Scunthorpe Scorpions V Sheffield Tigers (premier League) - Friday, June 21st (7.30pm)

DAVID & THOMAS RETURN FOR DERBY CLASHES

SKIPPER David Howe and Danish star Thomas Jørgensen both return to action for the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions for this week’s two Premier League clashes against local rivals, the Sheffield Tigers.

The Scorpions travel to Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium on Thursday, before entertaining the Tigers at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (7.30pm).

Howe crashed out during the Scorpions’ defeat in the Knockout Cup at Redcar last Thursday. It was first feared that he had broken his collarbone.

But it turned out to be a dislocation rather than a break, and after missing the return meeting against Redcar at the Eddie Wright Raceway last Friday, Howe returned to action for the second round of the World Longtrack Championship in Norway on Saturday.

Jørgensen broke his shoulder in three places in an accident in Denmark on May 15th. There were fears that the injury could have ruled him out of action for two or three months. However, that has not proved to be the case.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s great to have both David and Thomas back.

“When the medics at Redcar were looking at David, they suspected there was a break in his collarbone. It turned out to be a dislocated shoulder instead. That, in itself, can be quite nasty. However, David not only rode in the World Longtrack on Saturday, but he also scored five points against World Class opposition.

“It was already a big boost that David was going to be fit to return this week, but then I received further good news from Denmark”, Godfrey continued.

“When Thomas said he was having a practice skid in Denmark on Tuesday, my initial thoughts were that he might be back for the home meeting a week on Friday against Glasgow, which was still much sooner than we were thinking a couple of weeks ago.

“But he then contacted me to say he’d done about fifty laps, without any problems at all. He’d tried going in deep, turning the bike quickly, and nothing gave him any problems.

“Thomas is massively keen to come back, and he says the shoulder is now stronger than it was before the accident, so we’re putting him in against the Tigers.

“It’s a massive plus to have him back in the team. Rider replacement hasn’t been scoring the points that Thomas would have. It’s always preferable to have a seven man line-up rather than using R/R.”

Local derby clashes between Scunthorpe and Sheffield are always keenly fought contests, and this week’s two meetings promise to be no different.

Godfrey added: “We’ll see what the two meetings bring. Our main objective will be to win the home meeting on Friday.”

It looks like Jakes rain dance has failed...

Having missed out on speedway last night we going to venture over tonight, Hopefully we can keep this close as Scunthorpe are not riding to full potential so i see a opportunity to hopefully sneak a point..

If someone can update the weather later that would be appreciated as don't want a wasted 150 mile round trip

Cheers

It is fine outside at the moment & the forcast has changed from earlier in the week http://uk.weather.com/weather/hourByHour-DN16:4:UK so should be a good meeting(as long as not too wet from overnight & riders get filled in so it becomes follow the leader stuff).

Wtf was that all about... I've retained my re-admission ticket because I'm sure the Sheffield promoters will give a £5 minimum reduction to a Sheffield home meeting as a goodwill gesture to apologise to the supporters for that shambolic effort or lack of !! If we were manipulating averages I would expect a number of team changes !! Surely someone will confirm why the team managers put in heat 15 a very slow off the pace Richard hall and not Ricky Wells or again was it average manipulation .. Looking forward to hearing the promoters spin on this latest disaster !!

It was pretty awful but Wells apparently refused to do heat 15.

Race is a understatement , most of the riders throttled off from the start so was not even in the mix in the 1st bend.. Was a total and utter disgrace.. If its true about Wells surely he can be sacked for breach of contract.. I would currently retain, Stead Haines and koppe...
