The Cardiff ticket prices are a complete rip at the best of times, but to charge £45 for a 5YR old is criminal. Maybe this greed over ticket prices explains why GP attendances are well down at some venues this year.

I was always of the assumption that the GP's in Cardiff were almost always a sell out with very few if any tickets available on the day, these posts have really opened my eyes. Not so much to peoples greed, that's a given but to the lack of foresight shown when promoting a sport to let's face it an ever dwindling audience. Where are the fans of speedway going to come from and how are the kids going to get interested in the sport if you charge ridiculous prices for kids to come through the turnstiles to watch their idols perform? Mind you some promoters are only interested in making a quick buck rather than the long term 'health' of the sport and nothing proves that more than charging £45 for a child who lets face it may not even be old enough to attend school.

I'm trying to find out who I can write to about this, once I have then I'll post the details here so that anyone else who feels aggrieved can write in as well.

Cheers

Does your five year old get a discount in Sainsbrys on the food he eats?

I think this is an absolute DISGRACE. Are they trying to encourage People to go to Speedway, or, ARE THEY TRYING TO DRIVE THEM AWAY?!!!

Fancy limiting Concessions - Stupid B****RS!!! They would rather have NO money from the empty Seats than actually sell them to kids which, obviously, means if the Parent can't afford to pay full price for the children they lose Adult supporter(s) as well. Nobody is going to say to their children "sit in the car while daddy goes to the Speedway" are they? How daft is that?

Unfeeling s*ds.

I'm sorry but sometimes I despair of our Sport.

Does Sainsburys offer a discount on the food it sells which are eaten by five year olds?

What a bizzare comment, you have missed the point entirely. The Stadium had maybe 15,000 + seats EMPTY. The organisers advertised concessions for the elderly and the young, nowhere did it state that the concessions were capped. Had I known it would cost £45 for a 5 year old then it is unlikely that we would have travelled. I also made the point that ticket touts were openly selling tickets for less than the venue right outside the box office, had I know I was going to face the price situation once I reached the ticket desk then I may have bought from the touts. A lot of people left with their CHILDREN having been unable to afford several £45 tickets, in my case it was actually £26 more than the concession ticket would have been so I lived with it.

I think that's unfair. It's an established precedent in many (if not all) spectator sports, for concessions for kids, OAPs etc. The gentleman has every right to be angry about extortionate admission prices and the Sainburys analogy is inaccurate.

Does a 5 year old get charged less for an apple in Sainsburys than an adult?

No.

Therefore why would a seat in a stadium for a one off event cost any less if a 5 year old is sitting in it than an adult?

The point is Matt that they do give Concessions for Children already - so why put the block on at a certain number. It just doesn't make sense either logically or financially. They would rather have empty seats taking NO money than let the Adults in with their Kids and actually SELL those seats thus making money. BSI must be some business if THAT'S the best they can come up with.

But you have to compare the number of people who bought full prices tickets for their children (there were quite a few kids in the £90 section I was sitting in) compared to the number of people who either didn't bring their kids or even didn't come at all because there were only limited concession tickets available.

I would suggest the difference is negligible.

I still think 'some' money is better than 'NO' money being taken. That, of course, is MY logic - it obviously isn't BSI's.

It would also have increased the Gate - by a negligible amount I agree but still an increase.

I feel so sorry for those Parents who took their Kids to Cardiff expecting to pay the ADVERTISED Rates at the door and then being told 'No Concessions' those Children must have been VERY upset and disappointed - what an image to paint of our Sport. Not everybody can afford to pay Full Price for their Children - so they are virtually barred from the Stadium - NICE ONE BSI. To be honest I wish fervently that BSI had NEVER got involved with Speedway in the first place.

NOT THE POINT 15000 empty seats! If people willing to pay £90 couldn't get in because 3000 children had all the seats then that's a different matter perhaps. And anyway the children sitting in you section would have paid concession rates if not bought on the day or after the capped number of concessions had been sold.

Also who knew there were limited concession tickets available? Seems like it was only the promoter because the families that went home certainly didn't .

i've never had any problems getting concessions tickets for cardiff on the day of the meeting. i always buy the cheapest seats in the upper level where there is plenty of room. if this is a new policy from BSI to limit the amount of kids tickets, then they must be mad!. there is already a lack of youngsters attending domestic speedway in this country. i know let's charge them full price!. come on BSPA you know it makes sense!.

I don't think the BSPA have much say. They sold Speedway's soul to BSI years ago.

Somerset Rebels have Sky filming live tomorrow night Rebels/Monarchs, and they have reduced the entrance fee to £10 instead of £15 and all children go free plus you ge a £2 voucher off the next home match. I know this is about wanting to get a better crowd for Sky but its still a good deal. The important thing is they are NOT saying its only the first 20 children go free, it's all of them!

I think you're missing the point, ALL children accompanied by an adult should be admitted at a much reduced cost not just some.. These are austere times, some people are limited in what they can afford to pay for special events like these and speedway should be encouraging children through the gates, they are 'tomorrows' lifesblood of the sport and you have to get them early.

From what I can gather if you book well in advance, then you will avoid these problems and you'll be able to buy tickets at the rate you think is acceptable. Now I know this isn't always possible, but when you do book things up & pay last minute, whether it be speedway gp tickets, flights, football tickets, theatre tickets, you run the risk of paying more. Not saying its right, but it's business, they all do it.

Not trying to annoy anyone here, just giving you the view from a business perspective.
