hewittspeedway
With the kind permission of Leicester Speedway and much appreciated help from Martin Widman, we have resurrected the Mick Spiers Memorial Trophy meeting. Mick sadly passed away as a result of a speedway racing accident in 1983. The meeting will be held on Sunday 25th Aug 2013 at Leicester speedway. This date coincides with the exact date of the 30th anniversary of Mick`s accident and we feel this will be a fitting tribute to Mick. The trophy will be contested in the 2nd half and will feature the Long Eaton Invaders V a Mick Spiers` Leicester Lion Cubs select. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, spread the word and get as many fans as possible, young or old, to come along and remember our dear friend Mick https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/s403x403/1010030_604245546266418_158963660_n.jpg
TheReturn
Fantastic and wish you all well with this. I was back in Long Eaton today, and for the first time in at least 10 years I happened to drive down Station Road, and such a sad view to see houses in an already crowded area for houses, and nothing to indicate there was once a speedway track there. Great Central
Last week the final piece of the jigsaw was put in place when Jean Hubbard, Mick's sister received the Memorial trophy through the post being delivered from the safe hands of its custodian for many years, Alison Cross. With the teams just about finalised, sponsors arranged and trophies purchased, the meeting goes ahead on Sunday after the Leicester v Berwick PL meeting and will consist of a 6 heat MDL style team meeting followed by two individual heats to determine the winner of the trophy. Tremendous support has been received from the Leicester promotion to enable this meeting to go ahead on the 30th Anniversary of Mick's untimely death and with the support of Darrin Hewitt, Steve Spiers and Jean who have worked hard to pull it all together, it is hoped to provide a fitting tribute to Mick.
