philfromcov
I thought Brandon's capacity was exactly that...? Even though wikipedia estimates at around 5000 I heard there were around 15000 in for the GP there and some of the British Finals in their golden years 12 500 for the last safety audit apparently a football pitch will not fit into the centre so if they did buy it its goodbye brandon . Even though wikipedia estimates at around 5000 I heard there were around 15000 in for the GP there and some of the British Finals in their golden years Restricted to 12,000 i believe but the planning permission would now consider access to the stadium which obviously wasnt a problem years ago. Edit: it might have been reduced to 8,000 a few years ago? Edited July 9, 2013 by woz01
Sir Jasper
Well, this has got a lot further than I originally thought it would. Lets just say that people who are scoffing at the idea of Coventry City moving there due to planning restrictions may get a rather nasty shock. If there is time for a united voice to protest the sale then its now.

Even though wikipedia estimates at around 5000 I heard there were around 15000 in for the GP there and some of the British Finals in their golden years Thats true but most of the fans were standing and not seated or segregated Most fans are not like some of the animals who call themselves football supporters

Woz01
Who said it? Its on the Coventry speedway fans facebook page. As i said nothing official but he is usually spot on. Didnt the commercial manager (?) of the stadium say something similar when the stadium first went on the market?
Sir Jasper
Its been said today that speedway will be safe at Brandon for ten years at least but obviously nothing official as of yet. Well as we have seen the Football club have agreed a lease for 3 years plus 2 additional seasons. If the owners are to be Sisu then 10 years is too long.... Imagine a scenario, There is currently a Speedway Stadium that has an attendance figure of circa 8500. The football club however are currently saying the capacity would be the high teens. Initial reports of the Sky Blues new stadium had an attendance figure of around 10,000, fans at the forums shot this down quickly, Fisher then said such a figure was a load of rubbish hence the high teens capacity. However after a couple of years playing in Northampton would see the crowd base diminish, whats to say plans are then revealed to say "you know, we only actually need a stadium for 10,000 seats " Hey presto, all of a sudden you are replacing a stadium with another one of a similar size..... Woz01
Where did you read this? Coventry Speedway fans fb page. Its also been suggested that the front of the stadium is actually a listed building.
oldace
Coventry Speedway fans fb page. Its also been suggested that the front of the stadium is actually a listed building. A listed building in the way of a proposed development usually ends up with an unfortunate fire rendering it dangerous and having to be demolished anyway
Pirate Nick
Coventry Speedway fans fb page. Its also been suggested that the front of the stadium is actually a listed building. I wouldn't put too much hope into the listed aspect. In christchurch we had a building with a listed front. The builder demolished everything around it and left the front standing until it was declared unsafe and was pulled down (took about 2yrs i think). Presumably the builder was fined but the housing that is now going up will more than compensate. The best bet for the speedway is the lack of access to the site and rousing the locals to object to whatever is planned. Fingers crossed and there will be another 10yrs of rivalry between us

They want to backrupt the arena so they canget it on the cheap. I wouldn't put too much hope into the listed aspect. In christchurch we had a building with a listed front. I dont believe Sisu will want to buy land without being confident that they can build on it. Edited July 12, 2013 by woz01
BADGER69
The Ricoh is to good for the present Cov Football team Its a first rate stadium for a third rate team Also the Directors are being investigated going back three years. The idear of playing at Northampton is nothing more than BLACKMAIL. The Ricoh would be better off with out them Edited July 12, 2013 by badger1969
Woz01
Sisu have said in the Independant newspaper that they want the stadium to have commercial, retail and residential oppurtunities. Brandon looks even less likely if thats the case.
Sir Jasper
I drove past Prologis Park Ryton yesterday, some peopole on forums would have you believe the majority of the land has been built upon, however there is acres of open land...... A mile or so from the training ground as well.....

jimmy jimmy
I would imagine any new stadium would need to be near the motorway if they want a. Multi use facility. Also, Coventry council owns part of the Ricoh?? So granting planning permission for somewhere else seems weird. Can't see Rugby council too keen on a football stadium at Brandon, but you never know

Can't see Rugby council too keen on a football stadium at Brandon, but you never know I was informed by a Bees supporter at the Poole match last week that Sandhu wanted to build houses on Brandon & was refused permission by the Local Rugby Council . He however was going to relocate the Speedway at Ryton on the old car factory site as part of any sale . Is this the same site ? If it is it belongs to the Coventry council as the Ricoh as you write , it aint goin to happen .
