Don't be disappointed...get in quickly!

Is that a dodgy site? It doesn't look like the normal one!

Whilst it's a good meeting prices are a rip off.

The NME site is presumably part of the company who own New Musical Express. Here's more infor on NME

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NME

I just found the site when I was searching for more info on a possible 2014 USA Grand Prix/

It cost over 20 quid to go to osdsal for the world final in 1985!

29 quid is about the same as i paid to go to the nz gp this year and i think its great value

Actually not true.

Standing tickets at Odsal were £7.50 and seats (less than 5000) in the Stand were £15, £17.50 and £20. Nothing over that.

I'm not decrying your point on the value you had at Western Springs as £29 sounds a decent price.

I presume market forces led Mr Buckley to set the prices keenly.

But the vast majority at the 85 Final had £1 change from a tenner after paying to get in and buying a programme.

Prices for cardiff are not a rip off. £29 for a great seat and a great venue.

Rip off given these cheap tickets cost £19 a few years go!

I seem to remember the cheapest tickets for the 1990 World Final at Bradford were GBP 17.50, and that was considered quite a hike at the time.

Some good comments but the 1985 Odsal-staged World Final was 28 years ago. Money values have moved on a little since then - and riders are paid far more than they were then.

And the £17.50 mentioned for the year 1990 in real terms now is £33.69.

It's all so long ago and things are different in every way that I cannot see the point of any such comparisons.

I was just correcting an inaccuracy.

You can compare prices over decades by many means, 'real' terms, relative to earnings, even in pints of beer.

But it's all pretty pointless.

That was the price then.

This is the price now.

I apologise. I was obviously wasting my time!

£29 for a ticket is not a bad price - about the third of a price for a rock concert.

But why do I have to rush to get a ticket for Cardiff, when I can wait 13 months and buy one on the day. ;)

All the best

Rob

No reason at all. In the original message I just wanted to highlight that thoughts are already centred on the 2014 British GP and ticket availability is already there for those who might be interested.

World Final was a one off, not shown live on TV and arguably the sport had bigger stars and following in the 80's. GP's are like a Circus, televised live and perhaps more of a show/event - but for me don't have the same sparkle of a one off Final.

I love the way the tickets are advertised with xx% saving on the previous years price - which had gone up by the same xx% the year before. Who are they trying to fool - saving my ar53!

My beef on prices isn't just the cheapest tickets, sat in the gods, are £29 but that all prices have increased to silly levels. I attended every Cardiff GP from 2002 to 2011 and initially sat lower tier near the starting gate (paying more than £29 a seat!) then moved to middle tier because of price hikes.

BSI have seen fit to increase prices in recent years despite world financial turmoil since 2007 - taking the P? To be fair I have reacted the same way to every other company who have tried to increase their prices in recent years - I shop around, look for better value or alternatives.

What do you think the price should be for the British GP ? baring in mind this years line up is the arguably the strongest ever, riding in one of Britains best stadia, with a roof,in a major city.

IMO the cheapest tickets should be £20 to £25 max with proportionate reductions on the higher value tickets. All BSI seem to have done is push fans in to the higher tiers with their price hikes, the result being more spaces at track/middle tier level than ever was the case!

Do BSI use the British GP to subsidise other GP events? Just a thought!

I think BSI only promote the Copenhagen and Gothenburg GPs themselves in addition to the British GP. I think Cardiff is certainly their money spinner, although it would seem unlikely they'd want to subsidise loss-making events on a ongoing basis.

This said, it must be questionable whether Gothenburg makes any money these days.
