British Final 13th May 2013

it's all in the eye of the beholder, also depends on what sort of track you are used to watching your speedway on. I've never been a fan of watching at Wolverhampton, probably due to the fact that I grew up watching BV @ Hyde Rd, so speedway at it's best for me is about back wheel in the dirt full throttle speed, that's what I like seeing, if the racing is close it's a bonus, I'd much rather see any rider wind it on around the boards. Others prefer the technical tracks, that's fair enough, so there's no winners or losers in this debate, just personal choice.

By contrast I was never a fan of Peterborough, regarding it as an 'open the throttle and cling on' circuit, but have grown to appreciate it more. As you say, to each their own.

Can appreciate what Sidney is saying re Kings Lynn but it's all in the eye of the beholder, also depends on what sort of track you are used to watching your speedway on. As already pointed out, the British Final the other night was contested by riders of such varying skills, there were always going to be a few riders who didn't have the skill or speed to challenge, I suppose those shortcomings would have been magnified @ KL, I would still rather see the likes of Tai, Bomber & Nicholls wind it on round a big track.

I do think Craig Cook benefitted from the venue, can't imagine he would have faired so well @ Saddlebow Rd, so I'm sure it will have helped his confidence to have reached the final, here's hoping he can push on from it.

I agree what a great post, i see 6 BLRC meeting,s they were great i loved the racing there also league meeting,s they were the best. But again i see really good riders that were not great at Hyde Rd looked ordinary so nothing against Wolves far from it.

I saw Gollob ride there with Ipswich back in the day - he came out of the 2nd corner in last place and yanked his cutout off - he did this 2 or 3 times in one night!

I was there, think he buckled his front wheel that night too trying to get the bike in the van but wouldn't fit, well it did after 3 or 4 slams of the doors!

Craig Cook has come on leaps and bounds and is becoming one of my favourite riders to watch he can gate he can mix it and one day he'll be british champ.

cant see him ever winning it to be fair. Tai could dominate and think others will improve past Cook

It's all about people having there time, Carter, Tatum, Wigg,Smith, Loram, Nicholls, Harris and now it's Tai's turn. The main worry is that for to long Nicholls really didn't have much of a rival, Harris pushed for a few years but now Tai has well and truly established himself this season as top dog and will it be another spell of domination or will a young gun rise to the challenge.

who will improve past Cook? the lads only going to get better and he's proved he can ride any track and wins races on any track im looking forward to his rise up the ladder and wild card next year would be a good start.

It doesn't matter what track you have the meeting it, Harris/Nicholls/King/Woffinden vs Schramm/Howarth/Haines/Birks is always going to be a bit crap.

As for Cook, he may be older but he's go so little experience that at his current rate of improvement (4 point Pl average after 12 months on a bike, 7 point average the year after, 9/4.5 the year after, 9/7 the year after and now about 10/7), he's heading for the GPs in 2 or 3 years time, ok he'll be 28 or 29 but he'lk only have the riding experience of a 21 year old.

The meeting results were about right!

Tai looking on good form again and very fast, even his motors look top notch, still impressing me loads this year.

Nicholls did well to pick himself up after a dodgy start.

Harris can still race.

Cook wow was impressed what a gater. (Please give Harris & Nicholls your gating gloves or some gating lessons)

The field did look lacking in quality in depth but that made it mildly entertaining and gave some newer guys experience.

but the maturity of a 28/29 year old who will understand that its not all about going out on the pull or on the p*ss and that the chance is there to be grabbed and not his right. That could make a very big difference

Are you referring to a certain DW? ;)

All the best

Rob

Funnily enough I wasn't being specific as imo there are (and have been) a few younger riders who have hit the 'big time' (however you define that) too soon to appreciate how lucky they are or without the guidance to help fulfil potential
