Teams Looking For New Riders! - From Where Exactly?

Recommended Posts

With so many teams apparently looking for new riders (Glasgow / Plymouth to name a couple), where are they going to come from and how much will they cost?

Most Premier sides this year were built on limited funds and are we going to see teams once again breaking the budget to bring in new assets.

It begs the question, are there enough premier league assets to go round and were the authorities right in questioning the work permits for some riders? Indeed were the WRONG riders given permits.

Even the magic formula of bringing in new Danes (Bach's / Bjerre's / Iversens etc) no longer guarantees instant results as most Danes now struggle to hit 6 point averages in the first couple of years and the Polish leagues are closed to the Premier teams.

Glasgow will find it especially hard as decent Scandinavian riders will already have Sunday contracts in Eastern Europe

I haven't got and answer but are most of these attempts going to be half hearted in a simple effort to appease the fans?

Nobody has signed Lubos Tomicek yet and it's June next week so there must be plenty of options out there.

Be interesting to see how teams fair with the new averages in June..without some early season trump cards

Dyer no longer at reserve for Redcar and worky or no one else not able to use him at reserve either.

Tabaka no longer at reserve for Edinburgh

Henry now above Tully so robbo can't now take a rider replacement ride

Leicester have a bit of a dilemma, because magnus karlsson has been generally superb for them since coming in to replace roynon. I wouldnt want to have that decision to make.

But there arent many obvious solutions for teams looking to strengthen up. interesting times ahead!

looking at the new averages we could keep karlsson and roynon but we would have to let go the out of form graversen and the in form alex edberg and bring another 3 pointer in at reserve that could be risky but wow what a top five.

kauko nieminen 8.08

lasse bjerre 7.18

adam roynon 7.07

kevin doolan 7.00

magnus karlsson 6.87

robert branford 3.00

an 3 pointer 3.00

total 42.20

Two 3 pointers never works , regardless of how strong the top five is . We went down that road in 2004 and finished 11th .

shame we let lewis blackbird and kerr go i think that would of worked.

I'm sure it would.

BUT - you didn't keep Lewis Kerr and now the 'Diamonds' are reaping the benefits.

He really does look like a Class Act.

One good lower end rider kicking his heels is Simon Nielsen. He is eager to get back into uk racing. He was very hard done by at Leicester he got the boot mainly due to Jan Graversens lack of scoring away from home. Plus Simon never wanted to mix it on the 1st corner if someone came across he would wind the throttle off

We won the league (through the play-offs...) with two three point reserves in 2007. Granted they were Woffinden & Roynon though!

Here are some of the riders that are available:

Taylor Poole

Dakota North (for a PL place)

Jesper B Monberg

Matt Tresarrieu

Claes Nerdermark

Magnus Karlsson/Adam Roynon

Ryan Fisher (for a PL place)

Josef Franc

Emiliano Sanchez

Some good riders that would score some good points for some of the teams looking to make a change.

I know, I know His name has been brought up about a thousand times and it probably won't be the llast time his name is mentioned.

Charles Wright?

Been scoring decent points in the NL and i know he isn't the best rider but he is good for 3 - 5 points a meeting which is what you want from a reserve.

Redcar will certainly be weakened, Wilkinson falls off at least once a meeting.

With Adam Roynon as the only British rider in this list, just shows how the future of British speedway has become so poor ( Tai Woffinden being the exception) by not giving the younger British lads a chance. Maybe some promoters might like to give them a chance to prove themselves instead of keep looking overseas for replacements.
