pandorum
Well done the Poles. Still got to be favourites for the WTC. Russia were great at first but have work to do for the WTC. Jepsen Jensen actually rode quite well but was never going to get the Danes into the final. Very nice coverage but the commentary team was poor. Scott is great in a backstage role but is no Kelvin. And that other bloke was as dull as dishwater and shouted a lot as well but I bet the dullards that whine about Nige don't mention that. And is Jan Staechman simple. Why ask the 2nd team managers what gates they will take when they had the choice of either take the two left after the first ones had gone or just go home. Exciting meeting all the same. I have always like pairs racing.
iris123
Well it was a start.Maybe one that can be built on,although i have my doubts. Not enough good pairs imo.USA will have nothing much when Greg goes.Hasn't captured the polish fans imagination and that would probably only happen in the world if it gets official FIM recognition and that looks unlikely what with the politics. manchesterpaul
AGREE, shame about the final... also not sure why Scott and his fellow commentator kept referring to previous World Pairs results, which have no relevance to this meeting which is not an official FIM event and doesn't have World Champipnship status. Yes that did stand out like a sore thumb, it clearly wasn't 'the' World Pairs competition that was last held 20 years ago. And is Jan Staechman simple. Why ask the 2nd team managers what gates they will take when they had the choice of either take the two left after the first ones had gone or just go home. It beggared belief he did it a second time. Especially when he was clearly aware of the dumbness of it the first time around. Although it can't come close to one of the most unexplainable and bizarre moments in TV history when Charlie Webster got Hans Andersen to cover up his 'topless' chest in the pits. Lol he had to go and rummage for a T-Shirt and hold it up under his chin whilst trying to talk. OMG man nipples! raymondbudd
Very enjoyable meeting and nice to see international Speedway that wasn't SGP or WTC on TV. I hope that the promoters view it as a success and push on with their plans. Missed opportunity for UK riders to get some experience. manchesterpaul
What was that?? Uh oh surely not the passing of currency! Just watched recording glad I painted my garden shed not a good advert for speedway Lol. If you watch speedway at certain tracks that shed must be about to collapse under the weight of coat after coat. I got to disagree though the second half of the meeting had a good few moments. Again if it had been a true resurrected World Pairs Championship it would have been a more fiercely and closely fought event. Hopefully it created enough interest to put that on the agenda. Of course the crowd which in my opinion was a shocker in view of all the promotion and write-ups ahead of the meeting may cast a shadow on that. To be honest though nothing they said had any relevance, and it was delivered with zero passion. It shows how important a professional commentator is to any event. Surely Germany can come up with a more recent famous speedway rider to enhance their coverage? or are they going all out for the Grandmas and Grandpas market? Goodness me we so harsh on here with our barbs and we all so perfect too Edited June 8, 2013 by manchesterpaul

Haha I'd forgotten about that moment of speedway "tv gold" - it was pretty strange, I'm sure many female viewers were quite happy with Hans at the time! Tonight's meet/coverage it's fair to say wasn't classic - by the same token it wasn't terrible either. However the gate draw (semi & final) part of the coverage was a bit cringeworthy. Plenty of rough edges to be worked on for next year & onwards.....
nw42
Egon Müller said he was apologizing for the earlier clash!!! Then it was pointed out that Holder was involved in that........"Oh yes, everything happens so fast in this sport...."Too fast for Egon nowadays Always thought him a really interesting character when he was racing, did I imagine it or was he also a female impersonator? I wonder if any country where speedway is broadcast has any universally popular commentary personel, I know it's impossible to please absolutely everyone but our lot seem to create so much displeasure whether it be the shoutys or tonights pair. Scott Nicholls received high praise for his part in the Cardiff show, just shows how diverse the roles are, he did ok tonight but he couldn't be expected to carry the other fella, don't know his name but he seems like someone who knew nothing about speedway until about 6mths ago, could be wrong but that's how he came across to me. Maybe we all see Dave Lanning through rose tinted glasses and he wasn't that good himself, I liked him though.
Ghostwalker
Swedish commentator was Peter Dahlbom and I think he did an ok job. A little confused in the beginning but thats understandable with riders switching gates/not following what the on-screen graphics say. Some Swedish viewers complained that he didn't recognized the rider's kevlars. The meeting was ok although the Swedes were awful.
A ORLOV
If Hans doesn't let Michael down then I expect the Danes to win it, Jepsen Jensen is a track master around Torun... I can see him going through the card unbeaten. Michael at 2 takes the weaker gates I assume, Works out well as Michael doesn't need to make the gates to win at Torun while Hans need the gates. Michael's a class act around Torun Michael will prove tonight why he is the real world champion, If he was in the SGP Series.. He would be leading it and eventually have won it. He certainly proved that tonight He won his first race, and managed to get passed Watt in heat 19, but was not that outstanding in the rest of the meeting. The part of the meeting that was shown was not very exciting until after heat 15, then it perked up a bit.

Yes i think he was.He is an interesting character up to a point.Looking on Facebook and i have seen nothing but criticism for both Egon and the other guy.Not an easy job of course.Egon is a world champion and does have a fairly large ego.Does it go with the title? Not sure on that, but of course to get where he did takes a lot of self confidence and he is loved by the media. He can get onto talk shows and does a lot of intro/promo jobs at motorbike shows.Guess of the other choices Gerd Riss has a reputation of having zero personality and Robert Barth seems to rub people up the wrong way
pugwash
Eurosport now showing what crap coverage they offer. Commentators in a studio, no sound or atmosphere from the track, missed heats, missed starts. PANTS.
iris123
In its defence,it was primetime coverage throughout Europe on a free to air channel, not some subscription thing. That must be a plus.Potential audience i would have thought would be millions and zillions
HenryW
Just watched recording glad I painted my garden shed not a good advert for speedway I thought some of the racing was actually really good, certainly better than what gets served up by the Elite League each week. However, that was completely nullified by the poor quality of the presentation. As has been said elsewhere, there was a complete lack of atmosphere and very little enthusiasm from the commentary team...and that's before we even consider the poor intro to the meeting, missed races at the start and then missing the start of a race (which actually looked like it was really good from the replay clips) after a commercial break. In its defence,it was primetime coverage throughout Europe on a free to air channel, not some subscription thing. That must be a plus.Potential audience i would have thought would be millions and zillions I'm not sure about the rest of Europe, but despite not being a "subscription channel" itself, Eurosport is only available in the UK bundled with other TV packages, i.e. Sky or Virgin, it's not available on freeview (digital terrestrial TV)
speedwaysliders
Thought Zagar the czech was great value to the event,he could have turned up and thought sod this ales dryml is going crap why bother, but to his credit he produced a couple of great passes, fair play to him........................................Ps is Matej available for team GB in the world team cup,?!!! MrMungo
I actually quite enjoyed it. It was a little bit different - best way I can think of to describe Zagar as a Czech! That part was a little ridiculous to say the least. Hampel as a spectator was equally so, but guess it worked out for the Poles in the end. There were a few segments that were very interesting, and the racing was good towards the end. The commentary pairing seemed a little "awkward" at times, but so was Chris Louis when he first started on SKY, now he's the best of the bunch. So am confident they will improve given time. Hopefully there'll be more meetings like this in the near future. Preferably starting @ heat 1!
