msc1874
Just from reading about what Barry Hearn has done for snooker, I was thinking do you think a figurehead such as him could do anything if they were at the forefront of British speedway. Or on a much lesser scale to F1 a bernie Ecclestone type character. I don't know if this type of person could help drive the sport forward and maybe maximise commercial revenue. Would it work? I don't know but I believe it could.
Daniel Smith
Yep, but the BSPA members won't allow it. It's as simple as that

But if clubs continue to lose cash you could one day get break away set up. Not beyond realms of possibility
Guest
Yeah. I guess so. But if clubs continue to lose cash you could one day get break away set up. Not beyond realms of possibility I am of the opinion that within 10 years the team racing format for speedway will vanish and it will all be ndividual meetings. As a consequence, promoters would not be committed to staging meetings every week - probably once a month between say mid-May to mid-September in the hopes of better with fields of elite international riders will develop a wider supporter base. If that comes about, then someone akin to a Barry Hearn of Bernie Ecclestone might be interested in speedway. In 1929, team racing saved speedway. In 2019 it could well be the reverse with individual GP-style events. Edited May 26, 2013 by Guest
Arson fire
He certainly would IMO... Dragged snooker and Darts from the doldrums and taken them to a different level, both commercially and entertainment wise..... Unfortunately speedway is a closed shop and dog eat dog at times so would never work.

Trees
Well if the renown IMG can't get their product any tabloid coverage then I dunno how a Barry Hearn type person will do it!!! Having said that if someone could market the riders, give them nicknames, hype them up, play certain tunes, get them into character and do the same with the fans, how great it was to hear the fans at Berwick getting behind their team, singing, hyping the meeting up, making atmosphere . . Lynn is a morgue compared to that, we're like. mice unless there is a decent race and there ain't many of those in a meeting eh!
PHILIPRISING
BRIGGO spoke to his mate Eccelstone several years ago. Answer was simple: only way to run it commercially would be to have all the teams and stadiums under one ownership. Total control with the riders effectively allocated to tracks. I believe Barry Hearn did take a look but wasn't keen on what he saw. But he would probably take the view as Bernie. Dictatorships work. foamfence
Speedway is simply a circus act, the majority of the public will never take it seriously when you have guests and tactical rides. Besides that, It's totally boring 99% of the time.

Closed shop what do you think 'Arson ? does that include getting in the GPseries? What has 'getting into the GP series' got to do with this thread? In case you noticed, there were qualifying meetings taking place last week, so no, the GP is not a closed shop.
pandorum
The bloke who empties Barry Hearn's dustbin could be good for speedway compared to the coven of imbiciles that are in charge in this country.

I think you need medical help as you seem to be suffering from angry man syndrome. As said by Philip Rising, it would need someone to take total control of the sport and run it in a dictatorship type of way. very difficult to achieve but there must be someone in marketing who has some beneficial ideas that are realistic. SCB
When Hearne has got involved in team sport what has he achieved? I don't see Leyton Orient being held up as some sort of example in the World of football. Let him stick to his niche, pub games.
JC!
No way Hearn would get involved, he absolutely hates motor sports from what I have heard. I cant see him increasing his workload these days anyhow, more likely to hand more off to Eddie I would guess. Edited May 26, 2013 by JC!
