Pride Of The Midlands 21 July

Recommended Posts

In history I've always associated 'Pride Of The Midlands' as being an individual event staged at Monmore Green. Did Leicester have to get permission off CVS to use this title?

Cheers Lefty

Leicester staged a Pride of the Midlands individual meeting at least as far back as 1963, so I don't think Wolves have any real claim to being first. I think all of the Lions riders (at least those that are fit) will be riding, plus former Lion Sergey Darkin, and others that should be confirmed later today. Jari Makinen was due to take part until he suffered a broken leg riding in Finland. I think Thomas Jorgensen and Henning Bager were mentioned on Saturday.

Line up as drawn and announced last Saturday :

1. Thomas Jorgensen

2. Henning Bager

3. Sergei Darkin

4. Kevin Doolan

5. Nicolai Klindt

6. Adam Roynon

7. Simon Nielsen

8. Jari Makinen

9. Ashley Birks

10. Joe Haines

11. Lasse Bjerre

12. Kauko Nieminen

13. Jan Graversen

14. Patrick Hougaard

With 2 more to be confirmed. Obviously Makinen and Birks will be replaced in the line up, and Simon Nielsen is also subject to fitness.

Don't you think the meeting title is somewhat misleading or is the word pride supposed to represent a gathering of Lions

Is the actual line-up a secret?

Don't think so. Just had a look at Alan's info on the Lion's website and he reports that since announcing the riders and doing the draw during the Newcastle match last Saturday, Kozza Smith, Jari Makinen, Ashley Birks & Kauko Nieminen have all been forced to pull out. Now in are Ricky Ashworth, Jake Andersen & Roland Benko who is an 18 year old Hungarian currently doing the tracks. There are however still places to be filled.

It would appear you may be able to add Haines to that list now

Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the Updates site? If so, could you please send me a private message including your mobile number.

Thanks
