New Rider For Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Just looked at the Tigers website and seen that our 'new rider' Adam Roynon appears to be down to ride at 5 tomorrow. The lads only had a few practice laps at Owlerton and that was several weeks ago and they're immediately putting pressure on him to perform!

Still they didn't think twice about putting young Albin in that position, and that worked well didn't it!

Can't believe the management make decisions like this when we've got Wells, who guested at number one for Berwick the other week and 'track specialist' Richard Hall, riding at 3 & 4.

Good luck Adam, the fans are all behind you and wish you well on your debut for the Tigers.

And scored 4+1, a paid win over an under power Paul Starke & the withdrawn Kozza Smith & a second in front of his team mate & the withdrawn Kozza Smith. Truly a majestic performance.

Agreed. It was a pathetic and lethargic display from one who should have tried better.

To accuse a rider of 'not trying his hardest' is a very strong one to make (especially if you weren't there).

Perhaps you should have said "done better." ?

Really a post from someone who should realise Adam is returning from a serious Head injury, and been out since the 1st week of the season, to expect him to hit the ground up and running really is to much to ask. Really those comments are totally unjustified, there is not many who try harder than Adam Roynon. I really wish it was possible for him to hit his pre injury form in the return, and ram the comments where they deserve to be.

Sorry but I think you missed the gist of my post, ok I know Wells didn't have the best of meetings at Berwick (by the way that's what I meant to put - "at Berwick", as he was riding for Plymouth!) but he was at number 1 & our management don't even consider putting him at 5, when it might be a better option than putting in a fella on his debut, heaping more pressure on him to perform.

I take it from your post that you aren't a big fan of Ricky Wells? Personally I wouldn't have missed him this year if he hadn't have signed, he's still not really got to grips with the track here & he doesn't seem to acknowledge the fans when they're getting behind him.

He does however seem to do well away on the more technical tracks and I'm sure all the Tigers fans will want him to come through with a maximum from 5 rides on Sunday evening!

Also hope that Lawson, Roynon, Hall & the rest, all have an outstanding meeting, otherwise can't see us making the final.

Who's talking about Adam. I am referring to the lack luster performance of Wells at Berwick, and yes I was there.

I agree with your points about Adam though.

I have no idea why Wells wouldn't be put at 5, but at the same time I have never seen him do anything that would suggest it would be anything other than a failure. Does he use the Premier League primarily for testing engines? If so, there's a waste bin outside the chip shop down the street from Shielfield Park he would have been advised to have used. As far as trying harder or otherwise is concerned, if that a demonstartion of busting his ass the God help Sheffield. As for being a fan or otherwise of Wells, when I've noticed him riding in a meeting I've attended, I've yet to see him do anything that would warrant forming an opinion. The latest in a long line of EL riders (how that works is another subject) who looks upon the PL as paid practice - but not well paid practice in his case.

Some interesting comments about Ricky Wells.

But lets look at the facts.

Lets look at the current form averages, not the rolling averages, but current form averages for meetings this season for Sheffield for League Cup, KOC and Premier League matches

Take Adam Roynon equation and look at the riders who have been the three heatleaders for Sheffield this season.

This is what the riders have averaged this season minus bonus points, home, away and overall.

Simon Stead; home 10.21, away 7.76, overall 8.90

Richard Hall; home 7.68, away 5.39, overall 6.80

Ricky Wells; home;7.26, away 8.47, overall 7.79

Personally I don't give a rats arse about what Ricky Wells does Guesting for Berwick Devils against Plymouth Bandits, I am interested in what he does for Sheffield speedway.

And if he he is using Sheffield simply to test engines and practice for his Elite club, then he must be some bloody good rider, because if you were to look at the Premier League there cannot be many that are averaging nearly 8.50 away from home on current form.

The problem with Ricky is that I don't think the Sheffield track suits him and I think he finds it very much a challenge, but away from home he is our top performer and those figures would suggest that he is one of the top performers away from home in the Premier League

And for that reason I am at a lost as to why Sheffield Team Management don't alternate the number 5 riding position with Richard Hall riding it for home matches and Ricky Wells away.

only problem i can see is that would require us to have a team manager who can tell the riders what is good for the club and not just for themselves.

Its time we stopped knocking Ricky and started to appreciate his importance to the team, particularly in away matches.

I think I've come up with the solution to the riding order. I'm convinced that our team managers do look at this forum and consistently do the opposite to anything that is suggested

Perhaps if we all stated that it was a bad idea to alternate Richard and Ricky at number 5 it would happen!

Our management team are not strong enough. When you see Rossitter and Middlo on the sky matches you get the feeling they are really passionate and riders will try harder for these guys. Then you listen to radio Sheffield and our management and it just doesn't give you any inspiration.Their trouble is they let certain riders tell them what to do.To get the best out of any team you have to have a good motivating and tactical aware manager and we haven't.

  • 3 weeks later...

I presume there was a reason he did not ride. However, the preview on Friday indicated he was riding, Saturdays report said he was not. No reason why given. Is he injured?, as I thought I heard his name mentioned for Thursday's match against Australia (was announced while bikes revving so could be wrong)
