Centre Green Parking At Blunsdon

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this story has been covered elsewhere but it appears to have slipped under the radar.

It was stated in the Adver last week, as part of an article on the Abbey Meads area of the town, that Gaming International have submitted a revised plan for their Blunsdon development involving the building of more homes in order to make the scheme cost-effective.

If approved this would result in less car parking space outside the proposed new stadium and therefore provision would be made for supporters to park on the centre green during meetings.

I cannot find a link to this story on the Adver website but it was in the paper last Wednesday or Thursday.

Am I alone in thinking that this would be a) impractical as it would impinge on people's view and B) somewhat dangerous?

Probably against the rules as well. There are guidelines as to what can be on the centre greens and the tractors and associated equipment are expected to be off track for safety reasons. At Brough Park we are not allowed vehicles/tractors to be parked on the centre green by the stadium owners.

The picture of the new track, which I am looking at now, actually has a line around the track. The track has been made quite wide and for major meetings the inside of the track can be coned off and used for extra vehicles. It was considered too dangerous to allow parking on the outside.

The picture also shows a marked lane across the track on the third bend for vehicles to use.

Nice bump going into bend 3 then? As all that traffic passes over it every week, twice.

Gaming International tried very hard to come up with a scheme that was financially viable and allowed for a Speedway track. However Health and Safety issues made the scheme impossible so unfortunately and despite their best efforts they are unable to incorporate Speedway into the scheme!!!

Checking back this story was in last Thursday's Adver on pages 8 & 9.

Clarke Osbourne states 'The car park (on the original plan) will be extended slightly and we will have parking in the centre of the circuit'.

As Orlov states above, there is a driveway across the 3rd bend to the parking spaces in the centre of the track.

Madness.

I would never take in anything that Osbourne says ..the key to knowing when is he is telling lies is when his lips move ...any change he tries will be to make will be to stop a speedway stadium being build . Never trust or take your eyes of this bloke .

In the late 1930s, when Brandon (as it was known) was used for midget car racing, the promotion tried the American idea (used at some car venues in the USA) of having the race cars parked on the centre green. No 'Elf "n Safety in those days but the then local council quickly stopped the procedure as being dangerous - in case cars that were racing came off track and went on the centre green and hit parked cars, other drivers, mechanics and pits staff.

I agre: the present suggestion is certain to be a no-goer.

The generally accepted 1st speedway meeting in the Uk at high beech had fans on the centre green!!

I mentioned that to someone at Brough on Sunday. Crazy days thinking bringing things like this back into the sport, but you do get the best seat in the house watching from the inside if you are allowed to stay with the car

A definate non runner with current rules..

If you want a Stadium, just make sure it gets built before The Houses do, if you don't, you will never get it built. Still waiting on Bristol, Still waiting on Reading, Still waiting on Milton Keynes, and if the houses get built first at Swindon, it will be the same scenario. They will take the money to pay salaries, Top up the pension pots, and submit another plan to build houses on the speedway site, in a few years.

I think you can add Long Eaton to that list as well? Never trust a plan that involves both speedway and housing because no-one would want to buy a house next to a motor sport stadium.

I dont get that. Do all people want to live in a house in the middle of nowhere then? I'd much rather be next door to some form of entertainent or a railway line for travel etc. I wonder if it would be possible to find a house with a pub, speedway track and train station within 100 metres? Because the thing would be worth nothing as nobody else wants to live there, I'd love it!

Yes, but living next to a motor sport venue is generally not a buying point from the perspective of most people.

Yet weirdly, someone of the most expensive houses in Coventry are on the road the stadium is on.

As for the people moaing, I bet they also moan, "there is nothing to do around here" too.
