Bryn
I will never forget that tragic night at Waterden Road. It's hard to believe it was 34 years ago and as well as it costing Vic his life, we mustn't forget that Steve Weatherley sustained serious life-changing injuries in the same incident. A sad, sad day indeed and a reminder that all speedway riders risk their lives each and every time they go out to race to entertain us.

JC!
The accident happened right in front of me and lives with me to this day, you just knew it was a bad one. Obviously this was before the days of the internet etc, and I still think of reading in the next day's paper that Vic had succumbed to his injuries - what a sad, sad day. scarletrider summed it up in 3 words 'a lovely lad' who was immensely popular with the Hackney fans, and is remembered fondly and missed all these years on. RIP Vic
DukesGreg
I was 10 years old, but still an avid fan, and remember the silence for him at Halifax on the Saturday. Can't believe it was 34 years, RIP

moxey63
How time flies. Can remember hearing the news the following day, a Saturday, as I planned spending my first week's wages as a 16 year-old. I recall Vic had just been riding into form - think he scored double figures in the meeting of his death - and it really saddened me to hear of his passing. When a speedway rider dies, and I hate sounding sickly, it is like losing a family member or friend. like they are one of your fraternity. Even as a 50 year-old codger, hearing recent deaths - Lee Richardson, Matej Ferjan, has the same feeling on me as it did when Gary Peterson was my first experience of death in the sport in October 1975. stratton
Yes Gary Petersen was my first vivid memory of a death in sport, really horrible even though my uncle had told me about the passing of the popular Pole TEO ( rode for the Robins)at West Ham.I see Vic ride four or five times and he was progressing but the main memory of him is that everyone that has spoke about him all say what a nice man he was he never will be forgotten.
