Best decision for everyone.

Can't argue and it shows James realises himself things just aren't working for him. Nobody knows better than the lad himself he was a top contended in the PL and tearing up trees in the EL.

Shame for the boy

Glasgow announce James Wright has asked to leave club and will be taking a break from speedway.... (via Glasgow Twitter account)

With the club waiting for new averages on the assessed riders what are their options now? Maybe go for a rider on a 28 day contract? Try before you sign

Do we have a 28 day facility for with holding services? That would give r/r until the 2 away matches are completed for new averages.

Cant see why not . James is , in reality , with-holding his services . R/R for the away meetings at Plymouth and Leicester , and the home meeting with Workington , next weekend would seem our only option . After that the new averages will kick in , then we'll see where we are , who's available and who's affordable .

Doesn't look like Magnus is going to Glasgow if you read their latest press release on the Glasgow website, they having been contacting everyone and no one can commit to a Sunday track?

As mentioned on another thread Nedermark, Sanchez, Tressarrieu, Poole, North,Stichauer, etc just a few names off the top of my head that should be available for a Sunday track. Maybe not head leaders but sign two of these and you have a stronger team.

Therein lies part of the problem for the new owners of being a Sunday track. They will be acutely aware that the lack of rider availability on a Sunday is a major threat and tried during the close season to change to a Friday night which was refused. The sooner we can do that the better and have a wider choice of riders to choose from. As it stands we are likely to have to pay through the nose to get anyone half decent, and the new owners have said they won't break the bank for riders. We'll just have to wait and see. With r/r for Wright only Grieves above gets an extra ride, the rest are a bit of a lottery.

How many more people would come on a Friday? I know a lot of people who wont. Maybe the promotion should ask the questions:-

(1) Which day/night would you prefer. Sunday or Friday?

(2) If the race day was changed would you still attend?

Bridger has been riding for Rybnik in Liga 2 in Poland this season. ;)

If you were to change to a weekday, then what would be the cost to install floodlightlng that would also meet safety standards ?

Given that Friday is already the established race night for Scotland's major team, to run in direct competition could result in both venues losing some support to the other.

Perhaps Wednesdays, which used to be the Tigers race day in 1964, or Thursdays, which has been used at Ashfield when summer daylight permits, are other alternatives worth considering.

Ashfield FC must abide by the following rule:

“The club must have the sole use of the ground or “shared” use approved by the SJFA and be in a position to establish security of tenure for the ground and to play matches as and whenever required.

The playing season officially commences each year on the third Saturday in July, and terminates on the third Saturday in June the following year, a substantial overlap with the speedway season. Weeknight games are usually scheduled from the start of the season until second week in September, then re-commence around the second week of the following April. The only day of the week on which teams are not obliged to play is Sunday.

There is no season-long fixture list issued for the football, and matches can be arranged at very short notice, particularly towards the end of the season. While I don't doubt that the fixtures secretary would make every effort to avoid the possibility, if Ashfield were awarded a fixture that clashed with a scheduled Tigers match, the football would have to take precedence.

For that reason alone, regular Wednesday night racing at Ashfield would seem highly unlikely and while football arranged for Thursdays/Fridays is relatively rare, scheduled speedway matches could still fall prey to the same scenario.

Racing on Sunday os maybe not ideal, but don't forget you did put together a successful team couple of years ago and Sunday racing has not caused Newcastle too many problems over the past couple of years.

Quite correct. Sticking with Brits and young Danes, not involved in Poland, we have not had a great problem with signing riders. The Brits of course, can hold down a full 5 day job whilst riding on a Sunday, and the Danes, when they get better, and contemplating Poland, are usually getting snapped up by EL teams then. The spin off, and not really the case with Scottish teams, is we get a reasonable number of Northern teams fans, if they treat the day as a day out for speedway.

Hard to believe, but Sunday has been Glasgow's regular race day for the best part of 20 years now.To be honest I fail to see how moving it is going to make a great deal of difference to anything, whether it be a winning team or a larger crowd. Installing floodlights in order to run night meetings would be a massive gamble and one which could cost the club dearly as speedway fans are creatures of habit.................anyway MJFC likes to get the peltin' simmet on of an evening these days :P
