Ipswich V Rye House (premier League) 20th June

Recommended Posts

Would tonight's meeting against Rye House be the lowest attendance ever at Foxhall Heath for a local derby.

I am sure if this was a local derby in the Elite League against Kings Lynn there would have been 4 times as many people there.

I must applaud the improvements Speedworth are making to the stadium but is it too little too late?

Hardly a genuine local derby, not that close and no history. When the fence was being repaired i decided to start counting the crowd, got about 2/3's of the way round, got bored, but was surprised when it was obvious there was at least a 1,000 in there. More fans are sitting in the new stand, and that makes the rest of the crowd look a bit sparse. Christ knows what the crowds will look like when the stadium improvements are complete, you'll need 3,000 in there to make it look like a poor crowd.

Crowds have dwindled in Speedway due to many things, crap stadia being one of them. The stadium owner appears to have money to burn, the improvements certainly appear to be over the top, but lets hope we'll get top meetings when it's finished. It'll certainly be the best Speedway/Stock car venue in the Country.

I've said this before we have no real rivalry in the PL. All our history is with EL clubs. I've noticed on this forum over the last few years that we haven't really fitted in.

I read other threads where supporters are really looking forward to certain fixtures because it's a chance to get one over their bitter rivals and the rivalry is quite obvious.

We don't have that in the PL.

Without getting in to the EL Vs PL entertainment debate, one thing I personally miss is racing against Lakeside, Eastbourne and Peterborough.

The fixture most missed by everybody is the Ipswich/Lynn derbies. Just typical that the season we move to the PL, Lynn go the other way and we STILL miss out on the Derby!

Those Good Friday battles over the years live long in the memory and are badly missed in my opinion.

Where do I start with this?... About to claw it back to 4 points down, when Grajczonek's bike went bang. It was all downhill from there. If you put your hand over the riders scores from 4-7 in the programme and showed it to someone who didn't know the score they'd think it was an away win, or at worst a point, but 7 points from 13 rides from the bottom 3 ain't gonna win you diddly squat.

Clearly Nelson has problems with his set up. He was giving it the full beans, but going backwards. Going on Facebook looking for a mechanic hours before a meeting and ending up spannering for yourself is pretty poor. Even Anders Mellgren was looking around for a mechanic for most of the day. He can be pleased with his nights efforts, apart from the last place off the graveyard that is gate 4 in heat 12.

Grajczonek did as good a job as you could want from a guest away from home. I heard that Lewis Bridger was approached, but was asking for more than Silver was willing to pay. Wouldn't have made much difference with 3 of the riders misfiring. Boy do we miss Jason Garrity, he can't come back quickly enough!

You can get away with carrying a reserve for so long, but two? Impossible. Simon Lambert is clearly not the answer. He looked like a dead man walking in the pits before the meeting, the face said it all. I'm all for being loyal to riders, but for fu*ks sake, enough is enough!

Yet again another carrot crunching moron cheering when an away rider falls, this time I avoided a confrontation. Couldn't be arsed.

Next two meetings are Newcastle and Somerset at home... Gawd 'elp us!

Was at the pits in warm up, seemed like a problem with nelsons cut out, think donkey as machine examiner tested it and wasn't working properly, then when they tried restarting the bike it wouldn't start. For a guest Josh deserves full marks for his work on nelsons bike as does jason bunyan who at the parade time were both giving it a right go to get it going while kasper warmed nelsons second bike. Have to say i was surprised at the team effort given the way the season is going. For me two mistakes in using Ben Morley to replace Lambert, the kid is getting better at kent by the week but leave him there to build confidence, when he was clearly not working Lambert was rushed bach far too soon, his confidence is now shot too. Given that we have the only Dane that can't start at reserve too we will struggle.

Sadly we need to replace simon, we need garrity back and olly as well. With a fully fit side we would have pushed Ipswich all the way. No way was it as bad as the scoreline suggests. For me Ipswich are a mid table team unless they do something about the no2 spot, was sad to see richie still struggling

Shame that Boxall isn't part of Rye as he looks like he is on the right road and with a Pl quality bike he would easily be 7+ average but that won't happen this year. Mear was a massive mistake and worryingly we keep making them

Well done to Barker by the way to get the track record

Don't say about our number 2 position, he has just signed for the rest of the season. I think one of the reasons we may finish mid table also is we seem to have a few too many riders that don't seem to be able to pass, or put themselves in a place on the track that could make a pass possible. They seem very happy to just follow the same line as the rider in front of them.

Well at least as things stand we know who the pride of Anglia is. When Lynn dropped down to the Premier League they won many many pots, and since Ipswich dropped down you won what ? You are right about the Good friday double header, but wee have a closer derby now to fill that void.

We've won our fair share of "pots" over the years. Can't complain. Edited by CardinalSin

Speaking to the Rye number 2 last night, it was pretty obvious he appeared far more suited to the Ipswich track than Rye, and seemed more than able to pass on another perfectly prepared track.

Yes baldyman apart from Ben and occasionally Cam the other 5 seem totally incapable of passing riders and just follow their line with no real effort to pass. Ellis came to foxhall with a great reputation for passing and keeping up with all the riders but while in fact he passes no rider and often tails off. I cannot help feeling as he is a Lakeside asset cl would be better off to sign another rider with talent in his place as an asset who's not fixed up with anyone. I did say at the time Hawkins was signed for the rest of the season it was not a wise move at all but many on here as usual condemned that and went the other way, the fools.

On a brighter note, Ben at long last won heat one and the relief on his face was there for all to see and he seemed to be back where he was last season in form and looked very sharp. Cam was sharp also and its great to have at least one reserve to rely on. Lanham although scoring a paid 10 points, never looked very sharp at all and had a lot of luck with some of his points. Risager and Tungate were about level in their performances, ok while gating but rubbish when not.

Terrific track record by Ben in heat one but the meeting on a whole was pretty uninspiring and mundane. What has happened to gate 4 at foxhall ??? No rider seems to be able to gate from there at all since the track was altered and only Bunyan coming from 3rd to pass our 2 riders in heat 4 won a race from it. Seems to have become a graveyard since cl unwisely changed a track that had served up brilliant racing for over 30 years.

The look of the stadium is certainly changing and must be costing a bomb to do, just hope promises of keeping speedway is true and not yet again another fob off !!!

Spedeworth have had speedway as its tenants for many years. Why should they change their minds after all these seasons? The rent from speedway goes into their coffers and then helps subsidise all the big small oval car racing events they stage. My hunch is that the upgrading is all part of a move by them to bid in a season or so for the classic F1 Stock Car World Championship. We'll see?

Never seen stocks at Ipswich, but I'll hazard a guess the crowds are much larger that for speedway. I've attended Arena Essex for bangers/stocks in the past and the crowds are huge.

Well the merchant of gloom and doom reports on another match and can only praise two of the team. Two riders can't win a match on their own, it was a team effort.

So Adam gets six paid seven and you still slag him off. Are you sure you are an Ipswich SUPPORTER?

If ever proof were needed that Aljacks postings are a vendetta against the promotion rather than a genuine opinion his summary of last night is it.

He found the Brum/Poole sky match thrilling and everything that is right in Speedway yet describes last night as dull and mundane.

Ben Cam Bunny Lykke Ritchie all produced good/great passes and there was pkenty of good tight races along with a track record (no huge ruts at Foxhall).

I thought the racing was pretty decent. Most of the heats were closely contested. Bunyans pass of both home riders in heat 4 was my personal highlight. I really fail to see how some people could moan about the level of entertainment served up last night.

Some will have a damn good go Shadders! Or should I say ONE will.

I know all forums have their fair share of trolls, but this one on here takes the biscuit.
