Premier League Fours - Peterborough 14/07/2013

Delighted to read that Bellego & Tungate have got away reasonably ok from their crash on sunday,it was shocking to see it and giving the care they were getting from the 1st aid team there looked to be extensive injuries.Horrible to see Tungate disappear under the fence, surely there must be a way of securing the air fence to the ground.

Obviously the length of meeting was no good to anybody, especially on a hot day like sunday was.Understandably care needed to be taking to the three injured riders, but those delays were made a all the worse with the others, tape malfunctions, arguements of tyres, and a referee who clearly was way out of her depth.

But Cook didn't make contact (I think) and he didn't lose control. It's not an excludable fence to pass someone. Cook left Bellego with room to race.

I'm glad that Babs Horley is a ref, rather than a few on here. Otherwise overtaking would be banned. :o;)

All the best

Rob

We will agree to disagree this time You seem to be in minority

On your first point I agree, from my view there was no contact between Bellego & Cook, just a racing accident.

On your second point, the less refereeing Horley does the better IMO.

£6.00 for fish & chips and £3.75 for a small glass of wine

We brought a couple of cool boxes full of beers, food and water to avoid the sky high prices :drink::P

I brought a tuna cucumber sandwich from Tesco and I put it in my sock.

Wouldn't expect anything else

I suspect some price raising went on. More fool the mugs who paid those prices. I was happy with the 5 bottles of beer I brought in

I thought you had started making your own cheese sandwiches.

Judging from his comments on the BSPA website today, Mr David Hoggart does not read the very many derogatory posts on this forum regarding last Sunday's fiasco at Peterborough. How he can claim that Peterborough is the natural home of the PL 4s is quite beyond me. The excessive car parking charge.... the failure of the starting gates, which were only erected about 10 minutes before tapes up, exacerbated by no spare being readily available after the standside one had been hammered to death......... the inadequate 'red lights' which probably caused at least 2 of the crashes.......the paucity of medical cover for a major event....... the confusion as to whether the medic was attending to Kyle Howarth or not....... the lengthy periods of silence from the commentators (especially regarding the 'tyres' issue and the delay in announcing the finals line-ups)...... the unsporting advantages of gates 1 & 2 (from which 22 of the 28 heats were won)....... the dust, laterally, despite Mr Hoggart's comments on the importance of track watering, etc etc. Why can't the PL 4s be awarded to one of the PL teams who haven't qualified for the finals thus keeping the much-needed profits within the appropriate league?

To be fair to Mr Hoggart, awarding the fours to Peterborough was something that many fans asked for and that is why he calls Peterborough the natural home of the fours.

Spinny's right. Part of the reason the meeting is held at Peterborough is because the fans wanted it there, and many have complained about the fact that meetings (such as PLRC) aren't held on neutral tracks. Damned if you, damned if you don't it seems to me.

I'd certainly agree about the car parking charge (if that was down to the BSPA) as doubling it for a big meeting simply isn't on. I'd also agree that there should have been a second paramedic for such an event, although that wouldn't have helped when Tungate & Bellego crashed.

I have some sympathy about the track. Yes, it could have been better but its acknowledged that stifling heat and moderate winds are a a nightmare for a track man. Efforts were made to keep the dust down, but constant watering affects the quality of the surface (it becomes like ice). On the whole and given the weather conditions, I have no complaints partly because there was some excellent racing.

I doubt if the red lights were changed from what are usually there.

The delays over the tyres and the starting gate were annoying, but I can't blame the announcer for not telling the audience that there was a squabble over the number of tyres allocated.

To be honest, if there had been no crashes and no two hour delay (which would have prevented to a degree by two paramedics) I think everyone would probably have been very happy with the day.

It must be handy getting the leftovers once you've finished your shelf-stacking duties :icon_smile_clown: .

The Red lights don't have to be changed, - there just needs to be a procedure in place to aid the track staff when it's a daytime meeting. Many moons ago, the then announcer at Mildenhall (Terry Rippo) used to call out over the PA: "The Red Lights Are On" to assist track staff who might not see the lights in the glare. A simple , but effective aid. A larger 'cap' for the light (like on traffic lights) and/or might be helpful too.

There's no reason why the announcer shouldn't be able to tell the crowd what's going on. No reason at all.

Lengthy periods of silence are inexcusable when there are so many riders, etc. available to interview - and probably a few notable visitors that would also be worth having a chat with.

did the riders listen to him?......... I know it alerted the track boys with their flags.
