Rye House Camber

Recommended Posts

Paid my first visit of the year to Rye on Saturday and watched from the first bend near the pits.

I couldn't believe the amount of adverse camber on that bend.

I know there has always been a camber but this looked about a 3 foot drop and it seemed much nearer the middle of the track than I remember though I have tended to watch mostly from the home straight in the past. having said that, my previous visit was last year and we watched from the seating between bends 1 & 2.

Has it got bigger?

Why is it there?

Can't it be reduced a bit?

It looks like it reduces the effective width of bends 1 & 2 by nearly 50% and so unless you have a lightning start from gate 4 you are always going to struggle.

Just asking!!!

I was told by a member of the track staff (more of a lecture really) that it helps to slow a rider down if they should come a cropper on the first bend. Didn't believe it then, and still don't believe it now

Is that not where Josh came off the other week against the Rebels.

Surely they'd go faster as they drop off the other side of it? :/

I didn't wanna argue with him. He was rather irate as I'd posted a week earlier criticising the track prep, which he'd taken exception to, seeking me out to berate me in the Tempstand.

think this is the only home track advantage rye have, apart from it being a small track.

Home track advantage? Have you seen our results this year?

It would seem Shadders you are about as popular as a fart in a space suit these days at Hoddesdon. Is it your Sparkling Personality that does it ?

That was last year.

Always seemed to me in the past that if they went over it they got sucked into the fence.

Is it higher/wider now than in previous years?

Had a similar problem at Blackbird Road, around 1980 (yes I'm that old) only half the track was of any use, go over the camber and a drift to the fence was a certainty. Previously we had a great track, rubbish results though! I complained about it at the time but it made no difference, so I went to Long Eaton.

i cannot believe that it's meant to slow you down, in my experience more banking keeps you away from the fence and more dirt slows you down, adverse camber sends you ouit to the fence. So I guess you do slow down eventually, but not in a nice way.

I thought it was bollo*k$ then and I still do now.
