Berwick V Redcar (13 July - Pl)

Recommended Posts

Questions must be being asked tonight as to how you lead a meeting by eight after eight races, and seven after thirteen races and still end up losing.Great meeting to watch mind and all credit to Redcar on their win but geez how many times do Berwick have to faulter at before they learn.

Some positives for Berwick even in defeat, the return for Ashworth was steady if unspectacular,Bellego continues his good form as does Smith, and again tonight Paul Starke scored more that could be ever expected of him.Sadly the same cannott be said for Robin Aspegren,I found his performance tonight poor and totally unacceptable, even accepting a fall and exclusion in his third ride, his two point score could be considered the main reason for this defeat and there must come a point where his air fares and other expenses out way his contribution to the team at home and away for most of this season.

For Redcar Micky Dyer was outstanding,Berwick must be kicking themselves if they passed up signing him last close season,Skidmore was always in and around things ans was the Redcar hero in Ht15,Ostergaard had quite an odd night, two good gates and race wins and two poor rides with no points.

To sum up,an enjoyable meeting to watch even if it leaves me frustrated by another home defeat.

Screm, this is one of those rare occasions where I agree with you 100%.

It was also good to see the track in suck good condition: makes a mock of Taffy's earlier posts.

Aspergren was dismal tonight.

Starke is improving massively. A great meeting from him.

Despite his excellent performance, our number 3 ensured we were always going to struggle to win this.

Great to see Ricky back.

Not for the first time we seem to lack that killer instinct, when you have a team down and only a few races to go the good teams dont let them back,Berwick do.Take nothing away from Redcar, they must be celebrating tonight, but IMO this is a meeting Berwick should not have lost.

Fact

Where do we go from here?

We ask the man at the top why he refused to sign Dyer at the end of last season we ask the manager why he did not insist that we sign Dyer at the end of the season we ask both of them if they have any idea about building a speedway team and we ask Robin what he is playing at new engine supposedly for UK well think the first thing he needs to do is ask for his money back. Beaten by a better team yes but some woeful performances from some

The non signing of Dyer is a mystery,as soon as it became known that Edinburgh werent going to use him Berwick shouldve been in pole position.Dyer himself said in last nights programme that joining Berwick was the best thing he did last season,so a return wouldve been on if it were up to the rider.

Id pick out your point about building a tea,IMO out teams over the last few seasons have looked capable of doing the business, sadly it could be argued that our promotion and/or management are not getting the best out of those riders.

Dyer looked a class act even in his early days at Dudley when I watched him. He has taken time to settle to Premier League and it reminds you of a certain Wayne Brown when he joined Berwick all those years ago. Redcar are reaping the rewards now and because of Dyer are up at top of league and in Cup semi.

Must congratulate Paul on his score [more of the same please] Ashley for his effort Kozza and David for their great entertainment Matty solid apart from ht 14 Ricky who is obviously not up to speed yet .Robin absolutely hopeless agree with Screm about costs incurred with him not the same rider as last year.

Our season has just not started and I for one am already looking forward to the winter months as we set about rebuilding our side once again after another false dawn.

Let's not cover old ground here, its been widely accepted that we should have signed Micky instead of Alex. We need to move on and look to the future.

We need to have a solid team for next year with decent reserves. Paul is making great progress and I would love to see us stick by him next year but in an ideal world he needs a 4.5-5 point man alongside him to take the pressure away and allow him to continue his development.

A team headed up by Seb and Kozza with a middle order of David, Matty and Micky Dyer and say a Lewis Kerr alongside Paul at reserve would do nicely for me!

At least we got racesuits, who cares what we do on track as long as we look smart. Edberg definitely was the correct choice over Dyer, thats been proven.

Exellent result for the Bears.

I'd have said it was 50-50 pre-season who would be best with Edberg and Dyer. I don't remember reading pre-season that Berwick have made the wrong choice, or that Dyer would improve so much. To late now that the horse has bolted.

Go back to the Berwick 2013 thread and you'll see numerous people posted what a bad move it was to take Edberg rather than Dyer, lots of us thought it was a bad move.

From the time the Bandits named their team in December until a wheel was turned Dyer is mentioned once. Only when the season started did you realise the goof. Sorry but its sour grapes.

It's been a funny season on the line-up side of things, but that can be said for a lot of teams.

Personally, I'd like to see averages binned, and a squad system introduced.

Now, as far as Saturday goes. Good fightback from the Bears, but we were let down at number 3.

Wilko looked to be the Bears' big dangerman: but Starkey soon extinguished that threat.

Great to see him improving in leaps and bounds, and interacts with the crowd well too.

He's quickly becoming a Bandits' favourite :)

Once again, Matty Wethers puts in another solid score, we could have done with a better result in heat 14, but he more than did his job on the night.

For the rest of this season I'd like to see Ricky get a good run and get his form back ready for the start of next year, and get him doubled-up next season too.
