Lions V Rebels 22.06.2013

Recommended Posts

I thought that the meeting was probably one of the best I've seen at BP. It had tension, incidents, close racing and plenty of passing ... If it wasn't for the cold wind it would have been a great night. Looking at the track, I think there was some additional dirt added, a reddish mix from Scunthorpe way I was told, and maybe it was that, combined with perhaps just the right amount of water, that gave us the entertainment. Maybe it's not just down to track shape after all? Great riding from both teams but I felt that our lads were just not on it at times, Bjerre and Nemo certainly not at their best. Maybe just an off night but a pity they had one together just when Somerset got their act together.

With regards to the other matter, I don't agree with public dressing downs and certainly not in the heat of the moment. It would be best if they all got together and aired their grievences behind closed doors, sort something out and kiss and make up. We've got a good team, we need stability and a team mentality. The riders need support from the manager and the promoter, and if they are going to ride under a cloud then we won't be getting the best out of them.

Also, I find it hard to believe that Mrs DH would be allowed to choose the riders for heat 15 (where did that little snippet of news come from?), surely that's the managers job?

And if we have no riders turn up that's it finished what a shame someone could not come with some money and buy it and run it correctly looks like it could be a Tesco car park and if DH does read these post come on and tell us what is going on as without us the fans your stuffed anyway

I have heard from a very good source he was offered £1 million for the stadium and its rights and David Helmsley turned it down because he didnt like the bloke who offered the money.

Interesting times at the home of the Leicester Lions.

Funnily enough I do see DH point. Being 12 points up and still losing isn’t good. And to be fair, if I was in his position, I think I wouldn’t be very happy either. But, it does show us one thing. The Lions heat leaders aren’t good enough I’m afraid.

Bjerre is to inconsistent , Nieminen isn’t a true No 1 and Karlsson is hit and miss. The loss of Roynon has buggered us up big style.

Top six I suspect and then when the big boys come calling…………Oh well.

Your team actually scored 46 points which would have been a winning score if the double points tr was discounted.

My own team has suffered the same fate, but has also benefited on other occasions via the double points tr.

Given Somerset are considered a top side and no club has a god given right to win every home match, the reaction by some in the Leicester camp does appear ott to a first home defeat this season.

Sorry to invade your thread but I am coming up to the Midlands in a few weeks time for my first visit to Beaumont Park. As an old Hunters fan from 1949 I am getting infirm and cannot stand for long. Do you have a seating area at BP or do I have to bring our own chairs.? I have been told the walk from the Car Park is rather long have you any tips?

The stand at BP has, i would think about 500 seats so you should be able to easily get a seat, has for the walk up to the stadium it can be a bit of a drag for someone not too good on their legs as it's abit uphill ( easier on the way back down). I would guess it's about 300 yards from the stadium car park up to the stadium, but make sure you arrive at least 45-50 mins before start time, because the stadium car park is generally full after that time & you would then have to park on the shopping centre car park which will mean a longer walk.

hope this helps , steve.

I'd say arrive an hour before the start if you want to get in the car park. We got there at 6.40pm on Saturday and it was already full. However, there were probably more there because it was a top of the table clash - even I went for the first time this season. It's a heck of a walk from the shopping centre unless you are young and sprightly - which I'm not.

If you have a disabled Badge there is another car park which is nearer the stadium accessed through the riders entrance ,

Going back to the Lions v Rebels match, did anyone else think it was one of the most entertaining matches ever at BP? it had Lots of passing, incidents, controversy, a home team that started like a steam train, A fantastic away team fightback, all the ingredients a speedway junky needs. ....... ??

Yes? / No?

nightshift has got it right for me, our heatleaders rely on making the gate and very rarely pass anybody. Karlsson if he doesnt make the gate, just follows them round, goes into the bends too narrow, shuts off and then slides across the bend when surelly it would make sense too increase the power entering the bend ensuring the bike to turn tighter and holding the line a little better. Bjerre cant gate for love or money and relies on making a sweep round the first bend always tries to pass round the outside but did pass on the inside on saturday (very rare) and is a trier. Niemenen is a o.k. gater but goes into the bends too narrow when there is no grip down low. Most away heat leaders attack the track alot better than we do and take a mid entrance into the bends full power where the grip is e.g. Screen, Cook, Morris, Doyle, Barker, Fisher, Worrall, Birks, Stead, Hall, Lawson, Harrison etc... maintaining a better line. I'm not trying to have a go at our riders but we have to attack the track better. I'm Leicester through and through and will always be down there to give them my support no matter what and am available if needed

For me, It was the best meeting at BP for me by some quite considerable margin. I could certainly put up with that week in week out.

The Rebels match was a great meeting that had everything. For the neutral supporter and those new to speedway it was even better and will keep them coming back for more. It has already been said that speeday and Somerset won that night.

It was indeed a great meeting and a pleasure to hear neutral supporters say how they hope these two teams are the ones that make the play off final because if so they are off to see both matches.

Just a shame Leicester lost but credit to some great riding from Somerset and never say die attitude - which seemed to ebb away from the Lions.
