Brits Not Supporting Team Gb

Recommended Posts

It's all part of the master plan! Sending Middlo to work with the Danes next year and Havvy with the Poles. Team GB (also agree, why not just Great Britain - technically they're UK too as anyone from NI could ride for them) cant fail to win then!

It is the representative team of the ACU and the ACU have no jurisdiction in Northern Ireland so no Paddy's in team GB yet!!!!

Its disappointing when British fans support other countries but each to their own, and if its because they are cheesed off at the way the sport is run in the UK and the way team GB has gone backwards as a result you can't really blame them in all honesty.

I've never really done the whole favourite rider thing since Henka moved on from Lynn twenty years ago but many do and if their favourites ride for another nation and they don't really like any of team GB then you can see why they would support the other country. Its a great pity though.

Weird really Bagpuss i loved all the Brits Ashby,Wilson( both) Louis SImmo, Mort, pc , Lee,Carter Wigg, Tatum, Evitts But alot of my favourites were foreign riders on the whole more so than the Brits Henka took over from Bettsey and Mike what a talent he was.

Fair enough, I always thought NI riders had a choice of GB or Ireland. Bit messed up if you ask me! They're cheering for GB in the Olympics, have out flag and then when it comes to motor racing we're the enemy!

Should Norway ever get a team back on track, I'd support them no matter what. But since they would never qualify, I'd root for one of the reminding teams, after Norway would be out. All the way to the final. If there's no one to cheer for, what's the point in watching? I like NKI and Kildeman as riders, but would never root for Denmark over Norway. But first we've got to get a team...

So have we my friend, so have we...

Reidar Eide should have been put to stud when he finished riding, you would have a cracking team for many generations, they don't make them like him any more, tough competitor.

Just out of interest, did he and Dag Lovas ever get close to an international pairs title? I'm sure they would have made quite a formidable pairing when both on song, surely their careers overlapped while Reidar was still going well, early 70's?

Eide, Lovaas, both were world class like you said not at the same time! Gunnestad again was exciting never quite fulfilled.

Aren't there some young Gunnestads coming through, along with others??

It's not looking great.Glenn Moi looked quite promising on 80cc,but struggled a bit in the Danish 1st division this season and i think has dropped down to the 2nd division.I did see the 80cc YGT final and the best non Danish rider was a norwegian guy who looked pretty good and i see he finished 7th in the 80cc Nordic Final a few days ago as well. But Norway would really struggle to put together a team that could compete with the lesser nations at the moment imo

Eide and Lovaas' careers certainly did overlap - what on earth the other chap is on about I don't know.

Eide represented Norway in the Pairs almost every year of the seventies with various others.

Dag Lovaas partnered him in 1973, 1974 and 1976

Norway never reached the Final in all that time EXCEPT in 1973 when Eide and Lovaas got third place at the Poole Semi and then came a good fifth in the Final in Sweden.

Thanks for that, was sure they would have rode together at some point, I recall Dag Lovaas was fast, used to get very low on the bends, bit like Dave Gifford in riding style maybe, certainly distinctive.

Odd Fossengen, had forgotten all about him Sidney, blue leathers rings a bell with me, could be wrong, did he ride for Poole?

Gunnestad/Kyllingstad got bronze in the -91 pairs final.

Glenn Moi and Jarle Skjæveland are good prospects for the future, and Sundvor earlier mentioned was the best non-dane in the YGT this year. I hope they'll get the right backing, sponsors and vital experience outside Norway. Right now a team would be Mikke Bjerk, the Gunnestad brothers and Rune Sola. There are lesser speedway nations, as our own, to compete against, and as long as the skill is leveled there is exitement and entertainment. But alas, never any funding.

Back to topic, I'd support any Norwegian team, being from that country.

Any chance Rune could revert back to the land of his birth now that his Polish international and GP journies seem to be over?

I would't mind him flying his true colours as I believe he's still got some years left in him. However I doubt he'll go back as there is absolutely nothing exept personal enjoyment to haul here.

I am English and could not give a rats arce about Wales, Scotland or Ireland. I feel no real need to show how proud I am of being from where I am from, especially not with some impossible mathematic figure, and leave such nonsense to Americans.

Would I like the Brit lads to win the WTC? Of Course. Will they? Not a chance in hell.

I wanted the Russians to win as I like them.

Will I be supporting GB from my computer chair this evening? Of Course. I always do.

The country has not gone to pot in the slightest. People cheer for their favourites.

I feel no pride at some cricketers that won some daft cricket match as I don't like cricket and could not care less about some scotch bloke who won a tennis match. I don't give a crap about our stupid national anthem and the bunch of worthless parasites it kisses the arces of.

Does that make me less English than someone who backs the speedway team '100 million percent'?

Of course it doesn't.

We English don't feel the need to show how patriotic we are.............. except of course those who do.

Which sums us up rather well. :)

English, you claim, then in your next sentence you call the Team GB,,Brits Lads, seems to me Lulutiger may have a point.
