LOL, another moaning weegie - surprise, anyway a bit of theatre at the twitchers and everyone gets their panties wet. Cookie admitted he was wrong last night, the lad's just got learn to deal with yoda, the likes of Millen & Gresham would have sorted yoda on track without need for a meeting.

PS last time i looked at hits on chatzone was when we went thru 100K posts a few seasons ago.

OMG Dekker, that's about 3 months worth of words for you in one post ;)

Aye busy with other stuff last few months, not much to comment on here.

>100k of self-ingratiating bluster and whinging about stuff in the knowledge that you'll only get positive replies - what a twee and happy little world the Moanarchs live in :-)

Yup just like any other club forum. Nice to see a new tigger on here

BSPA is missing a PR trick with this one.

The real speedway promoters of bygone years would have milked his one in the national press for all it's worth. All publicity is good publicity as the saying goes. Still a chance to do so.

New golden boy of British speedway puts the lights out of a rider who, if given the choice, would be reincarnated as himself.

Hope a line can be drawn under this now . British speedway is in a bad enough state without two of it's alleged top riders at each other's throats .

I thought Barker was involved ?

Years ago people may have read it, now I doubt if anyone outside of speedway gives a damn unfortunately..

It's a pity that Cookie being thrown out of the meeting largely (although they kept it competitive for a while) meant it would be tough for Edinburgh to get through this cup tie.

The league clashes at Armadale and Foxhall will be that bit more interesting now.

Promoters dream... box office tills should be ringing big time for these matches.

Lets hope that you are right and something positive does come out of this.

It would be great to see two superb hard but fair matches in front of two bumper crowds.

Yes I'm sure lots can be done to promote the return clashes without going overboard.

Had a look when I was in Tesco this morning. Took me ages to find anything. It's four or five shortish paragraphs (probably enough for Sun readers and Edinburgh fans to cope with), at the bottom left of a left hand page. I genuinely can't recall what it says, because the funniest bit was the final line, which says something like "Poole Pirates have signed former world champion Greg Hancock".

It shows the state our sport is in when the Man Utd of speedway (copyright Shovlar) gets one line at the bottom of a page, under a brief article about two blokes who no-one else will have heard of anyway.

The irony isn't lost on any of us (well maybe any of us).

And I think you're talking rubbish! OK, I agree, if cookie has damaged equipment and continued to act in an aggressive manner when talking to the referee, then fine. The ban was the right thing to do. But nobody is pointing to why it started in the first place. Will Barker explain in the Sun what the initial provocation was that made Cook react like he did? Cook had beaten him in the race fair and square so wouldn't just go and start a fight. He reacted (wrongly) to what was said. After it flew out of hand with the ref.

But of course, Barker won't have said anything... Poor little Benji... All the blame is on cookie. Fact is nothing would have happened if Barker could keep his mouth shut - maybe this is the reason fellow professionals don't get on with him.

I was one that was also lost out last night but I feel as aggrieved with the intended incitement in the programme by a supposed professional promotion team and the actions as much of your riders as our own.

Well done Cookie for the professional apology. Now to do the talking on the track.

Nobody has said in this thread that Ben is innocent, no doubt he did provoke Cook but words are words and fists are fists. Ben used words, Cook used fists and ultimately Cook took Barker's bait hook, line and sinker.

He *should* of let his racing do the talking, scoring as much as he could to help his team knock us out of the final - instead he did the polar opposite and handed us the Cup Final place on a silver platter.

Cook was outsmarted by Barker, it's as simple as that.

Congratulating someone for making an apology after they have done wrong? It's the absolute minimum of an apology he should of given, if I commit a crime and go to court where I plead guilty - should I expect praise and thanks from the judge and jury?

What a bizarre thing to say, also interesting that in his (much anticipated but ultimately underwhelming) "statement" he can't even use Ben's name, seems pretty childish.

He goes on to state there was "significant" initial provocation, no, there wasn't - it was totally insignificant and should of just been ignored, as any decent professional would have done - from that statement and trying to use that as some form of justification, I'd suggest that Cook still hasn't really taken on board what happened or learned any lessons from it at all.

A bit like Barker then as he keeps getting himself involved in these situations.

I agree, but when was the last time Barker was thrown out of a meeting as a result?

I'm not defending Barker or trying to imply he was entirely innocent in this event - I'm fairly sure he was the spark that ignited the fire, but Cook offers his apology and then tries to justify it a few words later - it's either an apology or not, it seems he's not sure himself.

LOL! It was eminently forgettable, honest. A bit like Cook's only ride at Foxhall on Thursday ;)

And all 4 of Barkers' rides...

But you're missing the point... Cook isn't apologising to Barker and I don't see why he should. He was apologising to the supporters of both teams. The statement was a personal admission of guilt and apologised accordingly. Barker hasn't offered any apology and he's as guilty of making the tie a non-spectacle as Cook was.
