems between residents.

In a letter to the council, Bob Walton, the crime prevention design adviser for Wiltshire Police, said: “The high density of the housing has led to what I consider to be poor parking space allocation for vehicles.

“I am concerned that this will lead to both increasing numbers of thefts from motor vehicles (already one of the borough’s main crime problems) and potentially also to neighbour disputes over car parking issues.”

He also says there has been no communication between developers and the police to discuss measures on making sure crime and the fear of crime is kept to a minimum.

The change to the proposal is currently under consideration by the council. A separate alteration to the overall development has been passed allowing it to be completed in stages.

There was no-one available from either Landvest Houses or Gaming International to comment.

For all the doubters out there there is an update in todays Swindon Advertiser, entry in the most read column which confirms the extra parking at the new stadium including parking on the centre green.

Let's be honest, the stadium will never get built.

I see they have started work on the housing aspect though.

I've always thought it would be a non-starter.

Means you'll need to wait until the second half is finished before you can think of leaving for home.

Not good on a school night.

Parking on any speedway centre green/black/brown, whatever the surface will NEVER be used for car parking during a speedway meeting, period!!!! SCB/BSPA/FIM/ACU/RSPCA/GRA/HASAW would just not allow it!!

During the day/night I suppose it could work, but even then, what if a couple of residents/TWOC'rs leave/abandon locked cars/vans/buses there and vanish with the vehicles keys?? And rhen its race time???

Utter poppycock!!!!
