Leicester Vs Ipswich Pl 12/5/13 6pm

Recommended Posts

Blackbird scored paid 8 at Glasgow to go with 7 on his Scunthorpe debut. Looks like Leicester have dropped a clanger dropping him.

Leicester didn't drop him, if you read Glynn's programme notes last he said Lewis had concerns about his ability to score points on Leicester's track,& thought a move to a different track would benefit himself, so Lions reluctantly agreed to release him . Robert Branford was originally brought in to share the no.7 spot with Lewis not to replace him, but i suppose that decision was in Lewis's mind when he asked to leave.

A different class? I don't agree with that, yes he had the bit between his teeth in the last race and to be fair he was bound to get some stick for not getting off the track first time round as he was looking to get the race stopped and was quite rightly excluded as he was the master of his own downfall on both occasions. I reckon had Bjerre not come a cropper with the fence he would easily have taken Risager in Heat 15 too. Ipswich well deserved their point though and Lanham apart (who I don't think has ever gone well at BP) they look very solid.

Still think the track isn't right despite some good passes, it showed for me in Heat 14 when Doolan tried everything but couldn't get a line to pass the guy in front.

I also heard the abusive language and I said to someone at the time it was unecessary but I've no doubt had anybody complained it would have been brushed off anyway. The pantomime stuff with Barker is always fun and he showed his capability when he gets out in front in the end to throw it back at us and that's as it should be, even if it was irritating!

totally agree with all of that. Looking on facebook last week and someone mentioned they were delivering some new shale for the youth champs. Was there some new shale down last night? Again, it's a pity there aren't more riders willing to play up to the crowds in the way Barker does. There always seems to to be one who goes too far in the response though.

I think we did well to win it last night. Looking at Heeps & Barker against Karlsson and Nielsen before heat 11 and i thought a home defeat was definately on the cards with how Risager, Heeps & Barker looked. That looked a 1-5 banker if ever there was one. That heat saved us in the end i think, well that and the decision to leave Lanham in heat 13. Heeps in for a 5-1 in that heat would have still left it a draw.

A great point after yet another awful start which cost the Witches winning the meeting. There are so many falls from Witches riders and its costing us dear, I wonder why this is? A big pat on the back especially to Cam and Morten who were the point winners in the long run and to a lesser extent to Ben who came good in the end. But the form of Lanham is a big worry with just a paltry 2 from his favoured riding position and riding like an inspirational captain he is not. Rohan had an off night and seems to ride better while with his Aussie buddies at Poole and he has so much potential but still waiting for it to flourish for the Witches. Adam had one great race and just shows what he can do when getting the gate, in fact he is capable of beating any rider. Ritchie had an indifferent meeting but if he is on his way soon as he suggests, perhaps cl should be looking for a replacement rider very soon. To sum up, it was a case once again of what might have been as Leicester are no great shakes but a lack of an all-round effort from all 7 riders proved costly. At least like at foxhall, the few big mouth Leicester fans who were at Ipswich, were silenced and perhaps it would be best if they left their hooligan behaviour at the local football ground.

Barker has the arrogance that makes for entertainment, opposition will dislike him and his own fans will love him. Fist clenching to the fans on final lap of heat 15 stirs the emotions. Need more of that.

I had never been a big Ben Barker fan.......but have seen a different side to him. Last night he was value and last Monday in Heat 10 he was brilliant. That was probably the best race I have seen for a while.......and I was in Bydgoszcz!

Not much about the close racing on here and the genuine passes, just the sense of loss which people said they would forgo to get close racing another myth of the speedway fan. It's easy to say you will sacrifice winning for close racing when you are winning.I must say i'm not a massive Bjerre fan, last night he was impressive he did seem to have the bit between the teeth or maybe I have just got used to him. Always like to see Barker, Fisher etc they are showmen and the sport need more of them. Leicester weren't lucky in Ht 2 the Ipswich pair were riding beyond their ability for that heat and you have to cross the line to get the points. Obviously Heeps and Ellis did get used to the track later on. I'd say Sarjeants fall was checking the track out what an ideal heat to do it in.

Thoroughly enjoyed last night.!!!!

Blooming eck Tina. Surely we can want both excitement AND a decent team. Foremost i think we're speedway fans, we like being entertained by speedway racing. Not even been close to happening so far at BP but it did last night.

If there is a myth it's the one that you've tried to perpetrate that a successful promotion of Speedway needs only a winning team and a good craic with friends. A crowd of less than 1000 last night might tell a different story.

I also thoroughly enjoyed last night as well. First time in 2 1/2 years!

Obviously a miserable night weatherwise so only the real diehards attended but it was a real pity that more didn't attend last night to see a cracking nights racing, spoilt only by Ipswich's insistence on riding on a slick track. Nearly 20 genuine passes, not including passes when riders fell, but it was heartbreaking to see all the dirt being graded off the track after heat 2/3. The knockers of "no passing at BP" seem to have gone into hibernation. I accept that one good meeting doesn't make a season but despite the rain, the track needed watering with 45 mins to the start so it wasn't a wet track catching the Ipswich riders out.

The Leicester riders didn't seem to mind the dirt but I think it cost us a point grading as hard as it was done.

What we did see though was an entertaining meeting and fair play to the riders and referee for getting a move on after the very slow 1st 4 heats.

So why was it graded so much? Surely not because of the Ipswich riders? if the Leicester riders were happy with the track that's what 'home advantage' is all about.

Presumably the ref gave the order.

I'd heard that Ipswich were doing their utmost to get the track changed, they didn't like it at all. Barker was having a discussion, (about the track?) with someone (the ref?) on turn two just after his fall.

I thought that the riding did become a little precessional the more they graded the track but heat 9 was very good and Bjerre was looking, and finding, gaps in all of his races and so I think that if the track has dirt, and the riders look for it, the racing can be entertaining at BP. I hope that Glyn can keep improving on what was served last night. A good meeting with plenty going on.

Obviously the Leicester fans will complain about the track being graded so much, when the Witches came back at them to take a point that never looked possible on a dangerous track. Paramount to everything is the riders safety and it was not safe early on so therefore the extra grading, shame it had not been done before the meeting started, perhaps their track man heeds to take some hints off our Bob Ellis here at Ipswich

Only the supporters who were there can answer that with confidence but I'll have a stab even though I wasn't. With two falls and two exclusions in heat 2, and then a fall from a Leicester rider in a 2 rider heat against no opposition, I guess you could say the track was at best, tricky? Edited by Catch22

There was certainly plenty of dirt on it to start with (perhaps a tad too much for some), the middle heats were excellent until all the dirt ended up by the fence. With amount of moisture in it, the track was the best it has been this season IMO.

Dangerous it certainly was not. It had dirt on it and therefore needed riding with a different technique. Not the rubbish or bust style shown by Ipswich in the first two heats. The track man is fine but just looked a bit peed off seeing all his good work go to waste.

So, what did we learn from Sunday?

1, the track is not as crap as some would like us to believe.

2. What a massive blow loosing Adam Roynon was. If he was fit, I think away results would have been better and the conference of the whole team would be better. And we would still have the same 1-7 riders.

3. The crowd level was down due to the weather not anything else.

4. We have a greater toilet capacity in the gents. Lol.

5. After a very entertaining meeting with bags of overtaking, some still moan.

Come on you Lions fans, lets get behind the lads and turn this situation around.

A positive, intelligent post from a Leicester fan. Quick, have it stuffed, these are very rare.

The amount of falls in the opening heats suggests the work wasn't what you'd call "good"
