lucifer sam
KLINDT TO MAKE SCORPIONS DEBUT HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions bring in new signing Nicolai Klindt into their line-up this week as the Scorpions are involved in two vital Premier League fixtures. Danish international Klindt makes his debut at Ipswich on Thursday evening, and then makes his first home appearance in Scorpions’ colours on Friday (7.30pm), as Scunthorpe entertain the Redcar Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Klindt was, until recently, the track record holder at Ipswich’s Foxhall Heath circuit. However, it appears that skipper Ashley Birks is set to miss the two meetings through injury, after fracturing his scaphoid in a guest appearance at Leicester last Saturday. Promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We’re delighted to welcome in Nicolai Klindt. He adds real strength to our line-up; we have now a very powerful top five. “I think Nicolai will see this as an opportunity to get himself going again and take it as a stepping stone to get back into the Elite League. “I’m gutted that Ash got hurt the other day. I felt we had a good chance to get a win at Foxhall Heath with a full team, because we ride well there. We’ll still go there looking for points. “Ash is 99.99% sure to be out of this week’s meetings. I’ll never say 100% with him, because he’s the sort of guy who will turn up on Thursday wanting to ride. “He is talking about coming back as soon as possible. Fortunately he’s hurt his throttle hand, not his clutch hand. It’s still going to be painful when he rides, but it won’t be as bad. “It’s a blow being without Ash because he’s been riding as our second heat-leader this season, but he’s only fifth in our rolling averages, so rider replacement is a poor replacement for him.” Friday’s visit of the Redcar Bears sees the Scorpions out to avenge a 41-49 defeat to the Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway earlier in the season. “Everything went wrong that night”, recalls Godfrey. “Lewis Blackbird has been superb for us since we brought him in, in May, but he had a rare off-night the last time Redcar were here, and it left us exposed at reserve. “Lewis was a complete star for the Scorpions last Friday – he was brilliant. It may have been Josh Auty who passed Tyson Nelson on the line in Heat 15 after a miracle ride, but without Lewis we’d have never got as far as that final heat. “We’re also taking measures to help get Ryan Douglas going. We’re helping him to sort out his machinery. Ryan has the potential, and we want to help him to unlock the key. “We do owe Redcar one, because they put us out of the cup. “Nicolai Klindt has ridden at the Eddie Wright Raceway a couple of times before, in the Kenny Smith Memorial meeting and also in a practice session. It may take him a couple of rides to get going on Friday. I don’t think it will take him long, because he is a quality rider.” Redcar themselves have suffered a couple of injuries. Matej Kus is a doubtful starter on Friday, while Steve Worrall has been signed as a temporary replacement for Max Dilger. Meanwhile, the Scorpions’ target remains a place in the play-offs. Godfrey says: “Looking at the league table, we’re not actually that far behind sixth spot. “The majority of our remaining meetings are away, but that means nothing this season – everyone is losing at home. You can actually score more points in away matches. A couple of big away wins, which are worth four league points, would change our situation very quickly. “Our aim is definitely that sixth place, to get into the play-offs.” Admission Prices for Friday: Adult: £14.00 Student/OAP: £12.00 Child (10 - 16): £5.00 Child (0 - 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £33 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-16) Match Programme: £1.00 Teams for Friday (English unless stated): Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Maybe the last heat deciders will end soon as Ashley Birks was a big miss but will be back soon and Nicolai Klindt looked good after taking two heats to get used to the track.
