Parsloes 1928 nearly
The weather? How could there have been so many conflicting forecasts? The BBC one that was up at one stage on here did forecast sun from 4pm onwards. Â Well I doubt there are many who study weather forecasts from a range of locations as much as us Speedway fans! I can confirm that in my experience over recent years and this week, the forecasts are virtualy never worth the 'paper they're printed on' - well they're actually on the internet so not on paper at all, but you get my drift!! Â Planning to go to Cov, I 'checked' on Wednesday and if you believed that, you'd have to had concluded, not a chance of the meeting going ahead. Said rain all day and all evening. Â But in truth, the '5 day forecasts' are ALWAYS utter nonsense - no forecast for three days hence EVER stays the same come that day. So it proved and I felt confident on the day to go. And it was inded fine. But even then - as has been pointed out - the forecast on Friday said showers expected early afternoon... When I got to Brandon was told: no, there'd been NO rain at all and indeed some last minute track watering was as a result needed.. Â There is one poster on this Forum (21CH...) who always leaps to the Met Office's defence, so I expect to hear from him; but in truth, five day forecasts are worthless and even on the day expect that a high percentage of the time the 'forecasters' (sic) to get it wrong!! gammy73
Does the NL work the same as other leagues in averages are worked out each month and team positions change according to that? If so then even tho Steve will still b at number 1 he wont have an 11+ average so that wud then give us more points to play with?

Yesterday was the CTA Fire Kings' and therefore Steve's second NL match. Won't get to four until July 6th. Then not sure when they change; but if it's not 'til the end of that month, we're looking at Steve not getting a realistic average until August!! NeilWatson
17.5 NL Established MA’s is issued when a Rider completes 4 NL Meetings (irrespective of whether home or away) to be effective 7 days after the last qualifying Meeting. waco
Thanks Neil That now seems to be confirmed ,Do existing averages have any effect on that,,, ie rolling for example ??
Halifaxtiger
I only saw one person standing on the 3rd bend so don't tell me that was you wearing shorts whilst I had multi layers on and was still cold. Â Yes, it was. Â I think it was colder at Stoke tonight............ Edited June 15, 2013 by Halifaxtiger
Parsloes 1928 nearly
It's actually (rain-offs excluded..) 8th July when Steve would get to 4 NL matches and so 7 days after that is the 15th. (when Stoke visit) - not sure if the new, lower average would take effect in that match though. Perhaps the match after? Â What I'm not clear on though, is how average changes affect others in a team. So for example at Kent we have a rider given a crazily high average (11.38) and so this affects the remaining points available for the lower order riders. At, say, IoW they have a rider of 3.00 who's scoring massively: Adam Ellis. When Adam reaches 4 matches in the NL and his average is recalculated, this will be somewhere near the ten mark I'd guess. That would put the Islanders total way over the 40 mark but it DOESN'T mean they're forced to drop riders to get back to 40. Nor should it - as that would punish success and also discriminate against some riders because of the success of others. Â But then if that's the case, does it follow that Kent can or can we not stregthen based on a reduction in Boxall's CMA..? It is all pretty confusing... Main Man
Personally I thought it was a nightmare of a meeting and would have left long before the end had I not been doing the texting. I should say, though, that it was more a combination of circumstances that caused that and I don't think any one is particularly to blame. Â The track was terrible - very slick indeed with a large ridge on the third turn. That meant that with rare exceptions the racing was poor. Then there were persistent delays which led to the first 6heats taking 45minutes. Â I chose to stand on the third bend and got cold and covered in dust, and then they had an interval (which I really don't like). Â The match was a one sided hammering and Adam had a poor meeting by his recent standards. Â Given the very poor quality of met office forecasts (they had thunder and lightning at 4pm and it was actually sunny) it's difficult to complain about the track. Where I stand is down to me and the delays were caused by the riders, so it would be very wrong to try and pin any frustration on the promotion. Â think the early heat delays were caused by the referee really -- some were down to a bit of movement at tapes but he was holding them far too long

I don't think either that a race should be called back if a rider happens to make a good start as long as he isn't rolling before the tapes go up. Some riders just have quicker reactions and some don't......Chris Harris for example.

I saw a bit of it at Stoke last night and trust it isn't becoming a habit.

Whatever is said I think it is crazy and pretty unfair that Boxall starts on 11.38 and Ellis on 3.00.Rules are rules but still crazy and very unfair to Kent. waco
AJ is King,,,,,,Averages have always been a bit o a joke in this league and anomalies are thrown up every year..And it is to far into the season before they change.. With the trophy comp,,the stand alones change later than the other teams ..A lot of things need changing but with Mr Morrish in charge it wont,,,and i assume he still is ,,you, never hear, or see of him, unless theres trophys to be presented ,,then he turns up like the proverbial bad penny..It is these ridiculous averages that mean the Kent Kings could go through half the season before they win a match... TBF, had you got young Lambert you'd have not been complaining Boxalls average is pretty fair, wasn't that long ago he was an 8 point PL rider, 4 point EL rider and lloking like making it as a decent EL rider until he basically threw it all away. As for Ellis, there not a lot that can be done about a young rider who bursts on to the scene really, he's a freak and an anomaly. Thanx. By 'like for like' des that mean at season start's average or current average though..? always uses current averages. so if you go up to, for arguments sake 50, and your 3 point rider has become a 9 pointer, you can replace him with another 9 pointer.
