DutchGrasstrack
For some reason I can't find my current Dutch Speedway news topic, probably because of the lack of updates. BUT the speedway season finally kicks of on saturday in Blijham with a International meeting. The club contracted a good lineup for Dutch standards so hopefully a good meeting is in sight. Because of the date clash with Cardiff I will not be there, but I will try to get some info from the meeting (results etc..). Lineup: Jannick de Jong (NL) Mark Stiekema (NL) Randy Oldenziel (NL) Maurin Vochteloo (NL) Henry van der Steen (NL) Pascal Swart (NL) Henk Koonstra (NL) Thomas Sörensen (DK) Jörg Tebbe (GER) Keijo Bunning (GER) André Mochner (GER) Marcin Sekula (POL) Remigiusz Perzynski (POL) Stanisław Burza (POL) Marcin Rempala (POL) Tomasz Rempala (POL) Stanislav Melnickuk (UKR) Practice starts at 15:00 and the first heat should be around 18:00. Maybe some of you noticed the announcement of a Dutch speedway league earlier this year, but at the moment nothing official has been announced. There will be a few 'league' meetings this year, but I do not know how this will be set up. Meanwhile in Lelystad they still run their clubmeetings, for those who are interested: results can be found here (first two rounds).
manchesterpaul
Which site are you talking about is it the very good indeed Baansportfansite? I've just had a glance and it's been updated as recent as yesterday with a press release about the international meeting and also forum entries. In case it's not the site you use the address is http://www.baansportfansite.nl/home If it is the one you must have caught it when they were having downtime on the server or doing maintenance work on it? It does seem odd that Biijham are staging an international meeting on the day of the biggest GP of the year. Then again, apart from your good self, i don't reckon there are too many Dutch people travelling to Cardiff or have the opportunity to watch it live on tv

DutchGrasstrack
The all new Dutch Speedway League is going to start in less then two weeks. It took a while to get it all sorted but there is finally a start to this project which will hopefully save the speedway in The Netherlands. The normal Dutch Open championship doesn't work anymore and therefore is decided to run only 1 race which will end up with a new Dutch speedway champion. For this year there are four teams confirmed: Veenoord Rams, Groningen Lions, Blijham Eagels and the Helzoldstars. Lineup for round 1 in Veenoord on the 3rd of August has been confirmed and is as follows: Veenoord Rams 1. Henry van der Steen 2. Pascal Swart 3. Maurin Vochteloo 4. Mark Beishuizen Groningen Lions 1. Mark Stiekema 2. Raymon Woortman 3. Erik Eijbergen 4. Andy ter Schuur Helzoldstars 1. Jannick de Jong 2. Henk Koonstra 3. Sjoerd Rozenberg 4. Anne Spaan Blijham Eagels 1. Dirk Fabriek 2. Lars Zandvliet 3. Nick Lourens 4. Niels Remmelts More info (in Dutch) can be found here: http://www.baansportfansite.nl/nieuws/248/de-start-van-de-dutch-speedway-league-in-veenoord.html

Then the teams used to include not only Dutch riders but English and Australian riders. My favourites of the Dutch riders were Henk Steman, Jan Bosman, Gerrit Kops and Nico van Gorcum. Two of the teams raced at the major football stadiums in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Edited July 24, 2013 by Guest

Does four teams = four different tracks? I didn't think the Netherlands had sixteen riders! Are they out and out speedway riders or grass track riders dabbling in speedway? I was talking about the 2013 Dutch speedway topic I created a while ago (in this forum) Belated answer to your question, i've only just noticed it. You were making posts in April of this year (last one the 16th) in a topic titled 'Dutch Speedway News 2012' and the thread is still 'live'. Then again you may be referring to another thread you set up? http://www.speedway-...+speedway +2012 But i'm sure we're all happy and grateful to have this 2013 one up and running now. manchesterpaul
Investigating a little further it appears - hopefully temporarily? - that the International section of the forum has been limited to three pages? I do hope that this is not for good as this section is the most invaluable for a Wikipedia style fountain of knowledge provided by our overseas fans. When one thinks of the tons of posts in the main sections that are personal vendettas or silly arguing between the same people it's a travesty that this section should be pruned? Hopefully it is just a glitch and we'll be able to access again the fantastic information provided by members for us all.

Does four teams = four different tracks? I didn't think the Netherlands had sixteen riders! Are they out and out speedway riders or grass track riders dabbling in speedway? For this year they are just going to try this new system out. I think there will be another league meeting later this year in Blijham. Next year the meetings will be held in Lelystad, Blijham and Veenoord. The meeting was a great success! I think there were around 1000 spectators. The racing was realy good, never seen so much passing on Dutch tracks. Most of the rirders do grasstrack and just a bit of speedway during the year. Photo's from the race can be found here: http://www.baansportfansite.nl/nieuws/250/speedway-weer-terug-op-de-kaart-in-nederland.html Result here: http://live.baansportfansite.nl/event/12/speedway-veenoord.html There was also some spectalair racing in the 125cc kids class, the final (great race !!) can be seen here:

As a Brit the only downside is that, on the evidence of that racing, in not too many years time it looks like the Netherland's youngsters will be pushing us into fourth place in the World Cup qualifiers Congratulations on everyone working hard to keep Dutch speedway alive. Pretty sure there used to be many more than three. 'Dutch Grasstrack' couldn't find his 2013 thread as he hadn't posted in it for a while, which is how i noticed the three page thing when searching. Also other threads of note are no longer there. Like i say the contributors to this section provide great information so i am aware of threads missing. DutchGrasstrack
For what it's worth: the planned second race for the Dutch Speedway League in Blijham has sadly been called off because there weren't enough riders. Which was not true: the best riders weren't available and therefore the club decided not to race. BUT the league race in Veenoord a few weeks ago was a very positive 'new start' for Dutch speedway and I'm sure we'll see more of it in 2014. Speedway in The Netherlands continues today with an International 4 country race at Lelystad speedway. Teams will feature riders from The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Poland. Live updates will be available here: http://live.baanspor...n-lelystad.html The race day starts with three support classes, they will have there races at 12:00. The team event will start at 15:00 (local time). Edited September 15, 2013 by DutchGrasstrack
Guest
I have always had a soft spot for Dutch speedway. "My heroes" of 40 years or more ago were Jan Bosman, Henk Stemen, Gerrit Kops, Henny Kroeze, Cor van Corcum, Nico van Corcum and Hans van der Sluis. DutchGrasstrack
Henny Kroeze was riding today in the 'oldies' support class on a very old bike. I'll get some pics up later
DutchGrasstrack
Report (in Dutch) and photo's can be found here: http://www.baansportfansite.nl/nieuws/267/vier-landen-speedway-in-lelystad.html Sadly the crowd was realy bad, but this is and will be a problem at Lelystad speedway. There is not much interest in that area of NL. Next Dutch meeting: 28 september - the traditional Golden Helmet meeting in Veenoord! More info to follow.
