Berwick V Scunthorpe (6 July: Pl)

Recommended Posts

Kozza scored paid twelve in El tonight at Coventry!

Also, told tonight -- Ricky Ashworth will ride in second half tomorrow, and (if no ill-effects) will return to Berwick team next week.

Kozza was Poole's MOTM last night. Looked really good.

If it is true that Kennett misses tonight due to illness then let us all hope he recovers from his ailment asap,at least to take his place in the SWC next week. Of course some may look at this as a tad suspicious, here we have Ricky Ashworth on the brink, the cusp the edge of hopefully making a track return, only to find Kennett layed low with illness, though giving his performance the other night at Birmingham something does seem to be up with our No1.Im sure in the next hour or two the club will clear up matters for us all.

Where do these rumours come from? Barker could never have guested as he was booked in at Rye House, and as he was carted off at Edinburgh with a suspected broken leg he presumably won't be doing that, either.

Edward Kennett is riding tonight, although if Ricky comes through his practice session in the second half without ill-effect, the team would be changed back -- as has always been promised -- for next weekend, I would say.

Weather looks wunnerful, teams look evenly matched. Gonna be a good one!

If Lady Luck gets Ricky through this then what would happen with our 4s team? Just automatic swap Eddie for Ricky?

Yes, if Bandits changed 1-7 early next week, Ricky would presumably take over at No 1. Averages would still be high enough to qualify the team (unlike when Simon Stead dropped out at Sheffield without a replacement).

If Ricky felt he wasn't ready yet after his run-out tonight, then nothing changes.

I found last nights meeting to long drawn out, intermitent and for the most part just plain boring, that boredom was interrupted only by a couple of thrilling rides by Kozza Smith inparticularly in Ht11 where he caught Jorgensen right on the line just as it looked Scunthorpe were on for an 8-1,Bellego to made a couple of decent passes and again was probably Berwicks best rider on the night. The flow of the meeting wasnt help either by the riders from both teams, though mainly Scunthorpe, jumping at the starts and a referee who seemed to have difficulty in finding the two minute button, many times we were sat looking at an empty track having to listen to Mr Barries witterings.

Decent night for most of the home side, once again Kewis Kerr showed a liking for Shielfield,Aspegren looked good and was robbed of a race win in Ht3 after his chain gave out.Kennetts last meeting was nothing to right home about, its up for arguement whether or not his signing has been a success on or off track,Im sure hes done his best though for me Im quite happy to see Ashworth back.

Josh Auty was Scunthorpes best rider but sadly for him there was no back up for him,Toft deserved more for his efforts though those efforts werent helped after he was knock off by his teamate Ashley Birks who clearly has read the team riding manual.David Howe looked good in his first ride, but tailed off after that, though crashing in his third ride didnt help.

Thered seemed a bit of a problem with the track last night on the exit of turn two, with riders hitting grip and lifting,it claimed David Howe and it caused Lewis Blackbird to lift a collect Berwicks guest Kerr, all thankfully all ok but its something that needs addressed, which Im sure it will be.

I found myself a little bit underwhelmed or even disappointed after last nights meeting possibly due to all the re runs and various stoppages , what had the makings of a decent match turned into a bore off .The Scorpions were pretty much a disappointment Josh Auty being the only rider worth a mention . For Berwick , Kozza was the pick of the bunch and only a missed gate in heat 1 probably stopped David B from probably getting a paid max , Edward Kennett didn't look like a rider who you would pin your world cup hopes on I can only hope his form improves before the Kings Lynn semi . As for the problems on the exit of bend two , this as been an issue for a number of seasons now with quite a few riders coming to grief there in the past. Just as an afterthought will the return of Ricky be the only team change ? or will there be another rider coming in ?

It was pretty drawn out, for various reasons, but I wasn't bored. There is always plenty of banter to be had on the 3rd bend when there is stoppages.

I do still much prefer when we whizz through meetings, though, as is the norm.

I think what we saw was the combination of tricky (not difficult) track conditions coupled with bikes that just do not respond like they used to pre-new silencer introduction.

Something has to be done about the bikes in particular, it is clearly a problem.

There was plenty of incident in the meeting, so I think it is unfair to call it boring.

I too am delighted that Ricky is coming back. Kennett kind of did the job, but having only seen him at Shielfield he didn't look like he has progressed from his previous PL form.

Nothing to get excited about that is for sure.

I also wonder if there will be just one change, or more?

The Kennet signing turned out to be an expensive waste of time by the looks of it,especially for a club always moaning about running cost

To be fair to Kennett his short career with Berwick has been very stop start as we have have had quite a few free saturdays of late, though him going off to try the GP Qualifiers didnt help.
