Sheffield Vs Leicester Pl 30/5

Recommended Posts

I am 90% sure that this one will be called off. I am in Leeds but the rain has poured down all night, is still raining heavy as of now (07:35am), cant see it being much better in Sheffield.

Don't build your part up Odsal boy, the announcer's comment (it wasn't a rant or a slating) was over this misguided post but as usual the accuracy level was about as close as you normally get so I certainly ignored it. As for limiting your activity - don't bother. Be forgotten next week - just hand your notice in at the MET office.

The solution is simple, go to the Speedway office next week and seek an answer.

If the coment by The centre green announcer was about your team coments. Ask for an appology.

If as I have said it was about the meeting being off then so be it.

I am sure this does not demand a full scale war.

In my oppinion the Announcer should have said what he was talking about a little clearer.

Excellent win for the lions :-) 3 away wins in a row the lions fans are certainly in dream land right now. I didn't agree with the moaning still from lions fans about not replacing Branford in heat 14.

We won ffs. How about backing young Robert who clearly struggles on the big tracks instead of constantly shouting for him to be replaced at the earliest chance.

It really bugs me that we win fans moan , we lose fans moan. I am resigned to the fact we must have the hardest to please fans in any sport.

Dispite what others thoughts are i think Glyn Taylor is doing a brilliant job as manager now he has the riders he wants in the side. Inspired choice of guest aswell in James Sargent. Would like to see him involved in our squad like we have tried with kerr & blackbird

I think that’s a very sensible idea.

It was a good win for Leicester I took my mate Pete along, who used to ride for Long Eaton, Sunderland and Cradley Heath back in the days when you could feed a family of seven for less than ten bob. Can you believe they used to race for £2 a point. Anyway, beside the point.

I did enjoy the meeting, although the track was a bit heavy, I thought both teams put in the effort and it was nice to see the Lions win at Sheffield at last.

Had time to sleep on the result and feel I can put down my views.

I said at the start of the season that the team was a gamble and that gamble has not paid off, we need to make changes to the team, but to make any decent changes we need to wait now till mid June when our riders on assessed riders gain proper averages.

Okay but what do the Team Management done to change things or try and get the best of the team?

Nothing..

At home we should be at least trying to win all meetings and cannot understand why they don't mix the riding orders up..

Anyone can see that Joe Haines is not suited riding at number 3

Joe is a rider who relies on his gating and is known to have a fragile confidence level, why stick him at 3 where his first race is either off gates 3 and 4 which at Sheffield is a bit of a graveyard gates. For me its killing his confidence.

Stick Joe at number 2 where he will be off either gates 1 or 2, where he has consistently beat some very good riders already this season, and a winning start will give him more confidence as the meeting goes along.

Richard Hall, is a match for Simon Stead around Sheffield, where have the Sheffield Management place him, at number 4 That means our 2nd best rider in the team has his last programme ride in heat 14, by which time its too late to make any difference to the scoreline in a team that is struggling, either stick him at 5.

Ricky Wells is our top man away, but can be a bit indifferent at home, so why not for home matches give him the number 3 race jacket.

The reserves are what they are and we have to live with that.

If we replace anyone before mid June it would be basically cosmetic and I don't think that anything would change results wise, but come mid June we should have some serious amount of points to play with to make some drastic changes, where we will have a choice of with the possibility of either dropping one reserve and bringing in a rider of around 6.50 to 7.50, or dropping both reserves and bringing in a two riders with a combined average of around 11.

By that time, the Play offs will be out of reach, but still have the League cup to go at so all is not lost.

But the Team Management has to do something, for me a change in the riding order as a temporary fix, and then Mid June lets make some changes that could just turn the season around and have us making some serious challengers for some sliverware, even though at the moment it seems unlikely.

I agree with most of what you say, SK, but changing the team order right now is akin to shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. The Management know they have to change things and I am sure they will. They are going to have to wait until mid to late June to act unless they see the first move is to replace Joe Haines, who, lovely lad that he is, is really struggling at the moment and will do whether he rides at 2,3,4,or 5. A reserve can get away with popping out of the gate once a meeting for a win and hoover up the odd third; your top second string can't. At the moment both Facu and Joe are doing that. For me though it's a case of drop a reserve (or both) and bring in what will effectively be a fourth heat leader with the points we will have. That will drop Facu to reserve and with Joe as the second second string you can put him at 2 and see how he fairs.

I know Neil was going on in his notes about how much it would cost to bring in Andre (or I suppose someone similar), but the cost of not bringing in someone of his calibre to keep the fans that we have could be far more than the lay out needed to secure a new rider. Either way a lot of thinking to be done in the next couple of weeks befoire definitive action is taken. Expect to lose to Berwick and then see the changes. Depressing times but I hope they act appropriately to rescue what is left of the season. It can be done as we have a strong foundation to build on in the three heat leaders.

True, Graversen and Branford were up against Hall, who neither was going to beat, and Koppe, who other than his first heat had looked hopeless. It's worth pointing out that the tactics that work generally don't get noticed in the same way. I expected Sergeant to be replace in heat 8 even though in his first race he looked as good as either reserve had. Glyn kept him in and he won the race and looked the part as well. With that confidence he was then able to deliver in his last race as well. My opinion is If he'd been replaced in heat 8 there would be every chance he'd have not had the confidence to do what he did in his last race. It was great to see how proud James, and all his pit crew for that matter, looked with his efforts. I was made up for them. That was down to Glyn and we ended with 5 points instead of maybe 2 or 3. So these decisions are all swings and roundabouts. Personally i'd have put Edberg in heat 14 though

Just read the match report on the website and it states that the meeting was pulsating. Well, if half a dozen passes in 15 heats is pulsating then I am watching the wrong sport.

Full credit to the Lions on a much deserved win and thanks to Olly Allen for 100% effort. If only the 'real' Sheffield team men had followed his example we might have got something out of it.

I don't want to harp on about Ricky Wells - but - yes, he might be good on away tracks but we are spending £60 per month each of hard earned wages to watch him at home and he completely infuriates me. I don't care what he does away to be honest but I want to pay my money to watch someone give 100% effort and I don't think we are getting that.

As for the rest, well, Richard does work hard, Joe hasn't got a clue if he misses the gate, Facu is great at following back wheels but rarely looks like making a pass (and punching the air when conceding a 4-2 against James Sarjeant and Robert Branford isn't going to change my mind), Jake is not ready for this level and Damien isn't going to be good enough.

There are loads of grumbles about the team and loyalty to rides is all well and good, but it's time the fans were shown some loyalty. When we were crap in early 90s, we had good racing, now we are crap and the racing pretty much matches the results.

That match was as good as the Berwick vs Sheffield. Last 2 meetings I have seen this month are by far the worst I have ever seen.

Halifax Tiger turn up in his lucky shorts.I suppose depending on your age and gender that could be classed as pulsating.

Not sure who they are lucky for, mate.

Just had a count up and in 18 matches this season (not counting challenges) I have seen the home team take full points on only 4 occasions and 6 have been away wins :o .

Perhaps HalifaxJonah would be better................

can anyone shed any light on what actually happened, looking at the updates site it seemed to occur after the Koppe win in heat 2?

And doesn't that sum up the situation. Nothing to do with half-baked opinions on team strengths & everything to do with spouting cobblers about weather that other gormless halfwits think is relevant & then don't turn out, reducing the crowd further. Does it matter what the weather is like in Leeds? If Leeds had flooded, would Sheffield had to have called the meeting off in sympathy? Half this forum if taken up by halfwits commenting on or seeking halfwiited comments about the weather. Want to know about the weather? The BBC amongst many others, in conjunction with the Met Office have invested heavily in forecasting - which doesn't include halfwits looking out of windows. But hey, it's okay, you weren't going to the meeting anyway.

They can get it horribly wrong though, who can forget these comments from Michael Fish.

And looked what happened.

You mean when the weatherman said "there's not going to be a hurricane… and there wasn't.

And yet the BBC and many others still seem to rely on a system that doesn't involve an arse looking out of a window and pounding irrelevant drivel into a keyboard. Strange that.

Think Backless has summed it up perfectly. The management are entitled to be annoyed with such unhelpful comments.

Thing is those sort of comments are anything but unusual, and how long would it take for a member of the promotion (or a member of their staff) who is actually at the track to come on here and state what the actual position was ? Bryn Williams does it virtually every week at Lakeside.

People are concerned about paying to travel to matches that might be rained off and have every reason to be. Having said that, I am amazed that so many people took notice of someone in Leeds (30 miles away) when they could look at either the Sheffield or BSPA websites.

Whatever the case - and I agree the management have a right to be annoyed - that doesn't justify publicly abusing a paying customer.

If we are having a 'Richard of the Week' as was suggested, I'll await a mistake by the announcer or the team management and see if they get nominated. Somehow I doubt it.

One last point: As someone who studies weather forecasts intently to avoid rain offs, I'd be very wary of accepting Met Office opinions as accurate. In my experience, much better to use XC Weather or Netweather.
