daveallan81
I came accross this site while meandering earlier http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk It features aerial pictures of Britain taken from 1919-1953 and besides seeing what your house looked like 70 years ago and searching for 'speedway', try 'stadium' and 'track' for a trip into the past. For example here's Lea Bridge 1933 http://www.britainfr...=stadium&ref=88
norbold
Thank you, that's brilliant. I have always wanted to see the Lea Bridge track. It was actually the nearest track to where I used to live - about equidistant with Hackney, but, of course, it had closed before I was born. Grachan
THis is apparently Belle Vue in 1927 - with what looks like a speedway track already at Hyde Road. So, either there was a speedway track at Belle Vue in 1927 or they year is wrong. http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw017762?search=speedway&ref=
Midland Red
There's also interesting shots of the stadia at Lythalls Lane, Coventry, and Blackbird Road, Leicester - well worth a look

I thought the stadium was built on top of the ground shown in the pic rather than incorporated into it. Here's the one that started me off on this site, both Glasgow Blantyre tracks - the greyhound stadium is tagged, Craighead park is practically touching it. http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/saw033079?search=blantyre&ref=
iris123
Wonderfully intertesting site.Just found out that the footpath i used to take to Plough Lane (Meads Path) was the route of the Surrey Iron Railway, which is a real piece of Industrial history. Some nice photos of New Merton Board Mills and the Bus garage which are parts of my family history as well.Nice!!
