philfromcov
two stories have recently come together about this. My understanding from (oh god i sound like shovalr!) sources... was that CCFC was looking to use Brandon as a training ground facility, however after alot of pressure on the Football League by coventry supporters about actually abiding by there own rules, the football club were told that they need a training facility with a inside training area, subsequent i believe the youth squads have already returned to the the training facility on allard way, i expect the full team to follow shortly. I know the site they are looking at around warwick university, but perhaps the idea of some High speed trains and construction may put a stop to that site as well! Yep they are in talks to move back to the Alan Higgs Centre so they will not need an academy. Brandon seems less and less likely an option for Sisu now they are rumoured at looking at four sites. sancho
It seems to have gone very quiet about this. I heard a rumour from a pal of mine the other day who is a CCFC fan but has no interest in speedway that the stadium had been sold to someone already involved in speedway. Are we any nearer knowing who has or is buying Brandon

houdi
Quick update, went to a Sky Blue trust meeting last night which was chaired by John Fletcher, who is ex council leader of CCC. The trust have held various meetings with SISU/Otium, the Football League and Coventry Council. The Council have confirmed that Rugby Council have told them of an initial approach from SISU regarding developing Brandon. However CCC were told that Rugby Council have informed SISU that any planning application would be rejected on grounds of access. Some fans who are members of the supporters group met last week with Tim Fisher who is the CEO of CCFC, a person who amazingly is even more unpopular in Coventry than Matt Ford, and while he didn't say a great deal about a new stadium, admitted that Brandon was now a non runner. I was about to post the same, good news.
philfromcov
as an ex resident of binley woods and married to a civil engineer, i think i mentioned it would never happen because of access, thats must have been known by them 5 months ago but just kept the story going!

1 valve
Sisu mislead the paying public? Whatever next I have a perfect location for CCFC. Its just off the M6 and has lots of car parking and has a great football pitch already in situ - I think its called The Richo..perhaps one day, those involved will stop acting even more stupid than this post of mine and work something out like grown up adults in order to return CCFC back to the Richo! Umm suppose that might be the problem - adults acting like un educated kids running sport and councils to feed ego's and wallets...what was that saying? ah yes, Pride before a fall!
FranktonBee
Ricoh actually, but I get the drift They'll be back there before too long.
Woz01
The council and the club are actually talking now but club wants the freehold while the council want a rent deal. Even if the council were willing to sell I'd guess their valuations will be miles apart. At least speedway seems safe from the Sisu vultures.
dj350z
Have never understood why Coventry City Council have wanted to own a football stadium - not now anyway!
sancho
Have never understood why Coventry City Council have wanted to own a football stadium - not now anyway! Because they saw it as a money maker, But that was when CCFC were a premiership club. 2 relagations have put paid to that.
dj350z
Because they saw it as a money maker, But that was when CCFC were a premiership club. 2 relagations have put paid to that. Which is precisely why it is an unwise strategy for a council. Did they make any money out of it when they were in the Premiership?
Woz01
Which is precisely why it is an unwise strategy for a council. Did they make any money out of it when they were in the Premiership? The council only got involved when the club was a championship club and couldn't afford the 45,000 state of the art stadium they initially proposed. Anyway the Ricoh is much more than a football stadium with a indoor arena that can hold upto 10,000 people a casino and hotel also.
1 valve
Which is precisely why it is an unwise strategy for a council. Did they make any money out of it when they were in the Premiership? Although at first I found it hard to believe when I heard the figures mentioned - but stageringly, football revenue has never been anywhere near the highest form of income for the council from the Ricoh facility. Obviously CCFC keep the admission money but all other "hire rent and food supplies" for other activities represented 90% of income i.e. CCFC contributed circa 10% - with this in mind it is easy to see why the council would like to keep the facility equally why CCFC would lik to own the freehold. I dont think the powers that be within CCFC should entertain the concept of building their own (mini) version of the Ricoh given that there is no real suitable site for such a facility, more that they should return to The Ricoh and work from within at persueding the council to form a meaningful partnership - just think egos and childish spats will prevent that from happening...."I want it all, I want it all & I want it now!" as queen would sing!
