Warsaw Gp In 2014 ?

Sportowefakty are reporting that negotiations are at an advanced stage for a GP to be held in the Polish national football stadium in Warsaw in 2014.A possible date of june 28th has been mentioned.

I don't know Warsaw is not a speedway city never was and never will be.

IT wouldn't be a fourth GP in Poland but if it happens (and it is still a big IF) it would replace one of the existing rounds.

 

A lot of these big stadiums in major cities are desperate for events to put on and is indeed where Poland played England in a soccer international that was postponed because they failed to shut the roof. Agree with pawel115 that Warsaw has never ben a speedway city but know that the PZM are keen to showcase speedway in their capital.

I know it's another potential temporary track on the SGP rota, which wouldn't be universally popular. But visited Warsaw after last year's Torun GP, the stadium is really impressive (when they remember to shut the roof with rain forecast!) & is close to the the city centre with trains every few minutes from Central station. Great destination for travelling fans, would highly recommend it if it comes to fruition. Is an announcement imminent or would it be more likely to be confirmed with the rest of the 2014 calendar around Oct/Nov time?

Agree Grand Central about the permanent tracks/stadia you mentioned. In addition, with the likes of Prague, Terenzano & Daugavpils (which don't tend to produce great racing) on the GP calendar, I'd think it's even more important that Poland has its better tracks on the list. I think the National Stadium in Warsaw holds somewhere around 55,000 for football, so would assume a speedway crowd capacity of around 40/45,000?? Must be very tempting for BSI/PZM with the potential revenue streams that sort of attendance would generate.

Should be in good company then with Gelsenkirchen and Cardiff. Will the shale be stored in a scientifically designed pyramid shape again?

 

Although Warsaw isn't a speedway city, neither really is Cardiff and Copenhagen and I suppose a one-off prestige event might still pull the crowds. If this comes off though, no doubt it's because BSI have persuaded Warsaw City Council to pony up a subsidy.

With the kind of crowds they get in Poland,and the standing speedway has in the Country,it makes sense for BSI to get another GP in Poland.If it has to take the place of an excisting venue then it could be Prague that gets the chop,there were empty seats at this years round in the GP series and even more empty seats at the recent SWC.IMO it will be a shame as Prague seems to be a popular trip for GB fans,though it seems not the locals.

True but didnt Bydgoszcz give us one of the best Gps ever earlier this season,that should guarantee a full stadium in 2014.

BSI will have no scruples about dropping Bydgoszcz again if the PZM come up with the money for a Warsaw GP(still have my doubts as its a massive financial risk)Bydgoszcz has probably produced the best speedway of any venue on the GP calender but was dropped like a stone when big money and long contracts were desired by rich promoters at Leszno,Torun and Gorzow.When Leszno decided they didn't want to play anymore reliable old Bydgoszcz were begged back on the calender.It wont be much of a shock to see Bydgoszcz being the fall guys again,if Warsaw is a goer,probably with the excuse that Bydgoszcz need to redevelop their facilities(same reason given 3 years ago !)

THERE is also a political game going on in Bydgodszcz with the club trying to acquire financial help for stadium improvements from the local council and using the staging of SGPs as an inducement.

 

It is certainly the PZM rather than BSI pushing for Warsaw. From their perspective, they see Denmark, GB and Sweden all staging GPs in national stadiums and want to do the same, especially as they see themselves as the major speedway nation, now enhanced by their World Cup victory.
