All this comment was never answered at the end of the day. I wasn't at Rye House (my last visit was when Vic Ridgeon, Mike Broadbank and Al Sparrey were the local favourites) but I understand from a reliable source admission was as stated on the website. So where did the £16 brouhaha originate from? Just a fan's fertile mind at work maybe?

From the Sheffield Star:

Josh Auty makes a welcome a return to Sheffield colours tonight when they head to Rye House.

Auty comes in for injured skipper Simon Stead in the No.1 spot as they look to bounce back from Thursday’s home defeat by the Rockets.

Local youngster James Sarjeant has also been booked to deputise for injured reserve Damien Koppe and Joe Haines will have a late fitness test.

Boss David Hoggart said: “We are delighted to welcome Josh back to the team even if it’s for just the one night.

“He was a good rider for us during his spell as a Sheffield rider and he’s making good progress in his career with Birmingham in the Elite League.

He’s a master of the Rye House track and was only too pleased to accept the opportunity to deputise for Steady.

“It was a major disappointment to lose at home on Thursday, we simply threw too many points away and it wasn’t acceptable.

“But on the positive side I was delighted to see Adam Roynon hit double figures. He was aggressive, he had the old fire back in his belly and he looked like the rider we know he’s capable of being.

“I also thought James Sarjeant was good value and deserved five or six points for his efforts. He’s got something to offer the sport and I’m convinced he can enjoy a good career.

“We are waiting on Joe and will give him every opportunity to make his decision after he was hurt in a training accident.”

Sheffield are on second in a double header with Rye House v Glasgow starting at 6pm. Adult admission is £20 for both matches but if Sheffield fans only want to see their match normal admission prices will apply at the end of the first meeting.

Tigers: Josh Auty, Joe Haines, Ricky Wells, Richard Hall, Adam Roynon, James Sarjeant, Facundo Albin.

What a difference a couple of days make. On Thursday I thought Adam Roynon was superb, but last night he looked hesitant and off the pace. Compared to Facundo Albin who looked less than ordinary at Sheffield, but impressed me last night when I imagined he'd struggle.

Good to read that Rye House intend to retain the services of Pontus Aspgren for the remainder of the season. He's been impressive and seems to have worked the track out fairly quickly. His bike looked quick too, which is an added bonus. His performance tailed off after he was involved in that first bend bunching incident, but a promising first few meetings nonetheless. Hopefully a long term fixture in the side. A possible masterstroke by the promotion if it can happen. That odd shade of red helmet cover makes him stand out.

Think the pre race fanfare needs some work. Nice try though.

You certainly get a different perspective standing by the start line. I enjoyed the banter between the home fans and the ref/announcer.

Only an hour wait for the RAC to arrive and change the busted tire on the car which fell victim to the infamous crater at the car park entrance. That chasm really needs to be sorted out. That's me £80 out of pocket tomorrow. Meanwhile we waited in the bar where we had a nice half hour in the company of the Rockets captain and his charming missus. The meet the riders post meeting idea is working a treat.

I have been told by someone directly involved with Rye House that THERE WAS NO REDUCED ADMISSION for the Sheffield match only. This would have caused certain problems in regard to the staffing of the turnstiles over so many hours. I can only go on what I have been told.

Thanks for the update. With the Sheffield match having started only 19 hours ago any information you can pass on is invaluable. Please keep us posted with the latest news on the subject.

Apologies to Backless if I've muscled in on your territory.

There appears to be no brouhaha from anybody but one non-attending forum member. £20.00 for 30 heats of speedway is a good deal in my view and in reality the gates were open and not manned at the end of the first meeting as Shadders will confirm as he went to check his car between the meetings. So if a Sheffield fan had turned up to watch only the 2nd meeting they would of got even a better deal. 15 heats of speedway for free.

Nice and sarcy AJK. One of you best! Don't you think that as a comment was made that reduced admission charges WOULD BE MADE for the second match at Rye Hiouse (v Sheffield) and when YESTERDAY a query was raised as to if this was actually implemented it would be nice to see an answer to the query.

A person with close links to Rye House advises me that it was not implemented, the 'Sheffield Star' indicated it was going to take place.

You obviously don't know despite so deviate with what's known in the discussion trade as a smart rrrrsss comment.

Thank you. That confirms what the Rye House person told me. There was no official reduced admission charge 'technically' for the match versus Sheffield.

Surprised some of the so called regulars were not aware of it, Has always been the case that normal prices would apply for those wanting to come in for the second match. Indeed it's fairness has often been discussed as the same doesn't apply for those who go after the first match.

Yes it was in the Sheffield star so no not a fans fertile mind at work. Probably the reason a 7.30 start time for the sheffield meeting was shown in the media

So you finally got your answer with some determined leaning on your leads Gustix. Not quite Philip Marlowe standard detective work yet though!

I got to the track at 8.45 having been to Cricket (only decided to go when i saw delay for mascots injury) and i went in the pit gate and was charged £16 for the 1 meeting - got in just in time for heat 1!

Thank you for this, but it wasn't an official entry via the turnstiles which officially did not offer a reduced admission policy for the second match.

Looks like your secret sources directly involved with Rye House have been keeping secrets from you.

There has been an official turnstyle adjacent to the Pits Entrance for some years now.

Real entrance, real Rye House employee, real tickets and programmes. Amazing what innovations have happened since Len took over.

Its just the presentation and 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines' that has stayed the same since the invention of the internal combustion engine )))

The pit gate at Rye House has public access and has always been the late gate when there is no access from the main turnstiles as well as allowing paid access before too.

yep, it was the official entrance i went through, i got my little ticket and programme from the lady on the gate
