World Cup Race Off - 18th July 2013

Lewis Bridger Tai Woffinden and Ben Barker in the same pits together. This will be as much a test of rider professionalism and man management skills as it will of the riders ability on the track.

Like having Joey Barton, Suarez and Evra in the same dressing room...

Let's not forget that Cook was 4th in the GB final this year ay?

I hope we beat the Aussies on Thurs and make the final. But what happens then? Did Middlo tell Cook he's still on stand-by (or Kennet or King?) in case one of our boys fails or picks up an injury in the play-offs?

It just feels like "seat of the pants" stuff.

Hope the BSPA and all those involed with GB speedway will sit down afte this and all say to them selfs "How do we bring elite british speedway riders through the system" and keep them there at the top.

Not just me, but i could name at least 10 riders throughout the 90's/early 00's that could sail into the GB team. Probably only Tai who is worthy of his place, but Harris(few year ago)Loram/Louis/Screen/Dugard/Norris/Barker/Smith/Nicholls(02-04)/Rico/Stonehewer/Havelock/Tatum/Wilson could easily get in that team and replace all the other squad members.

Are British Speedway failing British riders and getting the next crop of talented quality riders through to the GP's and be top Elite league riders?

There is a fine line between promoting riders with lots of promise like Cook & Worrall only to see them to get badly beaten when out of there current class. Cook tried hard but he only beat 3 opponents in 5 heats at Lynn.

Cook is very promising but that's as good as he is at the moment against seasoned GP riders The experience won't be lost on him but another tough meeting, which could go even worse, at Prague may send him backwards confidence wise.

Building for the future is fine but the rider has to be ready to do himself justice.

As for getting 3rd in the Final.

I would take that proudly as the team would have ridden well to win the play off and then done well in the Final. It would be something Sweden, Australia, Russia, Czech didn't win and would give us a base for 2014. .

Something i also brought up many times on the main thread and got shot down. Spot on.

So we "pip" the Aussies and pick up a Bronze medal due to the Czechs being there - hurray for us. Is that the limit of our ambitions stealing a 3rd when the Swedes and Aussies are devastated with injury? And next year when the Swedes and Aussies are back to full strength what happens then? Oh yeah we start scratching our heads again wondering why we don't have a team to compete at the highest level. How many World Cups has Bomber got left?

Why not admit we can't win it this year and take Tai and any 3 of Auty Barker Cook Worrall Howarth Birks? King / Bridger / Kennett have all been tried before. Where's the long term strategy ...we don't have one.

Middlo has destroyed Kennett's confidence and now really teed off Cook. Cook wasn't brilliant last night but he was fast and still learning and oh yeah ... he outscored 2 US riders 2 Swedes and 1 Brit.

Put the GB manager job up for grabs again to be voted in by Promotions but applicants state what their strategy is going to be. Interview them and appoint them. Bring back Rob Lyon who had this vision for us years ago ... and got booed off.

If Rob has had his fill ... then surely Screeny / Havvy / Loram would at least inspire some new direction.

Why oh why do we build teams in the Elite for other countries youth? Peterboro (mini Denmark at the start of the year) and Poole (mini Australia). Shame on Middlo and Co for dumping Howarth and replacing him with all his Aussies mates, mates.

Sheesh

Neil hasn't destroyed Eddies confidence, he's not a kid any more, he's big enough and ugly enough to handle it. So tell me what Mark Screeny Havvy Rosco uncle tom cobbly or Rob Lyon who's already been tried can do better than Neil with what Neil has at his disposal. At least Neil is trying something different, and i will be very interseted to see how Bridger reacts to this call up.. its in his hands.

A medal is a medal, and you can only beat what is in front of you.

I agree that the vision should be the future and we need to be pushing the likes of Cook/Worrall NOW however in the unlikely event we do win on Thursday then why shouldnt we go for a rostrum place?

We know we aren't going to win now or in the near future but at least Bridger and Barker are still trying to improve.

So Worrall Auty, are not? a fag paper between all those no more.

Worrall i already said needs pushing now.

Auty i agree is in the same bracket but he hasn't kicked on his career EL wise this season whereas Cook and Worrall have, so way more than fag paper between them. How bout a couple box of 200`s?

Howarth is still progressing and i would bracket him fag paper wise to Auty. I would still pick Howarth over Auty tho.

Well i respect your opinion Brum as always, but Worrall has done well ( more so after a broken leg) but will his EL average be much better than Auty? Who knows did Auty beat Worrall twice the other night ( from the back)! Howarth i like and was treated shabbily at Poole but he is not up to the level of those two yet.

We arnt good enough bar tai, it's as simple as that, I agree in putting barker in but would have had king instead of Bridger.... It's ok saying cook, Worrall need experience but the simple fact is they are not good enough yet at that level, throwing them in at the deepend just makes them look silly and also rans... Cook is a big fish in a small pond in PL, he's made giant strides, but they way forward and to gain experience is in test matches etc, where they arnt exposed as mych...but the Bspa or team gb don't do this no more... in speedway you drop the clutch and ride for laps wherever your racing, the basics don't change... If your in it, you try to win it even if we have little chance, cook is better than barker week in week out..... But barkers experience counts for a hell of alot IMO and he's not fazed by the occasion which I feel cook was.... Goodluck lads.... We have nothing to fear as man for man we are better or as good as Australia's 4.

auty has stood still for years and will never be international class IMO.

From under 15s to conference now a top 10 PL rider and doing well anough in the EL.Not everybody progresses at the same rate not saying he ever will how many predicted Doyle would be where he is now not many on here did. Also to do what Cook has done this year average over 11 is no mean feat in a competetive PL.Craig just needs laps he will come back stronger the funny thing is by dropping Craig now might be more longterm damaging for him than scoring 0 and on the night being totally inept. at the end of the day it's a World Cup not some PL testimonial.... Weather he was fazed by the occasion or not I don't know, but he wasn't very good, and both him and Eddie deserve to be dropped, I'd rather die trying than wondering what if.

Thats the reason he will struggle to get to the Top.Good riders are very consistent at starting and there is nothing in front slowing them down.

You can learn gating but you can't learn to pass!

He has something to work with and that's the ability to generate speed, His style is similar to a raw Michael Jepsen Jensen

Sidney, so nice to have a bit of respect on the forum ;)

Likewise i can see where you are coming from in comparison.

However Auty has had 2 or 3 full seasons at EL (albeit held up in progression by his parent club) so should be that much further along than either Worrall or Howarth, which he isn't.

I would imagine Worrall (less EL AND experience) will be slightly higher average wise both EL and PL than Auty which puts Auty much further behind.

Howarth is gaining experience slower but has looked decent in PL and EL action that i have seen him in, and agreed he did get a shoddy deal at Pole but then he is the wrong nationality!

Unfortunately due to the the duration of the races there is not enough time for him to generate that speed you talk about.
