f-s-p
The track isn't narrow..they have taken in the apex of the turns..and plenty of room going in....it will be a great race track Lets hope so, really! It's 10 meters wide on the straights, and 14 from the bends. I might be wrong about the bends, but thats a number I remember reading somewhere. With those figures it's 98 meters longer than Poole and 2 shorter than Ullevi. Regarding the apex of the turns... CHECK this out and then look at the pic Chris is quoting. The "Tampere" text can be seen on both pics at roughly the same place between turns 1 and 2. EDIT: It was here. spiegal
Why have they laid it now and not just before the GP. Its because of the severe winters in Finland...the base, and initial top surafce goes in before the frosts and deep snow. That's the main structural work done, as was in progress when I was at the stadium 2 weeks ago...impressive stadium and shape. When they get to spring all they have to do is to let teh natural frosts come out, then finish off the man job...thats same principle as operated in Sweden on existing tracks. f-s-p
Thanks. It will probably be cold in May too. My wife spent last May at home, she could not shut up how wonderful the weather was all that time... Who knows how will it be, there's been great May's in recent years! And there's no Atlantic winds bringing rain like in Göteborg. Speaking of rain, the 1:10 scale rc offroad ep worlds were held at Chico, California last month. They had selected the week according to past 10 years of (no) rain stats. You guessed it, it rained, bad. The did have winners in both classes, but it was all badly affected by rain. WembleyLion
WOULDN'T bet on it... Well Riga is being reported by quite a few different sources this evening! Time will tell of course!

PHILIPRISING
I AM currently out of the UK but rumours of Riga are gathering strength. Was certainly being lined up for 2015 but maybe things have moved on quicker than anticipated.
eric i
ONE necessity at that time of the year is a roof ... How effective is the roof at Torun, I seem to remember one year the track got wet because the roof doesn't not completely cover the track. PHILIPRISING
NOT as good obviously as Cardiff for example but still much better than nothing. Rather freakish weather conditions there in 2012 left some water on the first and second bends but it was quickly cleared.

Ghostwalker
Mats Olsson at C More said that he believe that it is Italy that will replaced by Tammerfors/Finland. WOULDN'T put money on that ... WOULDN'T bet on it... Well that was what you said about Italy as well.
PHILIPRISING
NEVER pretended to be right all the time ... just tell it as I know it at the time. Lonigo was actually on the draft 2014 SGP calendar at one time, as was or is Daugavpils, but once Copenhagen returned, rather unexpectedly, it was dropped. PHILIPRISING
WITH regard to Riga ... the promoters at Daugavpils signed a two year (2013 and 2014) contract with BSI but there was a proviso that should they find a suitable stadium in Riga and build a permanent track consideration would be given to moving the event to the Latvian capital. That is where we are now. No doubt the Prime Minster of Latvia, who flew to Daugavpils by helicopter this year, would also much rather have the event in his own backyard. And anyone who has been to Riga will testify that it is a great, and relatively cheap, city to visit and a far more attractive proposition than Daugavpils. Yes, but where exactly in Riga is the GP going to be held? The largest stadium is rectangular and used for football during the summer, which really only leaves the Daugava Stadium which has a capacity of just 5,000. It's maybe possible to put some temporary stands on the bends, but there seems to be limited space to do it. The back straight seems to have trees all the way down it.
