Pride Of The Midlands 21 July

Recommended Posts

Maybe they were telling him how many f**k ups he made tonight !! It was vintage Popple i mean he announced the changes then to read the line up for the races with the missing riders in it was excellent. The cock ups went on & on.

To top it off it appears he managed to have public argument no 2 of the week this time with a group of VERY loyal supporters.

When will DH learn this clown is damaging his club & how many public arguments is he going to have when the toys go out the pram

End of it all Popple has managed to alienate himself from even more fans tonight & made no new friends after his 2nd out burst in 7 days

Anyone know what some fans were shouting at Popple about as it seem to rattle him a bit

I too thought that Mr Popple was really bad tonight with a number of mistakes with wrong race line ups and helmet colours wrong. It is all well and good to have a a bit of banter with the crowd but feel the silly comments and public slanging match was very unprofessional. He does seem to want to create issues and problems with people and fans.

Onto the meeting I picked Lawson as the winner and thought he rode very well I was very disappointed with Klindt was very poor seems to have lost his bite. It was good to see Darkin again and feel that he could do a good job at Leicester in middle order but not a replacement for Kauko if needed.

Was there many there today,I guess the meeting was boring by what shadders has said, just glad i didnt go, shame if popple had stick again.

I estimated around 400.

I was told the last couple of meetings have been very good. Must've been an off night. Most races were too spread out for my liking. Some stand out performances, notably Lawson & Hougaard with Bager looking more comfortable than he did at Rye last night. Some poor performances also. Klindt was awful. Can't believe I was disappointed Rye didn't sign him. The Hungarian touting around for a team spot didn't do himself any favours. There are better young NL guys who deserve a chance ahead of him. Gissa job Darkin was saying the right things. Seems he would welcome a return judging by the centre green interview.

Palm-Toft improved as the meeting went on. Surely worth a punt at reserve somewhere.

Dunno what that karaoke during the interval was all about. I'm guessing she won that gig as a prize in a draw?

First time I've noticed that there is no view of the pits for supporters. Some tracks I've been to allow fans access up until about half an hour before the start, notably Rye House, Berwick & Somerset. At Leicester you can't even see them!

Back on a couple of weeks when the Rockets are in town.

I agree Flagrag, Darkin looked decent tonight (though against a very weak line-up) and i wouldn't mind seeing him back if the team was re-jigged in a major way. Hougard and Lawson both looked a class above tonight and deserved to be racing off for the championship. The race off was probably the only decent race of the night as we were back to the usual crap served up as entertainment. For whatever reason the track isn't up to entertaining the paying public on a regular basis, one good meeting in 2 1/2 years followed by a reasonable meeting and everyone's who slags off the track is getting it wrong all of a sudden but tonight put us back to square one.

To an extent the plus point is that less than 500 people were there to witness it.

I did see a guy with a Rye House programme board on the first bend thinking i hope that's not shadders as that's a long way to go to watch this but seems it may well have been him .. unlucky! I was put out and i'd only travelled 2 miles.

Sounds like popple and DH are related are both bad for the club.

it sounds like popple mess ups was the highlight of the night,so i take it the racing was poor

Don't you mean international singing star!! I'm sure that's what Chris Popple called her. It was dreadful beyond belief. Surely someone, somewhere, has the nerve to tell these type of acts that no one is interested. Never should Karaoke singers be allowed to overstep their remit! In a way though i guess her introduction to the nights entertainment, in a warped way, helped make the racing appear less piss poor.

any ideas volty how the team could be re-jigged to fit him back in.

I'm afraid i have no idea at all!!

Maybe if Nieminen is out for a period we could bring him in and the extra point and a half odd could be added to Edbergs average (again if he is out for a period) and we could bring in another middle order rider

say

Bjerre 7.38

Doolan 6.96

Karlsson 6.91

Darkin 6.53

a Boxall/Sanchez/Nedermark or someone similar upto 6.23

Graversen 5.49

Branford/Sergeant 3.00

not sure that would be the answer though!

I went for my first speedway fix since the Somerset defeat. The racing was poor, with the only passing coming from clear mistakes or faulty machinery. Apart from the final, that is, which saw Hougaard work a pass on Lawson's inside on lap 1 back straight, but his speed and position going into turn three took him so wide Lawson couldn't fail to retake the lead. I estimated the crowd to be about 700. It may have been lower, but either way it must be concerning for Mr Hemsley, whose facial expressions are those of a man with worries.

I thought the track grading was done promptly, but the blue groove seems to be growing. The flow of the meeting was helped by a minimal number of re-runs. No lengthy delays.

I thought the interval singer was ok, a brave attempt to provide some different entertainment, but country rock may not be everyone's taste. I have developed a way of switching off when Popple starts his drivel, so I didn't catch his cock-ups this time.

Oh dear what a night.

A combination of factors that combined to produce a truly dreadful evening.

I'm sure popple said something like the rider in the blue gate helmet & mentioned the midland defense league. Which should have been the midland development league.

Oh boy, I won't even mention the racing.

Yes mate, that was me, next to the camera stand. Two more visits to Leicester with Rye & Berwick. Hope it's better racing for those, although I'd take another poor meeting in a couple of weeks if we take something away with us

The only way we can silence him is if he resigns.

He is like a bad skid mark on a toilet

You flush & you think its going to go ( we got rid of popple last year)

Then when the water goes away its still there just like Popple

Please can we silence Popple

Crowd was definitely below 500. I was having so much fun watching the racing I did a rough head count and I had it at around 480. I wonder what Sergei Darkin thought. last time he rode here I would say the crowd wouldn't have dipped below 2000 and that was only 2 years ago!

The crowd was 600 plus. Fact, they were all counted in. Not the best night of speedway, not a good time of year, as Leicester school holidays started as of Friday, Lets be honest, and I do not mean to be disrespectful to any rider who attended, but it was not exactly a top class line up. How many fans from other clubs were really going to travel to support their riders? Especially after the total shambles and expense of the prem fours last weekend!! One idea would maybe turn it in to a competition for prem clubs No1s or at least heat leaders only? Difficult , I guess? But with a bit of thought about the date and timing of the meeting I am sure something could be done? I guess payment to riders may have a big bearing on who would take part though?
