Rye House, the Premier League Champions from 2005 & 2007, are suffering an injury-hit campaign and are currently without No 1 Oliver Allen and rising star Jason Garrity. On Friday, Somerset’s Josh Grajczonek will guest in place of Allen, while Swede Pontus Aspgren is a temporary replacement for Garrity. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Rye House are suffering a terrible season. They’ve had all sorts of injury problems. We’ve got to capitalise on that and make sure we score all three points on Friday night. “However, we won’t be underestimating the Rockets. Josh Grajczonek is a quality guest – we know how well he rode around here last time he was here with Somerset. “We used Jason Bunyan several times as a guest in 2012, and we know he can also be a handful around the Eddie Wright Raceway. Add in Tyson Nelson, and also Simon Lambert at reserve, who rode for the Scorpions for a couple of seasons, and Rye House do have several riders who know the best way around here. “But if we ride to our capabilities, I believe we’re fully capable of taking the three league points. And that’s what we really need – all three league points.” In order to gain all three Premier League points, the Scorpions must defeat Rye House by seven race points or more. Another glorious day of sunny weather is predicted for Friday, with temperatures in excess of 25 degrees Celsius. Such weather, although massively welcome, means hard work for Godfrey plus track men Graham Trollope and John Priestley. Godfrey added: “It’s nice for the fans to be able to come along and enjoy the speedway in the sunshine. “But it does present a challenge to the track team, in getting enough water into the track, and then getting the track to dry in time. “Without wanting to blow our own trumpet too much, but we did a great job with the track last Friday for the Newcastle meeting. “The previous two Fridays we’d had plenty of rain during the day, and natural watering is great for the track. Last Friday we had to do all the watering ourselves. There’s always an anxious time in the afternoon, when you think the track is maybe not drying as quickly as you’d expected. “But the end result last Friday against Newcastle was a track on which we staged a cracking meeting. “We’re always looking to prepare the best possible track at the Eddie Wright Raceway. We’re proud to have won the accolade of best track in the Premier League on several occasions, including last season.” The Scorpions complete the weekend by travelling to Peterborough on Sunday for the Premier League Fours. The club will be represented by the quartet of Josh Auty (last week’s last-heat hero against Newcastle), Ashley Birks, David Howe and Thomas Jørgensen, with Michael Palm Toft at reserve. But are we going for a record of losing matches when the opponent is 10 or more behind. The season was almost re-ignited, getting harder to find those three away wins to make up for the home losses. The ridiculous tactical rule which allows a home team who've been dominated to get back into the meeting done us up like a kipper. A rule that's gotta be looked at during the winter Saying that, it was a fabulous speedway meeting with close racing and passing a plenty. Much better from Kasper tonight. Mellgren was superb until heat 15 and Nelson was scraping the boards providing lots of thrills. Pontus was more subdued than last night. His first race fall didn't help his score. Couple of good rides for Jason B too. Josh didn't look as dominant as last night. Poor Simon was in the wars with a couple of falls, neither were his fault. I think Rob Godfrey would quite like to get rid of the tactical ride. Absolutely amazing conclusion to the meeting last night - racing like that is what speedway is all about. Forget all those Polish tracks - the best racetrack in the world is in Scunthorpe. We were standing pretty close to the stand on the first bend. Didn't notice there wasn't anyone filming until you mentioned it. It's usually Bob Tasker filming isn't it? Wonder why it wasn't covered?
