salty
To be honest the thing that turns me off is the jingoistic approach of the media. Every (football) World Cup the media saturate us with a load of pro-English propoganda, so when they inevitably lose on penalties there is a sense of relief that we are going to be spared the kind of garbage that the red tops specialise in. Speedway, nowhere near so bad, but I hope Nigel and Kelvin tone it down a bit tonight.
TheReturn
Nothing wrong with cheering for your favourite riders, but surely you should primarily supporting your nation? I remember the last ever World Final (94 in Vojens for those that forgot) and I had gone across with some friends from Long Eaton, partly because Jan Staechmann had made the final. I of course gave Jan a big cheer when he came out, but at the same time I was waving the Union Jack flag with pride in the vague hope that it might inspire Loram or Louis onto success that day. Strange day, sitting next to us on that grassy bank at Vojens was Andy Smith, then as the meeting went on, armed police came onto the track because of some issue on the far side where the Polish fans were. LagutaRacingFan
Bottom line is fans can support who they want. We live in a multi-cultural society.
TheReturn
Bottom line is fans can support who they want. We live in a multi-cultural society. Indeed they can. But not sure those fans that cheer for other nations have a right to be critical of their own national team when they inevitably fail. It's like 'We want you to do better and improve, but we won't be cheering you on until you do, we will cheer the opposition on'.
MattK
Isn't it a bit strange that people are supposed to find an affinity with other people who were born within an arbitrary boundary created hundreds of year ago?
Mad Mitch
We know that the present teams riders are english but if they are riding for GB they have my support. Keep calling them Engerlund and I,ll be strugling to cheer them on I used to support them when the team had only a token GB rider, the rest were antipodean. I,d prefer they were 2nd here tonight as its better to practice on thursday at the playoff. Time to give our Cookie and crew a few goes at the Marketa before meeting Poland Sat night. david2905
I'm supporting Denmark as they have more Peterborough origins. Club over country for me any day, I feel no emotional attachment to Woffinden,Harris,Cook or Kennett. That's rich coming from someone who supports Peterborough or Poole depending what day of the week it is
Daniel Smith
GB all the way in International events. Just a thought though, most of the Danish, US & Swedish flags being waved yesterday & Twitter comments of supporting other nations came from young girls & women. Is it as simple as the chicks dig the di, well ya know what I'm saying
LagutaRacingFan
The bottom line is that Team GB is full of riders with the arrogance of Darcy Ward but sadly for them, Their riding ability is nowhere near Darcy Ward. Cook - Spoilt brat moaning about being dropped after a dreadful performance Barker - British bulldog spirit yet all the Aussies hate him and now Cook's had enough of him, Same with Woffinden; Something's up! Bridger - The British Troy Batchelor but miles behind Troy in riding ability. Harris is probably the only down to earth guy in the team with Tai a close 2nd. It's no wonder Team GB fans are sick of this side, Give us nice guys like Richard Lawson in the side.. Not these over-rated Madonnas. On all the Poole threads you 'claim' that you're a Poole Pirates supporter...and before I go, how's the love affair (read fantasy) triangle with MJJ and THJ going???
Midland Red
Why on earth do we have to have this wretched title "Team GB" AFAIK the teams at Kings Lynn were : Denmark, Australia, United States of America, and . . . . . Great Britain It's Great Britain, folks, not Team GB!
Trees
There's always been British fans who support the country of their fav rider, it had to be 90% of the crowd at Lynn were TeamGB fans though!!! B-)
jim3751
I watched both recorded meetings on the same day and having seen the competition devalued by the depleted Russian team I lost interest. But I chose Australia in the 1st match simply because of Jason Doyles's performance. Having been a severe critic in the past due to his "tactics" i thought he came through in international company pretty well. Pity about Davey Watt so will he keep his place? As for Team GB (or whatever we're called) I don't mind giving new riders a chance but Craig Cook was simply out of his depth and Edward is always full of enthusiasm but obviously out of form. So when the outcome became obvious I went for the underdog. USA. As far as the GB management is concerned I thought the treatment of Kennett was appalling. No words of comfort from the manager who picked him - just a word from Harris.
stevebrum
Craig Cook was simply out of his depth Had a couple of decent battles and scored 4 points, so not out of his depth. A step to far too soon maybe.

The Know
Its a shame really we dont have a team to fight at the top level, down to british promoters and the bspa. No forward thinking or planning for years, but there you go. Never mind maybe God will step in on our side with Middlo, Come on you BRITS.
SCB
It even stretches to some Brit`s actually supporting and working for the Yanks-Did you see the "main man " on Monday. It's all part of the master plan! Sending Middlo to work with the Danes next year and Havvy with the Poles. Team GB (also agree, why not just Great Britain - technically they're UK too as anyone from NI could ride for them) cant fail to win then! pugwash
Why should anyone have any affliation with Great Britain? it's been a downhill ride in this country since Bobby Moore lifted the World Cup. We've been shafted by goverments, politicians, councillors, lord mayors, union leaders, lawyers, social security scoungers, property developers, the EU, the BBC, the BSPA. There's nothing left to be proud of. Still I'll be rooting for team GB i suppose.
