Woz01
Lets just think, a team of Tai, Harris, Nicholls and King would probably have made the final so who do we blame for that side not to be named? The bspa and middlo the buck stops with them.
jimmy jimmy
And the Elite League promoters will sign up the Latvians, and then use the Aussies as guests when they aren't available

JT
Comical in the end. We only have one rider anywhere near world class. Harris still thinks he is, but he hasn't been since about 2010 and tonight surely kills any chance of him getting a series Wild Card for 2014. I bet BSI are distraught. Bridger was better than Barker, but that's not saying much. Hancock was sublime, Fisher rode out of his skin and surely Bogdanovs and Puodzuks will get offers from British promoters soon? G the Bee
Last. Beaten by Latvia and the USA. Disgusting. But there was an air of inevitability to it. The fact is, we were (barely) a two man team tonight. On a night where other EL second strings such as Fisher, Woodward and (although he is number 1 for Bham at the moment) Doyle raised their game, Bridger and Barker were found wanting. All too predictably in my opinion. I do feel for Middlo to an extent. The fact is, we have one world class rider now and one other who (without wanting to sound cruel) whilst still able to mix it has been on the slide for three seasons now. However, he did no favours with his team selections over this week and surely it is time for him to fall on his sword. He picks Kennett, to obvious consternation from the masses, but then shows no faith in his selection during the meeting. He picks a rider for the future in Cook, then promptly drops him. He brings in two other riders who croak big time against opposition which was hardly (with the exception of a couple of riders) the cream of international speedway. As I said, I feel for Neil a little, and certainly any new manager is hardly going to have an abundance of world class riders to pick, but perhaps it's simply time for a new broom so that perhaps, for once, Team GB might punch above its weight like a number of other riders did tonight.

Den676
I used to be a keen speedway fan from the 60's until 20 odd years ago. With speedway on Eurosport I thought I might have a look and was staggered to find GB riders are rubbish except maybe a couple. Why is this? Too many foreign riders? Don't they have winter training schools any more?

mr putin
The really sad thing is that Latvia is a country with a population of only 2 million for God's sake- and they made Team GB look stupid. Until we accept that we need to work- and work bloomin hard, we will never get better, only worse. It was criminal to bring Cook in, then drop him after Monday. If we want to progress, we need to give guys like him every support possible, not just slap him in the face.
pandorum
Most interesting thing is next years seedings. Czech Rep 4th USA 5th Latvia 6th Means us, Sweden and Russia go through the qualifiers. Some say that will be sorted next year but apart from Sweden who had injuries why should it. And plenty of countries have had bad luck with injuries. Latvia and the USA EARNED their seedings. Should make things interesting next year Edited July 18, 2013 by pandorum
dorset delight
Nothing short of a disgrace from 'Great' Britain ..absolutley abominable performance from most of the team including the management..im a Middlo liker generally but ive seen enough evidence from him to suggest it is time to go and for the B.S.P.A to stop fannying around and get Rosco on to the job...he wouldnt p**s about with the likes of Bridger and Barker and im pretty sure he would be far more passionate about trying to instill a winning and fighting mentality into some of those clowns than Neil currently does..just my opinion altho im sure Starman and co will attempt to shoot me down and back Middlo up Btw if i could swear on here by god i F*%&$NG would!!! Yes i agree let's have Middlo out.Bring Rosco in let's see if he can do any better with the riders at his disposal. I think we all know the answer to that one................ Not going to happen Hs,we are a strictly third rate nation now with only one world class rider.

RPNY
Why do all the team GB riders (Tai aside) always fail to get the correct set ups & make bad decisions on track in these big meetings?? Lot of GB riders make noise about riding then get beaten by a hugely under strenght Aussie & US teams? In all honesty I'm not a Middleditch fan but can we really blame him? The answer is no, unless Scotty was riding there was no chance we were winning tonight (And even then it was no garauntee) We just a dont have the strength in depth and b they dont step up to the plate when selected anyway. Other then Rico, Scotty, Tai & Bomber, we've had NO riders that were capable of raising their game. And yet people like Woodward, Doyle, Fisher etc can. Worrying really.
stratton
Bryan Robson didn't have the likes of twitter at his disposal, he may well have "had a go". Anyway, heat 13, lets give him a chance. Well there you go, happy now? So easy now in hindsight, Barker should not even had been in it NW, i like him but he has had chances felt so sorry for him tonightSteve Brum said he would pick Howarth over Auty is harsh tonight Ritchie and Josh would of done better than Barker and Brum should no more than me because he has seen them more on a regular basis.! Why does everyone miss the point, if the BSPA don't invest in the youngsters, then their is no future. The likes of Worrall, Birks and Lambert etc have made a mark, despite, not because of the BSPA.. As for Middlo, he is probably the bluntest knife in the rack, couple that with Poole's attitude to British riders and what have you got.. Tonight..

Tonight.. bang on... these young lads should be riding test matches both home and abroad against young poles, swedes, danes, russians (latvians!) etc to show them exactly what the actual level is that they really need to aspire to... too many young english riders drive round in a sponsored van with 'international speedway rider' written on it without ever knowing never mind earning the true meaning of the accolade... obviously though test series' and a joined up development plan costs money therefore nothing will change... bluebee
Why do all the team GB riders (Tai aside) always fail to get the correct set ups & make bad decisions on track in these big meetings?? A good point and until we get to the bottom of it there will be no improvement. I'm sure Cook tried - and Kennett and Barker and Bridger - but they were SLOW!!! When Barker rode Harris's bike there was a definite improvement. Is it down to a lack of investment by the riders? Surely the BSPA should be able to set up an advisory team together to help British riders get the right equipment. Next year have 2 experienced riders and get a group of promising youngsters together. Make it clear that the youngsters get a place only for experience. It's not a right! Stay off twitter, learn from the opportunity, be a part of a project to bring British youngsters on to a world stage.
