SCOTLAND1314
What a fantastic effort and result from Edinburgh tonight. Â Theo solid scoring and close result it just makes his effort in heat 15, on Friday, all the more important. Â Derek solid and did well to pick himself off the deck in heat 14 to win the re-run. Â Great to see Claus putting in a good performance including a nice race win. Â Max .. where do you start? last to first in heat 2, solid in heat 8, smooth start to flag win in heat 12 and an intelligent pass in heat 14 to put the Monarchs in the lead (and most of his no scoring rides were from the graveyard gate 4) Â Then Cookie what can you say that hasn't been said before? 4 start to flag wins and a heat 13 that showed skill/bravery against a flying Richie Worrall. Â Thanks also to James Sarjeant for the effort it wasn't your night tonight but it will come. Â This team just keep on continuing to defy the odds. hules
Very similar to last week. A team arrived at Brough with an outstanding number 1, a lively reserve and other riders gating and winning on a slick and smooth track. What Ipswich so nearly did last week, Edinburgh did tonight against a Diamonds side which at the moment is carrying two or three out form riders.  Famed for our gating on our travels that’s the second week in a row where we’ve been consistently out gated. But that is not the only problem. Henry had a poor match tonight but to be fair that’s his first real poor one at home. Lindgren though is completely out of sorts. He is slow out of the starts and looks anything but smooth on the track. For the second week in a row he made a complete hash of heat 14. A month ago he would have won both of those races easily but I feared the worst tonight which shows how much his stock has fallen recently.  I would certainly make a change to the riding order and swap Henry and Tully around. The team just looks like it needs freshened up a bit at the moment, if anything some of the riders look a little jaded at the moment and one or two are perhaps riding too much.  Have to say Edinburgh deserved the win. Cook was if anything even more impressive than Barker last week. Certainly one of the best performances I’ve seen at Brough from a visiting rider. Richie should have beaten him in heat 13 but made a poor decision to ride tight off the last bend having ridden perfectly for 3 and half laps. To be fair though Cook never let him get away and was ready to pounce on any error.  So two winless home matches in a row and despite our continued excellent away form there are fairly obvious weaknesses in the team that need to be sorted although not every team is as strong and suited to Brough as Ipswich and Edinburgh are.  Last comment for me is on the track. I wonder if it is so smooth now that it if anything is too easy for visiting riders to ride. It doesn’t seem to hold any fears for anyone at the moment. Maybe if it was prepared with a little more grip we’d get more of a home advantage.     Everything you have said there equates to the Monarchs right down to the track, heat 15 on Friday gave us the opportunity to reverse the tie, well done the 6 Monarchs. Greg
Henry Kerr and lindgren all looked down on power and nowhere near the form they were in early doors.... Kerr threw points away tonight but he's still raw and will make mistakes, Richie has twice gifted the opposition number one a win by riding the inside line, but lindgren in heat 14 was shocking, fair enough he was trying to pass deek who gave his usual master class in making his bike so wide when in front.....but to leave the door open for Fricke like that, after he'd been dive bombing the 3rd and 4th bends all night was unreal... Still this monarchs side is very good and whoever beats them will win most things... Just feel after being 11 up on fri night and the events of tonight we've thrown it away pretty cheaply. Maybe we arnt as good as we thought we are and need a big kick up the jacksee. Good luck Edinburgh, if cook stays fit it's yours to lose. lucifer sam
Report in local rag.  http://www.scotsman....e-win-1-2969144  The actual hardcopy headline says "Cook is god on the Tyne"  Slightly over-the-top reporting  The Monarchs management could barely comprehend what they witnessed at the end of the match and, if Lord Lucan had galloped around the pits on Red Rum, nobody would have batted an eyelid.  Everybody played their part, but in Craig Cook Monarchs have a gold-plated insurance policy when it comes down to winning last-heat deciders. Finding fresh superlatives to describe the 26-year-old Cumbrian would tax a lexicographer after he scored a brilliant 15-point maximum and if he carries on in this manner, Cook is likely to have a sculpture of himself placed on a plinth at Armadale Stadium.   All the best Rob

Tsunami
Slightly over-the-top reporting  All the best Rob  Just slightly Rob.  Bad result last night, especially coming after the Ipswich draw, which should have been the wakeup call after the brilliant away wins in the last few weeks. Edinburgh deserved to win overall and had to thank Cook for 5 great and hard pressed wins, and great support from Fricke who had a knack of riding in to the side of opponents, which unfortunately gave him a close win in heat 2 pushing Kerr off line on the forth bend. Someone might remind him of that move sometime. He is a class act and his hugging the inside line fast was very similar to the way Rory Schlein used to, and still does, ride Brough.(shades of Stuey Swales at his best). The rest all chipped in and had good and bad rides but Sarjeant rode determined but was unlicky not to get points. Unfortunately, we lost due to a few points. Firstly throwing away an 11 point lead on Friday was the main reason but a dodgy ref decision in heat 14 was never going to be the reason we only won by 1 point. We still had the chance at Brough but, with Fricke pushing Kerr of line in heat two, Christian a bit AWOL, Lindgren not at the races, and Steve showin only improvement in one ride. the rest of the team couldn't get the draw or win that we needed, Even Richie riding great in all his rides slipped up tactically in heat 13, when, knowing the fasted line around the last bend was the outside, for some reason cut back scrubbing speed off, and then had to watch Cook continue on the faster outside for his 4th win. One could see that Richie was distraught at losing it as the win was his if he had kept the faster line that everyone was choosing. I think he out thought himself, and after the race he uncharacteristically turned straight back and into the pits, such was his disappointment. It hurt him after his efforts, but I guess that won't happen again next week against Cook guesting for Proctor and Plymouth. The real villain IME, was Lindgren, who had a pachy night, was in second place in heat 14 and should have known that a 2-4 was still a draw with a possibly 3-3 likely in heat 15, and for some unknown reason, opened the door to Fricke by going into the midtrack on the last corner. All the non riders in the stands knew that Fricke would try the inside and all Lindgren had to do was sit on the whiteline. He really should have known, as for 3 3/4 laps Luddi rode the outside line, especially the second bend, to build up speed and it only seemed a matter of time that Fricke, coming around the whiteline, would get him eventually. He did, but by Luddi opening the door after Luddi had got the whiteline. Fricke didn't even have to push him. This must wakey up time surely, Steve so low at the minute, Kerr just one of those nights with bike probs, although i would not have went with Steve in heat 14, and I would have put Kerr in who was highly likely to gate and block, and we might still have been in the next round as a result of it.  So it's out of the PL KOC in an unfortunate manner, and back to 5 PL meetings in a row with 4 of them winable. But only if the poor performances of this, and last week, are erased, and we at least get back to the recent performances against the likes of Berwick A, Ipswich A to stand a chance of continuing our challenge for the PL.   .
