Main Man
MDL : Saturday June 15th STOKE SPITFIRES 16 Coventry CITY GEARBOXES Mercia-Vikings 20 The COVENTRY GEARBOXES Vikings finally got their first MDL victory of the 2013 campaign with a 20-16 away win over Stoke to follow –up the previous week’s K O Cup away win over Long Eaton. They took full advantage of the home side losing Shaun Tedham with a cracked frame after his first ride with the on form 16 year old whiz kid James Shanes again on top form. The diminutive racer from Dorset belies his lack of experience with some breathtaking rides dropping one point to home man Lee Payne , who had scored 8 points in the preceding National League Trophy encounter, but also gaining revenge over the Stoke reserve by winning heat 6 in fine style. He also set a time just 0.1 outside Lee Smart’s heat 15 win in the main match when winning heat 3 when John Markham joined him for an all important 5-1 to put the Vikings ahead 11-7. Markham put his side in a strong position when winning the all important penultimate heat ensuring the Vikings went in to the final race two points up at 16-14. He dropped one point with paid eight in his three rides with his best performance to date in Vikings colours. Shanes and Ryan Terry-Daley then ensured victory with a 4-2. Terry-Daley was a little anxious in his second ride in heat 4 when breaking the tapes but fought through from the 15 metre handicap for a vital second place. Vikings debutant Lawrence Fielding , although not scoring, improved as the meeting progressed and will have gained from the experience. The Vikings next home clash is the second leg of the MDL K O Cup semi-Final at Brandon on Friday against Long Eaton holding a nine point lead from the away encounter. STOKE SPITFIRES 16 1. JamieE
James Shanes seem to be doing well. Looked a real talent when I saw him race after the Bees vs King's Lynn meeting, look forward to seeing him in action for the Storm
