New Science
i still think the old tac sub rule of being 6 behind was fine and added to the excitement of a meeting....no gimmicks, no double points but just a genuine ride for genuine points.....a number 1 coming in to heat 8 and losing , which did happen, was great excitement.....i had no problem with that rule....i do have problems with the double points tactical though. if you want speedway to a totally fair team sport then just have every rider complete their programmed rides...no tacticals and no reserve rides...that is the only way it would be a totally fair team sport as one of the biggest advantages a team has always has is having a quality reserve able to take 6 or 7 rides a night.......i personally have no problem with benefitting from a quality reserve myself but it could be seen as being as unfair as the tactical sub rule if you wanted ..a rider taking 2 rides while another takes 7. The people who crave the return of the tactical substitute rule would be the first to complain if for example building up a 10 point lead against Poole then were on the end of three 5-1's in a row in the last 3 heats courtesy of Holder and Ward to lose by 2,how is that fair. The old tactical substitute rule encourages top heavy teams and reduces the impact of a genuine 1-7 team.,at least with the double point rule riders have to race against opponents of similar ability ,not simply gatecrashing heats 8 and 14,the 2 weakest heats in the meeting.

dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
I saw it happen to Belle Vue courtesy of Ermolenko and Correy in Manchester in the early 90's That same Wolves duo turned over Ipswich in similar fashion. I seem to remember they scored 39 between them in a 45-44 win at Foxhall using both r/r and t/s rides!
Mad Potter 2
Been thinking of ways to get rid of Guests & RR( I know it hurts). Put all the riders into a pool( not full of water ). Each Team Manager & Promoter at the beginning of the season decides what averages they would like to use for their 1 to 7 e.g. No 1 - 9.58 No 2 - 8.20 down to No. 7 to meet the points limit. Then say 2 weeks before a meeting they pick riders which have averages on or below this from the pool. Can only use the same rider 5 time at home & 5 times away per season. No guests no RR. Daft isn’t it the whole pool of riders is your team.

miadfa8
Why not change the race format as follows: 1. Programmed rides up to and including heat 11are the same. 2. All riders must have taken a minimum of three rides by heat 11. 3. The pairings for heats 12 -15 are at the team manager's discretion with all riders having to take a minimum of one ride. 4. Only one rider permitting to ride twice in heats 12 -15 (rider repalcements excepted) and must not ride in consecutive heats. 5. The home team must declare their pairing's first for heats 12 -15. 6. Reserves can only take a maximum of six rides. 7. The tactical rides are only allowed up to heat 11. 8. Top three averaged riders ride at 1, 3 and 5. This would certainly sort out the tactical nous of team managers and would also generate some interest for those on the terraces as well.
