crescent girl
It is my understanding that the foam fence is a lot more expensive than the air bag. There are six (I think) different designs of soft barriers, from three or four manufacturers, currently approved by the FIM. Needless to say, these will all be priced differently. With an increased market, there has to be an incentive for other manufacturers to create a design and submit it for approval by next year. Not least in the foam-fence market, as this is generally throught to be the best way ahead. Market forces being what they are, clubs may find increased competition among manufacturers will bring prices down.

barncooseboy
Because air/foam fences are items of safety equipment HMRC should classify them as being either VAT exempt or zero rated. In other words there should be no VAT to pay. The capital cost is a business expense and the cost should be written off against tax over 5 or so years, this does of course assume that there is any profit to write it off against.
Red Panda
A safety fence only works effectively if it is fitted properly.............you only have to look at the Ryan Fisher incident at Peterborough last year to see what the effects of an incorrectly fitted one are............... Two very valid points. Especially the VAT. Something the SCB, or BSPA, could and should investigate immediately.
Boobs
I can just see some promotions who already have fences getting excited, thinking of claiming back VAT they paid when they bought their fences!
Grand Central
I can just see some promotions who already have fences getting excited, thinking of claiming back VAT they paid when they bought their fences! Speedway promotions are all registered for VAT so they will have all set the input tax on an air fence against the output tax it collects on behalf of HMRC at the turnstiles. topaz325
What was the cost for the fence at Berwick, £35-£40k?
BigRackBandit
What was the cost for the fence at Berwick, £35-£40k? Brian Havelock claimed last night that it cost £46,500 , but I have heard so many other rumours on the cost too.
Pirate Nick
I don't know if anyone has already brought this up, but if all the tracks decide to go down the foam fence route has anyone asked the manufacturers whether or not they can actually supply them all by the start of next season? Good point. And as this is an edict originating at FIM level then the rest of the world will be looking for APDs as well.

The rest of the world already has them, i think i'm right in saying that GB is the last profesional leagues ( Premier & National )in the world not to have APD's mandatory now

lionking
Leicester have 2 rather large portly start marshall's that im sure Hemsley would be willing to hire out for a charge of course. Stick 1 on each bend their bellys out & they will cover the whole bend then shating you got an air fence ;-)

I did not realise that. Yes when you have a look around the world, as I have just done via google etc, at some of the god-forsaken places that have APDs (when so many British Premier League tracks still don't) then it is quite an eye-opener. Yeah, and for people in this country to say they hav'nt been given much notice to raise funds to pay for APD's does'nt really wash as it was inevitable, I believe Newcastle and Somerset have had a fence fund running most of this season so they could obviously see it coming

Viewers of the Newcastle 2013 thread in the winter will know what massive amount of work we carried out, both for this year but essentially for 2014 and the airfence. Replaciing over 40 old posts and replacing the fencing on all four bends was a herculean effort from the volunteers carried it out in Baltic conditions. Some days i even had to wear a vest.
